Dr. Hanlonbegan practicing in periodontics in the Greater Cincinnati area in 1993. She opened her first private officein the Monfort Heights/White Oak area in 1997. In late 2012, due to a need for improved patient access, the office was moved to Colerain Township.

Dr. Hanlongraduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1990. Continuing her Buckeye training, she completed her Masters degree and received her certificate in Periodontology in 1993. Since moving to Cincinnati, Dr. Hanlon actively volunteers in local, state, national and international dental organizations and activities. Oral health is a reflection of overall health, she says. Promoting dentistry and serving others at the same time is a win-win for everyone.

The term periodontics refers to the dental specialty dealing with the study and treatment of periodontal (around the tooth) disease.Following graduation from dental school, periodontists complete three years of specialty training. Periodontists, like dentists, must pass aboard examination and maintain an active dental license.

Periodontal disease is a progressive condition, typically beginning with mild gum inflammation (gingivitis). It is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults living in the developed world. Patients with periodontal disease (often called gum disease)typically exhibit red, swollen, bleeding gums. Although pain is possible, most patients remain asymptomatic until the later stages of the disease are reached.

Periodontal disease generally begins when the bacteria living in plaque cause an infection in the tissues surrounding the teeth. Eventually, this infection spreads to the jawbone, causing the teeth to loosen and exfoliate.

  • Localized gum recession Gum recession is often seen in association with the loss of underlying bone support. However, it may also be caused byimproper brushing, tooth malpositioning, muscle impingement and trauma. Immediate treatment helps limit further spread.
  • Beforeplacing a crown To ensure the best possible fit, your dentist may need additional tooth exposure before making your crown. This toothexposure(lengthening) is easily accomplishedas your periodontist reshapes the bone and soft tissue.
  • Ridge augmentation This procedure is often performed when a more esthetic gum contour is desired. In addition to improving the appearance of your smile, this procedure often improves the feel and function of your teeth.
  • Treating periodontal problems of all kinds doesn't stop oncepatients leave the office. Upon completion of treatment, many patients will be placed on an alternating recall schedule. This way, the expertise of both the general dentist and the periodontist is always available and recurring problems are intercepted much earlier.

The bestlong termresults are achieved when patients know how to keep their mouths germ free. Personalized oral hygiene routines, specifically tailored to each patient's needs, make maintaining that healthy smile easy!

SO knowledge and explains everything to you in a way that you can easily understand. She took the extra time to make sure I was comfortable and helped calmed my nerves. Plus she's HILARIOUS which was perfect when I needed a distraction during my procedure. Absolutely cannot recommend her enough!

Great Lady, knowledgeable, doesn't do more than needs to be done. Made me feel very comfortable. Any staff that I've encountered have all been very professional and accommodating. The office and even the restroom is very clean! I could go back to a general dentist and save a little money since having my initial treatment; but because of the great environment and experience I'd rather keep coming to her for my cleanings.
