Dr. Michael Hilgers was born in Denver, Colorado and graduated from Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, Colorado. He was an all-state athlete in high school and looked forward to playing soccer on a scholarship in college until he injured his knee. Dr. Hilgers then became interested in athletic training during his rehabilitation and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder on an athletic training scholarship. He was an athletic trainer for five years with the National Champion University of Colorado Buffaloes football program. After graduation from the University of Colorado, Dr. Hilgers interned as an athletic trainer for the Denver Broncos & Colorado Avalanche and was later hired on as the athletic trainer for the Colorado Rapids.
After several years as an athletic trainer, Dr. Hilgers decided to follow in his familys footsteps and become an orthodontist. Dr. Hilgers has a long family history in orthodontics with many of the orthodontic appliances patented by his family and displayed at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Dr. Hilgers received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, where he graduated in the top of his class. He then did a one year residency and one year fellowship at Yale University in Connecticut. Dr. Hilgers was then accepted at the University of Louisville Orthodontic Department, where he received his Master of Science (MS) and orthodontic specialty certificate. Dr. Hilgers has published numerous articles in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, of which two of his articles were featured on the cover. Dr. Hilgers obtained his Board Certification in 2005 and is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Hilgers loves that he develops long-term relationships with his patients, and although our job is not always easy, helping people feel better about themselves and their smiles makes it all worthwhile.

We are especially interested in making all our patients feel right at home. With a combined total of over 100 years of orthodontic and dental experience, our office team is trained and skilled. As a treatment coordinator, I get to see our new patients at their first visit and I love getting them excited about our office. I also love coming to work for such an incredible doctor and loving, friendly staff. We have a great team! I enjoy working with people and the relationships we build with our patients during their treatment. It is also very rewarding watching the joy and confidence in our patients as their smiles are transformed. My husband, Tim, and I have been married for 26 years. We have two children, Tyler and Tanner,and a new granddaughter (I love being her Mimi!). I enjoy spending time with my family, whether we are hiking, fishing, camping, or just hanging out. I also love shopping with my mom and watching a good movie.
I take care of the financial aspects of our patients orthodontic treatment. Seeing the difference that orthodontics makes in a persons life is the best part of working here. They finish with more that just a great smile, but improved confidence and self-esteem as well. I am originally from Wisconsin and live here with my husband, Justin, and our dog Sadie. I love to travel, especially to the ocean. I also enjoy bike riding, playing cards, hiking, and spending time with my family.
As our scheduling coordinator, I make sure our office runs on time for the convenience of our patients. Working with Dr. Hilgers and the rest of our great staff is really a lot of fun, but the highlight of my day is seeing how everyone can have a healthy, beautiful smile through orthodontics. My husband, Robert, and I have two children, Ryan and Robert Jr.,and a shih tzu puppy name Roxy Pearl. I enjoy spending time with my family and shopping. I also volunteer with the Domestic Violence Shelter and help raise money for women and children.

Dr. Hilgers and his team have always been great! The staff always recognizes you by name and welcomes you with a smile. They make having braces fun. I thank them for everything they did and continue to do for me. I am glad we chose The Hilgers Team! I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs a orthodontist!! :)

My daughter got her braces at Hilgers Orthodontics, it was by far the best experience ever! From the front office all the way to management and Michael J. Hilgers they made the experience unforgettable. They made going to the Orthodontist fun and exciting! My daughter is 15 yrs old and refuses to go anywhere else when it comes to her smile! Thank you for all you did and continue to do! We didn't feel like a patient they made us feel like part of a family!

Dr. Hilgers and his staff are a loving group who work hard to get you the straight teeth you were born to have. Through their hard work, my unsightly teeth have become amazingly straight, and I am no longer afraid to hide my smile. I thank them for this amazing gift, and I strongly recommend them to everyone.

I have 5 daughters, two who have already gone through treatment a few years ago with Dr. Hilgers, one who just had her second stage of braces put on in December(first one was at age nine to make her all over treatment time shorter), one who is 7 and getting ready to get her first evaluation by Dr. Hilgers (they look at little ones from about age 7 and follow them for free every 6-9 months to make sure they get their braces on at the correct time), and a little one who is only 3.5 and can't wait for it to be her turn! We have moved into the North Valley and for a time wondered if we should continue care at Hilger's Orthodontics because the drive to Goodyear (even though they are right off the freeway) seemed silly since there were so many orthodontists around us. Let me tell you why we have chosen to stay: 1. My twins go to a private school where most families can afford to spend lots of money on their kids' orthodontic care - yet in every group picture and in casual conversation with other parents or other students, my high schoolers teeth stand out! We get so many comments and compliments on their smiles and their smiles really do look better than anyone else's (don't tell anyone I said that). ;-) 2. It's fun. Great rewards program - all on a gift-card-type-thing - cute shirts, great coffee (with real cream), internet cafe, great magazines, comfy seating, good music, large screen TV 3. Dr. Hilger's has superior training and his skill set is unparallelled - Believe me, I have checked it out. And I've of course seen it in my own kids. My girls have been complicated cases with complex issues that involved lots of extra steps and care. 4. I am picky and work hard for my money and I expect my kids' smiles to be perfect. Perfect. Absolutely. Perfect. AND THEY ARE - and he is patient with me and exceeds my expectations.
