Are youconsidering dental implants? If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants are your best option to receiving the most natural-looking, long-term results. There are numerous benefits to choosing dental implants, like easier eating, speaking, and maintenance of your restored smile. Dental implants also offer protection for your remaining healthy teeth and jaw bone from degeneration/attrition while maintaining your natural facial aesthetics. No need to worry about any sinking or sagging of the face that occurs due to tooth loss.

To Determine if you are a good candidate for implants, Dr. Swigert will perform a thorough oral exam, review your health history, and may also obtain imaging that will allow a thorough diagnosis and treatment plan for a predictable result. You can rest assured knowing that the surgical team at River Rock Oral Surgery & Implant Center has received extensive training in dental implant placement. Give us a call today; we would be happy to discuss your treatment in detail and answer any questions you have about the procedure.

By the age of 18, the average adult has 32 teeth: 16 teeth on the top and 16 on the bottom. Each tooth in the mouth has a specific name and function. The teeth in the front of the mouth (incisors, canine, and bicuspid teeth) are ideal for grasping and biting food into smaller pieces. The back teeth (molar teeth) are used to grind food for swallowing.

With an oral examination and x-rays of the mouth, Dr. Swigert can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and determine if theyare present or may causefuture problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient.

As a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Ryan Swigert completed his four-year oral surgery residency followingdental school. This extra training enabled him to obtain his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certificate, which allows numerous specialty treatmentsincluding complex tooth extractions (wisdom teeth, full mouth tooth extractions, etc.), Dental Implant Therapy, Bone/Soft Tissue Grafting and Sculpting, Maxillofacial Trauma, Pathology and Reconstruction, Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction treatment, and IV Sedation (both conscious and deep). Dr. Swigert is excited to offer this level of specialized care to the people of the Tri-StateArea.

He graduated from Dental School in Richmond, Virginia, at Virginia Commonwealth University. Because of his high academic standing, he was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honors Society. Dr. Swigert completed his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Over a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies is reabsorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for placement of dental implants. In these situations, most patients are not candidates for placement of dental implants.

With bone grafting, we now have the opportunity to not only replace bone where it is missing, but also the ability to promote new bone growth in that location! This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance.

Autogenous bone grafts, also known as autografts, are made from your own bone, taken from somewhere else in the body. The bone is typically harvested from the chin, jaw, lower leg bone, hip, or the skull. Autogenous bone grafts are advantageous in that the graft material is live bone, meaning it contains living cellular elements that enhance bone growth.

However, one downside to the autograft is that it requires a second procedure to harvest bone from elsewhere in the body. Depending on your condition, a second procedure may not be in your best interest.

Allogenic bone, or allograft, is dead bone harvested from a cadaver, then processed using a freeze-dry method to extract the water via a vacuum. Unlike autogenous bone, allogenic bone cannot produce new bone on its own. Rather, it serves as a framework or scaffold over which bone from the surrounding bony walls can grow to fill the defect or void.

Xenogenic bone is derived from non-living bone of another species, usually a cow. The bone is processed at very high temperatures to avoid the potential for immune rejection and contamination. Like allogenic grafts, xenogenic grafts serve as a framework for bone from the surrounding area to grow and fill the void.

Both allogenic and xenogenic bone grafting are advantageous in that they do not require a second procedure to harvest your own bone, as with autografts. However, because these options lack autografts bone-forming properties, bone regeneration may take longer than with autografts, with a less predictable outcome.

This product is processed allograft bone, containing collagen, proteins, and growth factors that are extracted from the allograft bone. It is available in the form of powder, putty, chips, or as a gel that can be injected through a syringe.

Graft composites consist of other bone graft materials and growth factors to achieve the benefits of a variety of substances. Some combinations may include: collagen/ceramic composite, which closely resembles the composition of natural bone, DBM combined with bone marrow cells, which aid in the growth of new bone, or a collagen/ceramic/autograft composite.

Synthetic materials also have the advantage of not requiring a second procedure to harvest bone, reducing risk and pain. Each bone grafting option has its own risks and benefits. Dr. Swigert will determine which type of bone graft material is right for you.

Dr. Swigert and his staff are angels! My son took a baseball to his face and his tooth was hanging by a thread. Dr. Swigert and his assistant, Cori, who were not on call, came into their office at 11pm on a Saturday night and saved my son's tooth!! We are forever grateful!!

I've seen Dr. Swigert, DDS a few times over the years and he is "The Professional's Professnal" without a doubt. I was debating if I should go ahead with the Implants and after seeing him my mind was made up, but Covid-19 showed up and it put everthing on the back burner. It has been over a year since I last saw him for a ruined tooth thanks to lesser Dr. in the field of dentistry. I have tried multiple times to set a new appointment with no luck! I'll keep trying so I can go ahead with the implant work. I wouldn't go to anyone else.

Doctor Swigert's office was able to do a same day appt. for my son after we were left without reassurance from the first doctor that we saw. The doctor's bedside manner was fantastic and he answered all of our questions thoroughly. We are walking away from this visit reassured that our son will be okay and if we are even in need of an oral surgeon we will undoubtedly see Dr. Swigert. Thank you!

Dr. Swigert is the only oral surgeon within my travel radius. I had a palatal torus, and made an appointment at his Kingman office for a consultation. He was talkative, pleasant, eager, but never pushy, and had my best treatment options in focus right away. His staff was very efficient, and set me up for surgery at a later date. The operation was not a picnic, but his skill and help from his assistant made things bearable. I chose a local numbing only because I wanted to remember everything that went on. With his after care instructions, I am healing quite nicely. I went for a follow up at his office in Bullhead City, and felt very comfortable in his lovely waiting room. The cost of my surgery was very reasonable, and I will go back to him in the future.
