Dr. Matthews started practicing dentistry in Surprise in 2004 after he had finished a four year commitment as a dentist in the U.S. Navy. He assumed the office from Dr. Vahid Hojreh who had started the office in 1998. Dr. Matthews has a commitment of bringing modern dentistry to his patients while helping patients feel comfortable and at home. Since 2004 Dr. Matthews has continued to stay current with the advancements that are constantly improving the field of dentistry. Here are some of the technology and advancements he has introduced into the office: Digital x-rays, Paperless office, Implants, Lumineers, and Cerec Same Day Crowns.
I grew up in a small town in Northern California. I have always enjoyed the friendliness and feel of small towns. My aim has always been to have an office that has a small home town feel even though we live in a big city. My goal is never to sell to a patient dentistry they do not want. After examining a patient I will discuss with you your dental treatment options and the consequences of each treatment option and then let you choose.
Dr. Matthews graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2000. He then served as a general dentist in the United States Navy for 4 years, where he completed additional general dentistry training with an Advanced Education in General Dentistry certificate. During his time in the Navy, he was privileged to serve in Kuwait during the 2003 Iraqi War where he assisted in keeping the fighting troops healthy. In 2004 he was released from the Navy and began his general dental practice here in Surprise. For the last 14 years he has continued to develop his practice by meeting the everchanging needs of his patients. He is certified in Lumineers and Clear Correct and Cerec. And is continually improving his ability to treat his patients through multiple study groups and SPEAR Education.
Kory has over 35 years of experience in the dental field with the last 16 being as a hygienist. She has been at Dr. Matthews office since he started in 2004. She has demonstrated superior knowledge over the years in helping our patients maintain a healthy and happy mouth. She is always ready to answer any question you might have concerning the health of your gums.
Natalee has been working at our office for over 10 years. She has gone from Dr. Matthews assistant to the office manager. Through that process, she has learned almost everything there is to know about dental offices short of being the dentist or hygienist. If you have a question regarding treatment, charges or insurance, she will have the answer.

Excellent doctor and staff. Very caring and patient. The office is spotless and the instruments were in sterilization bags. I felt very comfortable there. The doctor was not pushing any cosmetic treatment on me. I did not tell them that I was a dental assistant. I can truly say this is an excellent office of which is hard to find these days. A+. You will not be disappointed.

Made an appointment for a dental implant. My regular dentist doesn't do them. Office staff was professional and courteous. Got shown to a chair after the 3D X Ray. Was shown the Proposed Treatment Plan before making the second appointment to start the process.

I recently needed some dental work done. Because I've had bad experiences in the past, I was apprehensive about getting a new dentist. I made an appointment with Dr Robert Matthews. Fantastic! His entire staff is fantastic. He took the time to explain everything before it was done. He honestly made me feel I was his only concern, which is very rare! Don't hesitate when you need as dentist. Dr Matthews is the best!

My husband and I are seasonal residents, decided to make a change from our old dentist at home to one that was highly recommended near Sun City West, Dr. Matthews. Comfortable and friendly office, and so thankful we were not pushed to have dental services ... our long time dentist was always finding something that needed to be done and spending a lot of money. For example, I was told last year needed a crown and the cost would be $1,600, I postponed because did not have the funds at that time. Dr. Matthews said nothing needed to be done right now, that was a relief. We have scheduled our 6 month follow up, and feel we have made the right decision with our change to Dr. Robert Matthews. The office was clean and loved sitting in the dental chair that overlooked the water, too bad the fountain was not on. My hygienist, Kory, was super friendly and chatty while cleaning my teeth. She said, "trying to help distract you as I do the work" - that is appreciated.

This is an exceptionally well run office. Dr Matthews is the best dentist I have ever had. He is professional and caring. He never tries to upsale you on anything. If it needs to be fixed he will tell you; if it doesn't he will tell you that also. His prices are very reasonable. He has a great staff. I highly recommend Dr Matthews.

Never before has my husband not minded going to the dentist. Everyone in Dr. Matthew's office is great, from receptionist to hygienist to the dentist himself. We highly recommend Dr. Matthews. He does excellent work and has great people skills too.

They have massage chairs in the waiting room to relax you before teeth cleaning. Cori was gentle with taking x-rays and cleaning. Dr Matthew's friendly and just as caring as everyone else. Highly recommend this office.

Doc is easy going, lets ME make the most important decisions about how *I* want to proceed. The girls (all of them, from desk to cleaning to assistance to billing) are experts in dealing out pain with a humongous smile!! (Just kidding. Kind of. ) It's been a wonderful experience over the past year, and will continue in the future!! I NEVER thought I'd recommend a dentist, till now. Thanks to all at Dr. Matthews office!!
