As a dentist, I have been blessed with longevity and perseverance. I have watched many kids grow to become adults and am now privileged to treat their children. I have also had many patients of my parentsgeneration that I was honored to care for to the ends of their lives.
After practicing for almost 40 years, first in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps for three years and then in private practice in St. Louis, I still look forward to coming to the office. I enjoy meeting people who need us, setting goals with them, formulating treatment plans with them, and then seeing these plans through to completion.
Ours is a small practice: We work one-on-one with our patients, and getto know each on a personal level. We know their names, their stories, their needs and idiosyncrasies, and we treat each like family.
A lot of dental offices offer technical skills, great knowledge, and modern equipment. We have all that, and we have the personal skills and commitment necessary to make what can be challenging for a lot of people easier to accomplish.
Our office manager Nancy, chairside assistant Candace, and hygienist Sarahare all personable. They put each patient at ease, listen to the persons desires, and respect who they are. They make our office a pleasant, supportive environment, where patients learn we genuinely care.
I grew up in the Skinker/DeBaliviere area and attended grade school, high school, college, and dental school all in St. Louis. After three years in the U.S. Navy, home-ported in southern California, I returned to my community and have lived in Glendale ever since.
Outside the office, time with family is important to me. I have three adult children , all married and eight amazing grandchildren. I spend as much time as possible with the grand kids. I especially like going to their sports events. They are all still at the 'herd ball' level.
Im at my happiest when Im on a lake with a fishing pole in my hand. At home, I have a basement full of tropical fish tanks, and in the backyard I have waterfalls andthree ponds that are home to dozens of koi fish, and surrounded by plants and bushes.
For the past twelve years I have tutored inner-city boys in sixth through eighth grade. For many of those years I coached the school's track team. For the past 30years, I have taken care of the girls section of Boys Hope/Girls Hope providing them with all phases of general dentistry without charge. I recently got involved with the Archdiocese of St. Louis working as a volunteer on their new mobile dental unit treating underserved children in rural areas. I now have more time to give back and am a firm believer in making a hands-on difference, one child at a time.
Our team is small and caring by design. Sarah, our hygienist, is the best in her field: she is extremely organized, gentle, and takes time to educate patients about oral hygiene. Candace, our chairside dental assistant, is also extremely proficient: She ensures Dr. McCarthy has everything needed while keeping their patient comfortable.
Dentistry does not get any better than this. Each of us enjoys being here to help each other put our patients first. I am proud to be part of this team and love that its allowed me to meet all of our wonderful patients and their families!
Outside of the office, I enjoy teaching a variety of fitness classes, sinceI am a certified and licensed fitness instructor and fitness coach. I have two daughters who are both married and have children. Im close to my family and am proud of and humbled by my daughters many accomplishments. Im also a dog lover and share my life with two Pugs.
Being part of a compassionate, supportive team, and spending my days in a positive working environment, makes me excited to come to the office! Dr. McCarthy is an excellent dentist, and everyone here genuinely cares about our patients.
I started working in the field in 2010as a dental assistant, before completing a dental hygiene program. My goal, as a hygienist, is to give my patients a happy, healthy smile, empower them to improve their home oral hygiene, and build a personal relationship with each.
I handle patient health screening, assess the patients oral health, and take digital X-rays. I also remove calculus and plaque from teeth, apply preventive materials to protect teeth, and offer a lot of patient education.
I love working with Dr. McCarthy and our team because we all coordinate well together. We are always working to make sure our patients are well cared for and we are always laughing. I am truly grateful to be with such wonderful people every day.
I seat people, prepare patients for their treatment, and explain what well be doing. Staying chairside, I assist Dr. McCarthy with the procedure:acting as his second pair of hands and constantly checking that our patient is comfortable. When finished, I offer home care instructions and check that our patient is pleased with how the visit went.
Born and raised in St. Louis, I have a love for the city and its character. When Im not hanging out with friends at a great local restaurant, I enjoy quality time with my family. Im a cat lover, a wine lover, and a music lover. Come spring, strolling through a city park and enjoying the simple pleasures of life makes me happy.
