Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires 4 to 6 additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. Approximately 50% of the oral surgeons elect to further their training by doing the 6 year track which includes attending medical school, as done so byDr. Massoomi. As a board-certifed oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Massoomi manages a wide variety of problems related to face and mouth. Dr. Massoomi practices full scope oral surgery, with expertise ranging from the beautification of the face via corrective jaw surgery, cheek or chin implants, todental implantsand procedures involving the oral cavity. He prides himself in using the latest technology in order to obtain the best results. His techniques are designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. He is known for performing his surgical procedures using the minimally-invasive approach in order to reduce the post-operative discomfort and to expedite the healing of his patients.
Nima was born and raised in New York. He grew up in northern New York, adjacent to the Adirondack Mountains, the site of the famous 1980 Olympics. He attended St. Lawrence University majoring in Biology and Chemistry and graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
Subsequently, he moved to Boston to pursue a cancer research position at Boston University Medical School, studying the gene expression of Collagen and Elastin. After a few years, he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, to continue the same project. This is where Nima realized that being a so-called lab rat was not his calling. He quickly shifted gears and pursued a combined dual-degree at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School and School of Education, one of only 6 people to do so out of his class of 120.
Additionally, during his second year in dental school, he was one of only 10 students in the US to win a prestigious research fellowship at the National Institute of Health (NIH/NIDCR), where he research the gene expression of mast cells, that are a key cell in any allergic reaction. Towards the end of his dental school training, he decided to further his schooling, with the hopes of pursing an academic teaching position in the future. This is when he elected to attend medical school at Vanderbilt University, while pursuing a six-year residency program in one of the original Oral and Maxillofacial surgery programs in the United States dating back to 1960s.
After attending medical school, he completed a one year general surgery internship at Vanderbilt and then initiated his full-time residency in Oral Surgery. Subsequently, after seeing the devastating effects of facial trauma during his residency in the Southeast, he partook in a Facial Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship at the Ohio State University under Dr. T. William Evans fine tuning his aesthetic surgery skills.
Finally in the summer of 2008, he decided to hit the road. He moved to Northern California and co-founded Silicon Valley Surgical Arts (SVSA). The aim: to create a one-stop- shop for anything related to the face, from facial trauma to oral surgical procedures, including the beautification of the face and smile. Then in 2010 he expanded his practice to San Francisco and formed a second office in the heart of the financial district called San Francisco Surgical Arts (SFSA). Part of his goal was to create more convenient access to care for his patients that may live in Silicon valley. Additionally, this office became the first Platinum LEED certified green office in the nation, winning numerous architectural and design awards. This office was featured in the foremost book on medical and dental office design that is published by Ms. Jain Malkin Inc.
Dr. Massoomi is Board-Certified in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and teaches at the University of Pacific School of Dentistry. He spends his free time biking, hiking, running and searching for the best burger in San Francisco.

Had such a great experience. Everyone is very nice and accommodating. Dr. Massoomi was very helpful and such a great Doctor who made my procedure go very smoothly and with very little pain. Desi was also great! I was very nervous before my procedure but she was very kind and helped me calm down. Overall, I had a great experience. I would recommend this place to everyone.

My son recently got his wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Massoomi. The doctor was very patient and answered all our questions. The surgery went very smoothly. I was confused about one of the medication and had to call the doctor on a Saturday morning. He called me back right away and clearly explained everything to me. Can't ask for a better doctor than Dr. Massoomi.

Dr. Massoomi and his stuff are professional and highly skilled. The pre-op appointment went well, they explained all the expectations and details. On the day of surgery I was a bit nervous, but I didn't need to. The surgery prep went fast and before I knew I was awake and it was all done. They prescribed the pain meds and the antibiotic, but the pain post-op was so minimal, I only took pain medications for the first 2 days. Finished the antibiiotic as prescribed and the operated area looks great. I would recommed Dr. Massoomi for an oral surgery.

Dr. Nima Massoomi did a fantastic job with my wisdom teeth extraction. It was my first surgery under general anesthesia, so I was super nervous, but Dr. Massoomi and his team took great care of me. Everything went smoothly, fast, and pain-free. I barely had any pain during recovery, which was very surprising to me. It's been a few months since the extraction, and everything healed just fine. I had an amazing experience with Dr. Massoomi during my wisdom teeth extraction. He explained me the process in advance and made sure I was comfortable with it. On the day of surgery the staff was really very sweet and helped me calm down before going under anesthesia. They talked with me to make sure I'm comfortable before the surgery. After surgery I was given a comprehensive instruction list and all medications were also explained in detail in the list. After listening to people's horrific experiences with post wisdom tooth extraction pain even after taking painkillers, I was scared about mine too. But I hardly had any pain at the surgical sites after taking the painkillers. Doctor had done amazing job with all the 3 of my teeth. I couldn't have asked for a more seamless wisdom tooth extraction and I would definitely recommend Dr. Massoomi for all kinds of dental treatments. You'll be in trusted hands for sure.

Dr. Massoomi and staff did an excellent job removing our youngest son's wisdom teeth. Recovery was smooth with no pain or complications. We are very pleased with every interaction from making the appointment all the way until the post-surgery follow up visit. Our older son had a great surgery, too. Dr. Massoomi is the best!

While no one wants to need oral surgery, I highly recommend Dr. Massoomi if you do. I've had to have two issues resolved with dental implants with him and he is professional, caring and confident in his work. I feel secure that my issue will be resolved in the best way possible and trust him as a surgeon. His staff is fantastic and any time you have a question they are available for support.

If you are in need of an oral surgery look no more, Dr. Massoomi and his team is the answer! I recently broke my front tooth and needed an implant! Won't sugarcoat there, I was scared and concerned on multiple levels, it was my first big surgery moment. I was lucky to be sent to Dr. Massoomi by my dentist. I scheduled an on line and in person meetings where Dr. Massoomi explained every single detail of my tooth situation and how he is able to fix it. Talking in person with such knowledgeable doctor made me comfortable with going forward with the procedure. I was very nervous the day of the surgery and his wonderful nurses were so calm and confident and very soft spoken, i was again reassured that i was in good hands and will be taken care of. As exected, surgery went well, it took about a month to fill normal again but it was all fourth it! Now the tooth that was the weakest is the stronges, all thanks to Dr. Massoomi and his team! With that said, if you need an oral surgery go straight to Dr. Massoomi's office!

Going to Dr. Massoomi was the best decision for my 15 year old sons wisdom teeth procedure. The experience was far from great as my son described it. He felt little to no pain throughout the recovery process. Dr. Massoomi and his team are responsible for this smooth process and I truly appreciate their hard work and effort. I 100% recommend Dr. Massoomi as he is one of the best options out there. Truly was a smooth and peaceful experience for my son compared to what seems like horrid to others.
