It is logical to say that in any occupation, trade or profession, there is no better teacher than experience itself. Forty-twoyears of dentistry has taught me a lot over the years. Those who have mentored me over the years have also blessed me with their own experiences. I feel fortunate to be able to pass this experience on to Dr. Chan who is open to new knowledge and treatment techniques. I am also fortunate to be able to pass on these years of knowledge to my son, Dominic, who is in the early stages of his own dental education

HOLISTIC or BIOLOGICAL are words commonly used in dentistry today. Please keep in mind that there are NO standards of care to reflect proper treatment protocols defining a HOLISTIC or BIOLOGICAL dentist. The treatment research of Dr. Weston Price, Chief of Research for the American Dental Association some ninety years ago as well as the continued research of Dr. Hal Huggins is not always understood by many dentists claiming to be a HOLISTIC dentist. This involves the understanding of proper dental restorative materials, root canal therapy, periodontal therapy, as well as the replacement of teeth using implants and other materials. Many claiming to be HOLISTIC are simply mercury free, which is an excellent start.

My wake-up call to mercury came as a dentist in the U.S. Air Force. As the Assistant Base Dental Surgeon at a Texas Air Force Base in the late 70s, my dental assistant spilled one drop of mercury on the floor. The proper procedure was to immediately notify the Base Environmental Team of the spill. They came over very quickly with HAZMAT outfits, personal oxygen supply, speaking to me through a microphone. When I observed all of this, I started to wonder why I was using this poison in patients mouths. This is where my journey began.

Under the care of a holistic minded medical practitioner, I do see overall health benefits of patients when known dental infections and toxins are removed using the proper protocols developed resulting from nearly 50 years of blood chemistry research. This of course starts with proper diagnosis of diseased teeth and dental infections. Bacteria isolated from dental infections as confirmed by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) DO harm to the body in other areas and has been associated with heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, respiratory disease as well as kidney, pancreatic, and blood cancer.

We make no medical claims or promises, yet we commonly observe many health improvements when treatment is performed with the proper protocols. This includes such responses as, my brain fog is gone, I have more energy, you gave me my wife back, my sinuses are clear. Mercury is a known neurological toxin, yet there are others. Many dental infections have anaerobic bacteria (live without oxygen) as a causative agent that emit toxins which may affect the body in some negative way. Yes, they are related in some way to other anaerobic bacteria such as botulism and tetanus.

This journey through the body teeth connection began over 40 years ago and continues through today. Many health care practitioners are realizing that the mouth is playing an important role in our health. Good luck in your quest for knowledge and maximum health.

Dr. Lauren Chan is a 2010 graduate of the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Dentistry. She graduated in the top 10 of her class and was elected into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Upon graduation, she joined the practice as an associate dentist.

Dr. Paul V. Gallo, DDS - General dentist in Joliet, IL

Dr. Chan was drawn to this practice not only because she could practice mercury and fluoride-free, but also because of her long history with Dr. Gallo. She has been a patient of his since the age of 9 and also was his chairside dental assistant prior to attending dental school. This provided her the first-hand experience to see the benefits of a holistic approach to dental care and how important it is for ones overall health.

Dr. Chan enjoys the opportunity to develop an honest and trusting relationship with her adult and pediatric patients. Her goal is to not only provide you with quality dental treatment, but to also educate you about its importance. She looks forward to meeting you and your family in the office.

It is well known that mercury will store 1st in the kidney, 2nd in the liver, 3rd in the neurological tissue, 4th in the GI tract, and then in the rest of the tissues. Symptoms related to mercury are vast; however, even the American Dental Association (ADA) admits to the following symptoms:

Unprofessional and ineffective treatment. I would advise a second opinion before consenting to any procedures with dr. gallo.

A true professional! My experience with Dr Gallo was great from consultation to post op checkup. I had 3 decaying teeth extracted and the cavities from all 4 wisdom teeth re opened and cleaned out along with a few fillings. ZERO PAIN. I don't understand how but all I feel is relief from the teeth that had been ailing me for months. Dr Gallo truly understands dentistry and the human body. Dr has clearly put in the time to develop a seamless program that makes sure you are set up for optimum healing every step of the way, from the lymphatic massage to the post op IV Vit. C, patient care is at an unsurpassable level. I could go on and on but you just need to see for yourself. Anyone in need of dental revision.... Dr Gallo is the only option.

Tried to schedule and evaluation at this office, without being muted or put on hold, the lady who answered my call continued a conversation with someone in the background about who owes who money. It was not professional and not comfortable to hear her yell that 5 and 10 dollars are owed in my ear. When finally done with that conversation and speaking with me again, I did receive a "sorry about that," and then was asked, "what do you need to be seen for honey?" Again, I felt that being called honey was very unprofessional and made me feel disrespected. At that point, I informed her that I'd be seeking my evaluation and care elsewhere. This was a terrible first impression and honestly made me afraid to go to the office. With that amount of unprofessionalism over the phone, I don't see how I can trust my care, especially for possible surgery, in the hands of this office.

My whole family goes to Dr. Gallo and I wish there were more practices like his! My mom had her root canal removed under his care. Prior to this she had several health problems that all went away after having it removed and the pain she had where the tooth was is gone completely. If you think about it, we don't keep anything else that is dead in our body, why would we keep a tooth that is considered dead? I wish more practices would do their research like Dr. Gallo's. Also he and the rest of his staff are wonderful with kids, my son had his first dentist appointment ever with him when he was 2 1/2 and he can't wait to go back to visit the dentist!

Excellent care with Dr. Gallo. He has a kind heart. Some may not understand or believe his thoughts on root canals being removed, which is fine, but he is an outstanding D.D.S.

Several months ago I went to Dr. Gallo. He advised the removal of seven of my teeth. I won't bore you with the details. I sought other dental professionals. I have not had any of my teeth removed. Dr. Gallo wants you to believe that having had root canal work can lead to cancer. There is no reputable research substantiating this. Please get a second opinion. I cringe to think what might have happened had I listened to him.

The staff and Doctors at the Jefferson St, Joliet Office are extremely friendly and have always provided me with high quality care. I first found them to remove my amalgams to eliminate mercury and replace with a safer material for fillings. They used extreme care to remove and replace them. I highly recommend this group. Dr Chan is my primary dentist, but I have had Dr Gallo a few times. Both are very personable and explain procedures well. The hygienist (Karin) is very friendly and does a great job. The billing and appointment coordinator has always been pleasant, kind, and happy to help. I have been going to them for 4 years now and have been extremely happy.
