Update: They did call my wife to talk about the review I left, which I think *can* be a good step if changes are made, though I presume it is merely a platitude. What I would like to see, from pretty much any industry that deals with strangers, especially when it is child-focused, is some kind of trauma-informed training. Even better if the policy can be changed from being based on archaic separation, where parents aren't actively involved, to a collaborative effort, where the parents can be in the back; especially for an age where speech, understanding, and consent aren't possible. Every child is different and having inflexible, cover-all, policies aren't conducive for every age. TLDR; find somewhere else if you have a pre-verbal child or simply want a positive experience. For being a pediatric dentist, I have to wonder how much continuing education the doctors go through each year. From what I can tell, not enough. The AAPD recommends that children visit the dentist before their first birthday, the dentist's own website includes this. However, when we initially called, we were told it was not necessary and scheduled us a few months past the first birthday. I figured it had to be a full schedule and let it be. I wish I wouldn't have. The actual visit was a joke... On their website, they state that a "child's first visit to the dentist should be enjoyable". They certainly did not try to make it enjoyable. Having multiple strangers all crowded around you trying to get in your mouth would be unpleasant for an adult, let alone a 1 year old; I don't think it takes any kind of special training to figure that out. *note to the practice* this is how you INSTILL a fear of the dentist office, since you didn't seem to be aware. They also let us know that the next visit we would not be allowed to come back with our daughter. Getting that icky feeling in my stomach, I reached out to some other parents and all of them had the same 'hell no' answer. I understand that some parents might be a backseat dentist, so to speak, but having a simple conversation about expectations can sort a lot of those issues out. If you think I am going to let a baby or any other pre-verbal human out of my sight because it is convenient for you, you are are of your mind. That being said, if our child was able to communicate or if it were for something minor surgery or pulling teeth, OK, that makes sense. But for cleanings, not acceptable; the dentist we contacted today agreed that it was not the correct approach and that it is more of an archaic practice.

I have been taking my children and grandchildren in to see Dr. Farthing since 1988 and was very happy with the service. I had a heart attack in October 2021 and missed an appointment for me grandson. I called to reschedule and was told that they could not see him anymore because of missed appointments. I called an explained why this happened and they said they would see him in April. When i called to verify the time of his appointment i was told that he was removed from the office? The office manager is supposed to call me back to explain why they gave me an appointment for April making us wait 5 months for this appointment and then again refusing it?? This is very poor management of the office and wonder what Dr. Farthing would say about this? Hopefully they will see this response and know what is going on in their office!

Honestly I would give 0 stars if I could. We were patients for 7+ years. All three of my kids were seen here. I thought it was odd I couldn't go back but didn't know any difference. The front off is staff is very nice. But most of the back staff is direct and rude. At least the ones that spoke to me. I was told my daughter wouldn't lose her two front teeth, they wanted a bunch of money to pull them. Glad I went with my guy because she lost them. Each time they would take me in this consultation room, talk very fast, and want me to commit to spending all this money to get teeth and cavities fixed. I took my daughter in to have two crowns put on, they came out midway through and said they may have to extract "one" tooth. In the moment, I said okay. But really wished I could explain to her what was going on. She comes out crying and so upset. They pulled both. I couldn't believe it. So I left in a hurry as she was quite upset and hurting. I called to ask more about it and when they would grow back. I was told they could see the roots and she guessed a year. We go back for the next cleaning, I'm told she has even more issues and now my son needs cavities filled and my 3 year old as well. I was asking questions and trying to understand the best way to approach this and who was more pressing to take care of. The lady looked at me in front of my kids and said "ma'am I didn't give your daughter these cavities". I couldn't believe how rude she was. I was so upset, trying to remain calm in front of my kids and said I would just call for another appt. I went to check out, wasn't going to say anything but I decided too because the consultation lady was so rude. The front office lady couldn't believe what was said and said please don't go elsewhere yet. I'm going to go to talk the manager and the doctors. Someone will call you. It's been 2 or so months and I still have yet to hear from them. In the meantime, I found an amazing new place that truly cares!! I hope this feedback helps someone.

If you want your child traumatized of going to the dentist then by all means bring them here but if not- go elsewhere. I have switched my sons dentist to another one because this place is horrible. Farthing is rude. Office staff rude. My child would come out from being in the back in tears and face & arms all red and splotchy from crying and would tell me numerous times how mean they were to him. The first time taking him to this office they took him back and me and his dad were allowed in back with our son once, and that's when farthing rudely told us that it was a one time thing and she was very rough with our child. They would say one thing that needed to be done on his teeth then do another and ignore your concerns or questions and they would never do what was told to you the first time. They told me false information that a parent would need to know. Since switching to another dentist my son has had a way better experience with going to the dentist, he left in a great mood, no crying, no being scared. Also, if you switch dentists and ask for your child's records to be sent elsewhere they will send one blurry X-ray and that's it. No records.

If I could give a 0 star I would. They refused to see my child due to a missed appointment because of a medical reason. They are very rude and now dentist has to refer my child to somewhere else to get his teeth done.

My son is 10 and has been here for 7 years after a horrible experience elsewhere. As usual my son was taken care of respectfully! Even when he is in pain or has an issue, he is always excited to go. Because he knows he is in good hands. He talks about how well xyz did during his exam, cleaning etc. He is confident in his care there and so am I!

Carson is 8 years old now and has been going here for about 7 years this is the only dentist that he has had other than an orthodontist. I always feel the doctor Farthing and Papineau always do a very thorough exam. They work very well as a team along with their very kind and courteous staff. I highly recommend this office to any family needing Pediatric Dental Care. Update: he is now 11 and was there today, I wouldn't take him anywhere else

My 8 year old son had a horrible experience, traumatizing. This was our first time here. Parents are not allowed to go back with their child. That was unnerving but he went back. During consultation I was told that someone would hold his hands during the procedure, nothing else was mentioned to me or given to me to read regarding restraint. I had no clue, I actually thanked them for taking good care of him when he was done. When we left the office my son immediately started crying and asked me to never take him back. I found out that not only did his tooth extraction cause him intense pain but he was held down by his legs and waist as he tried to scream loudly for me so I could make them stop hurting him. He has had another baby tooth extracted at a different dentist where I was allowed to be with him and he did so well with no complaining of being in pain or moving away. This was a completely different experience for him, something I'm having to help him process through

I came in for a crown placement for my 4 yr old. She goes in and gets 2 teeth removed? Without a consultation? Without any information afterwards?

This is a nice office, and the dental staff is nice and direct about the plan of care. My only issue with the office is on their website they state they offer a payment plan, however, while checking out with my daughter I asked about a payment plan because her treatment plan is quite costly, and quite frankly I am not sure who has a couple of thousand dollars directly upfront. So when I asked if there was a payment plan I was immediately shot down. I offered to pay half of what her treatment balance would be. I was also given a post-it with ICD code numbers on it and told to call my medical insurance to see if the codes were covered by insurance. Because of this, I chose to go somewhere else so I can afford to take care of my child's dental needs. You shouldn't advertise you offer affordable payment plans when you do not.

The staff was friendly and professional. We were referred here from our dentist as we needed some who specialized in children's dentistry. My daughter's fears faded away as the staff made her feel super comfortable.

Went to get a cavity checked out. So professional and nice. Put my daughter at ease, and made an uncomfortable experience, anxiety free for my daughter. Would definitely recommend this office.

My son is well taken care of here. They do a great job. I wouldn't take him anywhere else. They don't allow parents to come back with the child which I thought was really weird at first. Now I think it's a great thing even though I'm not back there with him after his Treatment They explain everything that went on in great detail. I would recommend anyone with a child to go to this dentist. Thanks for treating my son so well!!!
