Dr. Michael Proothi grew up in Allentown, PA and completed his Bachelor of Science degree at The George Washington University, in Washington D.C. He completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the prestigious Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, in Boston, MA, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Proothi then continued his studies and obtained his Medical Degree at Stony Brook University School of Medicine where he also underwent his General Surgery training. He was the first oral and maxillofacial surgery resident to be granted the intern of the year award at this institution. His 6 year surgical residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery was completed at Stony Brook University and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Throughout his training and in private practice, Dr. Proothi has authored and co-authored articles and chapters in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. For the past 7 years, Dr. Proothi has taken his distinguished academic background and love for taking care of patients into private practice. His charismatic personality and rigorous work ethic has allowed him to work both as a clinical assistant professor at Stony Brook University, as well as a private practice surgeon. Dr. Proothi continues to use the most current and minimally invasive surgical techniques when it comes to taking care of his patients. When he is not in the office, at the hospital, giving a lecture, or learning at a conference, Dr. Proothi enjoys spending all of his time with his two children, Benjamin and Jackson. Together, they can be found at a tennis court or skiing a new mountain.
Dr. Mitchell Steinberg grew up in Great Neck, New York. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts and a Concentration in Biology and Biomedical Science. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine with an honors distinction in research.
He then pursued further education and obtained his Medical Degree from the Stony Brook University School of Medicine. He underwent a General Surgery Internship at Northshore University Hospital and completed his 6 year surgical residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Stony Brook University Hospital, and the Northport VA Medical Center. In his final year, he served as Chief Resident.
Throughout his training, Dr. Steinberg has taken a keen interest in research and pursued the most current techniques. His love for taking care of patients in both an academic and private practice setting has also carried him on multiple outreach missions. His volunteer work has taken him across the globe to countries such as Madagascar, Ecuador, and Guatemala. When he is not treating patients in the office, at the hospital, or participating at a conference, Dr. Steinberg can be found spending time with his wife, Jessica, and son, Benjamin. They love to travel, enjoy the outdoors, and sail the Long Island Sound.

Today was the start of my journey with Dr. Proothi, and while I have quite a bit of time before my orthognatic surgery, I cannot even begin to explain how comfortable I already feel and how impressed I am with this practice. Dr. Proothi has an incredible bedside manner, as he pulled up an educational video for us to watch together about the procedure I'm going to have. He genuinely took his time to explain every detail to the point where I had no questions for him by the end of my visit (and I usually have many). I also had a great interaction with Jenna Bello, RN, as she also took the time to speak with me about scheduling and what to expect as far as future communications with her via email. This team has allowed me to feel relaxed for the first time about getting this surgery, and I'm more than confident that my care is in the best hands possible.

Melissa is such a sweetheart and made sure I got my appointment moved up as soon as there was a cancellation! The staff is so wonderful at Dr. Proothi's office in Stony Brook!

I went to Dr. Proothi for a consultation. I was extremely impressed with his kind, caring and professional advice.His staff went above and beyond to help me get an appointment as soon as possible. Melissa and Victoria were so friendly and helpful. I felt well cared for. Dr. Proothi performed my procedure today. It was painless. He spent time explaining everything. I felt very comfortable.

I had an emergency visit with Dr. Proothi yesterday and he made me feel completely comfortable under the circumstances. The staff is very welcoming and calming as well.....would recommend him in a heartbeat!

Awesome experience, had a toothache for days that def needed to be pulled, was embarrassed that i waited till my cheek looked like a golf ball... but Dr. Proothi made me totally comfortable, and when he was finished i felt dumb i was nervous...the staff were really nice too!! Would recommend to anyone who is hesitant about going to dentist, total pro!!!

I just received an invoice from "...Sunrise Medical Laboratories" in the amount of $100.00 which states "Sunrise Medical Laboratories has received and processed your physician's order for Covid-19 testing, and we were not given any insurance information for you..." It also states that the "Requesting Physician" was "Dr. Michael Proothi." To the best of my knowledge I have never met "Dr. Michael Proothi"...I do not know "Dr. Michael Proothi"...nor is "Dr. Michael Proothi" my physician. Bogus? Scam?

Today i went to Dr. Proothi for the first time to have a tooth pulled for an implant. The process went flawlessly, no waiting, staff very friendly. I cannot recommend Dr. Proothi highly enough. He is an excellent surgeon and also possesses a uniquely personable bedside manner which set me at ease during a procedure which I had been nervous about. He took the time to explain each facet of the procedure to me in detail and patiently answered all of my questions before beginning. He also assured me after the procedure that I could call him at any time, and always made time to see me in the office whenever I needed for follow up appointments and check-ins in the weeks that followed. His office was a clean, well organized, and professional space, and his office staff and assistants were very nice and helpful every time I visited or called. It is clear to me that Dr. Proothi is passionate about his work and his patients. Despite the unpleasant circumstances that brought me to him, I had a great experience every time I saw him because he brings enthusiasm and confidence into every appointment. I am so grateful for all that he did for me, and would recommend him to anyone looking for an oral surgeon who will care about them as an individual and resolve any maxillofacial issue they may be facing.

My daughter and I had a GREAT experience with Dr. Proothi and his office staff. Upon arrival we were greeted by Melissa who was extremely warm and friendly and put my daughter at ease feeling less nervous and anxious. Dr.Proothi's work and bedside manner was exceptional. Dr. Proothi is hands down the BEST surgeon. Not only is he extremely skilled in his profession but his bedside manner is impeccable. I had BOTH T.M.J joints replaced in the middle of the COVID pandemic and he never once made me feel alone or scared. Dr. Proothi doesn't treat you like a patient, he treats you like a family friend. Best decision I ever made was choosing Dr. Proothi. Anytime I thought something was wrong, he and Jenna were so quick to answer my questions or concerns. I am forever in their debt. Thank you guys!!
