Dr. Kurt L. Hofner was born and raised in Michigan and is a native of Dearborn Heights, MI. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 1988 from The University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He has been practicing dentistry for over 30 years. With the help of Dr. Hofner, Sunrise Family Dental Care opened its doors in July 1998. As of 2015, Sunrise is solely owned and operated by Dr. Hofner. His practices are located in Canton, Howell, Redford and South Lyon, Michigan.
He currently resides in Northville with his wife, Michael Ann and his three daughters, Grace, Erica and Emily. He enjoys being involved in his daughters sporting events and is an avid follower of all University of Michigan and Detroit sports. He also enjoys spending his summers on the lake with his family. Dr. Hofner practices in theCanton officeon Mondays and Tuesdays and theSouth Lyon officeon Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Dr. Michael Kakareka (aka Dr. Mike) grew up in Warren, MI. He attended and graduated from Wayne State University in 2004 with a degree in Biological Sciences. Subsequently, he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Wayne State University (Detroit) in 2010. Dr. Mike has been actively practicing for 8-plus years and joined Sunrise Family Dental Cares team of professionals in 2013.
In his free time he likes to travel, fish and boat Up North. Additionally, he attends various concerts, music festivals and hometown sporting events; i.e. Detroit Lions and Detroit Red Wings games. You will see Dr. Mike at ourHowell officeon Mondays and Tuesdays and some select Fridays and Saturdays. Also you will see him ourRedford officeWednesdays and Thursdays.
Dr. Amir Assad graduated with Honors from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine in 2015. He is also a member of the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Society. He spent a year in Philadelphia before moving to Michigan in 2016. Dr. Assad brings a multitude of experience from his practice abroad and has been practicing for 19-plus years. Dr. Assad joined Sunrises team in the Fall of 2017.
He lives in West Bloomfield with his wife, Rana (who is also a Sunrise dentist) and their two children. He loves spending time with his family, watching soccer, playing games with his children and traveling. Dr. Assad can be seen in ourRedford officeon Monday and Tuesdays and some select Fridays and at ourHowell officeon Wednesday and Thursdays.
Dr. Avneet Dhaliwal (aka Dr. D) has been a member of the Sunrise family of providers since 2013. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Public Health from University of Toledo in 2008 and a Doctorate Degree in Dental Surgery (DDS) from The University of Detroit-Mercy in 2013.
Dr. D is passionate about health education and preventative healthcare. She is committed to delivering exceptional dental care that matches up with each individual patients needs. She firmly believes good oral healthcare amounts to more than operative treatment. She asserts that empowering individuals with information, allows them to be in control of their oral health. Should you require operative treatment, she will make every effort to insure the delivery of treatment is a pleasant and a positive experience. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. Dr. D can be seen at our South Lyon office on Mondays and Tuesdays and some select Fridays and Saturdays.
Dr. Roxanne Serkaian McLaughlin, a lifelong resident of Northville, MI, earned both her Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree at the University of Michigan, Go Blue! She joined Sunrise Family Dental Care of Canton in 1998, and over the years, has enjoyed building relationships with patients and families.
Outside of keeping smiles healthy, she also likes cooking, walking, and attending youth and high school sporting events. Her favorite times are spent with her husband Sean and their three children. Dr. McLaughlin can be seen throughout the week in ourCanton office.
Rana Altaweel, DMD (Dr. Rana) has been practicing dentistry since 2004. Initially, she completed her dental studies and graduation abroad before arriving in the United States. She eventually attended the University of Pennsylvanias School of Dental Medicine, where she graduated and received her additional dental degree in 2016. Dr. Rana has been a Michigander since 2008 and lives in West Bloomfield with her husband, Amir (who also is a dentist with Sunrise), and their two children.
Dr. Rana is driven to provide quality dentistry to her patients in a caring and compassionate manner. In her time away from Sunrise, Dr. Rana loves to spend time with her family, go shopping, bike with her children and spend time cooking and baking in her newly renovated kitchen!!! Dr. Rana can be seen at ourCanton officeon Wednesdays through Fridays and some select Saturdays.
