DR. MARK GUTT - Periodontist in Key West, FLDR. MARK GUTT - Periodontist in Key West, FL

Dr. Gutt is the founder and principal of his oral health care practice. He established his practice in South Florida in 1991, specializing in the treatment of gum disease (periodontitis), and the placement of dental implants to replace missing teeth.

Over the years Dr. Gutt has treated an international clientele of over one thousand patients from all walks of life, multiple cultures, and multiple languages. He speaks Spanish and Hebrew in addition to English.

Dr. Gutt was educated at Boston University where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in 1984, and at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned both, his doctor of dental medicine (DMD) in 1989 and his specialty certification in periodontics in 1991. He completed his board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 1999.

A pioneer in the latest treatment modalities, Dr. Gutt also provides a form of laser periodontal treatment called LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure). He is the first periodontist in Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County to offer YOMI, a robotic-assisted dental implant treatment system in his office. As utilized by Dr. Gutt, YOMI provides greater precision in implant placement, faster treatment time, and less invasive treatment with faster recovery time.

Dr. Gutt is board certified in the specialty of periodontics. He has earned the designation of Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, which is awarded to practitioners that complete advanced training and demonstrate their knowledge and skills by means of a rigorous examination and peer review process. Fewer than 20% of all periodontists have achieved this distinctive certification.

As a requirement of board certification, Dr. Gutt maintains his skill level through ongoing education. He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology and a leader in the South Florida professional community who frequently collaborates with other professionals to deliver the most comprehensive care.

Dr. Gutt is trained in state-of-the-art laser treatment of periodontal disease. He is certified in the use of the Periolase MVP-7, an advanced surgical tool that uses laser energy instead of scalpels and sutures in a technique known as the'Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure' or LANAP. He is part of an exclusive group of periodontists who are certified in the use of this technology.

Dr. Gutt is trained and certified in the use of the Pinhole Surgical Technique PST, an incision-free procedure that involves making a very small hole and special instruments to loosen the gum tissue and move it over the areas with gum recession.

Dr. Gutt has received international industry recognition for his contribution to the body of professional knowledge in periodontics. He was awarded first place in a case competition sponsored by the Straumann Company in 2010, and his expert case study was published in the Straumann Company's case book for practitioners.

I earned my degree in Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania and then completed my advancedtraining earning my certification in Periodontics (also at University of Pennsylvania), the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the gums, teeth, and jawbone. Periodontics is a surgical specialty.

It is the designation given to periodontists who have pursued post-licensing training and passed rigorous examinations that test their proficiency in the specialty. You can think of a Diplomate as 'board certified' by the American Board of Periodontology.

When considering dental implants to replacemissing teeth, many patients have questions or concerns regarding the process. Placing dental implants is a commonly performed procedure and has an impressive rate of success and patient satisfaction.

A local anesthetic is used to block pain during the surgery. Dr. Mark I. Gutt will generally prescribe a pain medication for post-surgery use although most patients find they can return to work the following day

If you have missing teeth and would like to find apermanent, natural looking solution, you are a potential candidate. There are some instances where patients do not have adequate amounts of bone needed to make the procedure a success. Missing teeth actually cause bone loss. In that case, it may be possible to undergo bone grafting to increase the likelihood of success.

With dental implants, a titanium post is implanted in the jawbone to serve as a sturdy foundation, much like the root of a tooth. Titanium dental implants are used because titanium has been found effective and safe, a biologically compatiblematerial. This post fuses to the jawbone over the next several months creating a secure base for the abutment and crown. The abutment fits into the post and offers a stable base for the crown which is matched in shade and shape to the surrounding teeth and appears to be growing from the gum line just like your natural teeth.

Due to the fact that any instance of missing teeth will begin the process of bone loss, dental implants provide a stimulus for the bone, thereby preserving bone long term. If you have already experienced bone loss due to previous medical conditions, injuries, or lengthy denture wear, you may require a bone graft before undergoing the procedure for dental implants.

Adental implantcan be thought of as an artificial tooth root. It is surgically embedded in the jawbone, replacing the natural tooth root. The dental implant is topped off with a crown, which is an artificial tooth.

Dental implants offer a number of advantages overdentures and bridge work. Primarily, implants are permanent, which eliminates the tedious routine of removal for daily cleaning. Implants feel, look like, and function as well as, natural teeth. They avoid some of the problems of dentures, such as imperfect fit to the contours of the palate. They also avoid problems associated with a dental bridge, such as wear on the teeth and gums to which the bridge is attached. So yes, dental implants are a better solution to missing teeth.

I couldn't be happier with my experience. Dr Gutt found the problem and fixed the problem that same visit. I had gone to two previous dentists and Dr Gutt immediately knew what the problem was and how to address it whereas the other two did not and missed an infection. Five stars for sure. Thank you Dr Gutt

After years of dealing with a front tooth that had been damaged when I was 8 (sister tripped me and I went face first into a formica countertop corner, thanks sis), finally had to have the whole thing removed and prepped for an implant. I met Dr. Gutt in Key West for the initial consultation where he explained everything, let me look over all the scans and information and recommended the Yomi robotic system that offers a high degree of precision with the implantation procedure. He's very personable, and genuinely wants what is best for the patient. His staff is great too. Lyn communicated with me regularly and organized the logistics, really nice lady. Went to his office in Miami Beach for the procedure. Jessica, his assistant, walked me through everything, answered my stupid questions, and was just great in general. There was also a younger lady present who assisted, I'm assuming she was an intern, she was also very nice (I don't recall her name, if you're reading this sorry). Finally, a company rep for either the robot itself or the software that runs it (I'm not really sure) was present for the procedure, which was interesting. The procedure itself was overall pretty quick. Even though old #8 seemed to not want to leave my skull, a couple of minutes and it was out, didn't feel a thing, thank you Mr. Novacaine. Prepping the site and aligning the scans of my skull seemed to take longer than drilling the actual hole (I think it was a series of four successively larger bits). As the old saying goes "measure twice, cut once" so I was glad to see the extensive prep and checking/rechecking. Finally they installed the "implant body", which I'm imagining is like a wall anchor you use to hang a picture, except it's in my skull and will hold a prosthetic tooth in the near future. Torquing that bad boy in was pretty intense, but otherwise not too bad. Follow-up care was excellent, I freaked out a bit when the hole where the tooth goes filled with a giant blood clot, but apparently that's par for the course. Dr. Gutt and Jessica looked at pics and over FaceTime, and Dr. Gutt even saw me the following Friday to give it a quick look. So in the end, they made what would normally be a nerve-wracking experience for me as pleasant and easy as possible, and I'm pleased with the outcome. UPDATE: Follow up three months later, looks like the bone grafts settled in well and I'm good to go for the actual prosthetic. Thanks again to everyone for making this all happen smoothly.

I love this doctor and this office. I have waited to write a review because I needed extensive work done and I wanted to wait until I had most of it done and get the full experience. I am so definitely afraid of the dentist and that's where my problems started. Once my kids got older I did not continue to go to the dentist. I now have periodontal disease. I was recommended by my dentist to see a periodontist. After doing some homework I found Dr. Gutt. I really want to save my own teeth if possible. Pulling all of them at once and getting implants is it what I was told I had to do by another. My husband is going through this right now with the military doctors and it is painful, lengthy and downright horrible. Dr Gutt suggested I get a laser treatment called the LANAP PROCEDURE (100% success rating). After lots of Novocaine it is completely pain-free. Recovery is unbelievable! I had no pain or bleeding. Diet, however is limited for a good 2 months at least. In my case that's a good thing LOL I went for my first cleaning today after the procedure (7 weeks) the hygienist was wonderful! She had a very unique name so I apologize I cannot give appropriate credit. All I can say is thank you to Dr Gutt and his dental hygienists. Every experience I've had has been professional, and next to pain free. I highly recommend this office and staff.
