Dr. Jimmy Gardiner has always enjoyed calling the Shoals, AL, area home. Born and raised in Tuscumbia, AL, Dr. Gardiner is fulfilling his lifelong dream of serving the people of Northwest Alabama. Dr. Gardiner finished his undergraduate studies at Birmingham Southern in 1987 with an emphasis in chemistry and history. He graduated from the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Dentistry in 1992 and immediately opened his private practice in downtown Tuscumbia.

Dr. Gardiner is a member of the ADA and is committed to at least 60 hours yearly of continuing education. He has always been passionate about life and eager to take on new challenges. In 2011, he was inspired to embrace the changing face of dentistry and renewed his commitment to continuing education by studying research on the direct link between oral health and systemic health. Keeping our practice at the forefront of new dental technology enables our team to better assist with our patients' overall health.

Dr. Gardiner keeps up-to-date on the frequent changes in health care by attending continuing education classes and reading impressive amounts of material on the latest dental techniques. Dr. Gardiner has consistently invested in advancements in dental technology, such as digital radiography and the 1-day crown E4D system. This year Dr. Gardiner also became a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, which is dedicated to the role of dentistry in the management of sleep disordered breathing.

Dr. Gardiner and his wife, Nan, have two children, J. and Ryan Leigh. They enjoy spending time together on their farm and other outdoor activities. They especially look forward to hosting the annual Saddle-up for St. Jude event in Tuscumbia, which has raised over 2 million dollars for St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Dr. James L. Maples united with Singing River Dentistry in 2014, joining his lifelong friend Dr. Jimmy Gardiner, to provide quality dental care for people in the Shoals, AL, area with extended hours and quality dental care.

Dr. Maples graduated from Deshler High School, Tuscumbia, AL, and continued his education at the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in 1991 from UAB School of Dentistry. From there, he came back to the Shoals, AL, and began practicing with Dr. Rivers Lindsey in Florence, AL. Dr. Maples has been practicing in the area for 30 years.

He continued his practice after Dr. Lindsey retired and remained until he became part of the Singing River Dentistry Team. He has always enjoyed being a family dentist working with patients of all ages. When he is with a patient, he strives to help them achieve overall health in a pleasant environment.

Dr. Maples strives to stay up-to-date on the latest dental technologies and techniques by participating in at least 20 hours of continuing education each year. He was recognized as the Times Daily Shoals Favorite Dentist.

Dr. Maples has always been active in his community. He grew up attending Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church, where he served as youth minister for five years. He now enjoys teaching the 'Character Builders' men 's Sunday school class.

Dr. Maples also stays active at his alma mater, Deshler High School where he played on the Deshler Football team and now serves as the team chaplain. He also enjoys working with Dr. Gardiner on the radio broadcast of Deshler Tiger Football.

Dr. Maples has been married to his high school sweetheart, Mashea Holden Maples, for over 30 years. Together, they have three children, Jessica, Lauren and Tanner. Jessica and her husband Nick have a daughter, Harper. Their daughter Lauren and her husband Casey have two sons, Carter and Sadler.

Dr. Brittany Westerman specializes in advanced cosmetic dentistry, headache/migraine and TMJ pain treatment, implant dentistry, and therapeutic and esthetic applications of BOTOX (Botulinum Neurotoxin). She is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Academy of Laser Dentistry. She regularly attends continuing education courses whenever she has a chance, so she can deliver the most up-to-date techniques and the latest technology to her patients. She is trained and competent in cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, endodontics, pedodontics, periodontics, restorative dentistry, and prosthodontics.

Dr. Westerman's goal as a dentist is to make all of her patients feel like family from the moment they walk in the door, until they leave the office. She has a true passion for renovating smiles and loves to help her patients improve and fall in love with their smiles. Dr. Westerman actually decided she wanted to become a dentist at age 15 after her childhood dentist fixed her own smile. She immediately noticed her improved smile dramatically changed her life by improving her overall confidence in herself. She hopes that she too can impact her patients in the same way.

Dr. Westerman was born in Opelika, Alabama, lived in Jasper, Alabama, for the majority of her childhood, then at the age of 15, her family moved to Dawsonville, Georgia. She is one of four daughters to Thad and Barbara Burgess. She and all three of her sisters attended the University of Georgia. She received her undergraduate degree in biological sciences with a pre-dental focus. After graduating from UGA, she completed a year of service through AmeriCorps, where she was mentor to eighth gradestudents at risk of dropping out in an inner-city school in Los Angeles, California. She then completed dental school at the Dental College of Georgia. She chose to complete additional training after dental school and gained an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency degree at the Birmingham VA Hospital and University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Dr. Westerman married her husband, Jannie, in January 2016 and they welcomed their daughter, Holt, into the world in 2020. They are excited to make the Shoals area their forever home. When Dr. Westerman is not at work, she enjoys watching Georgia Bulldogs football, volunteering at the Shoals Community Center extracting teeth, participating as a board member in Junior League of the Shoals, and of course spoiling her daughter and fur babies.

Dr. Whitney Flippo was born and raised in Florence, AL where she attended Wilson High School. She continued her education at the University of North Alabama and she received a Bachelor's degree with honors in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Spanish in 2012. Dr. Flippo earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 2018.

Dr. Flippo is a member of the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry. She regularly attends continuing education courses to stay on the forefront of the newest advances and techniques in dentistry to better serve her patients.

Dr. Flippo's love for dentistry began on a short-term mission trip during college. It was at this time she realized dentistry was an opportunity to serve those who need it most, whether they where abroad or in her own backyard. Dr. Flippo's top priority is to create a welcoming environment for each and every patient and make sure they leave loving their healthy smile.

Dr. Flippo is married to her husband, Joe, who is a police officer for the city of Florence. They welcomed their first child, Annie, in December 2019. In their free time, Dr. Flippo and her family enjoy spending time outside with their 2 dogs and traveling to their favorite places, the beach and Disney World.

Dr. Mark Love received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama prior to attending the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, from which he graduated in 1984. He has practiced dentistry for over 35 years and completes a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education courses each year to stay at the forefront of the dental field. Dr. Love is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Tri-County Dental Society.

Dr. Andrew Henninger is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and practiced in Huntsville, AL prior to joining our team at Singing River Dentistry. He grew up in a small town in Tennessee before attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2002. While at UAH he earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and played on the UAH mens soccer team for four years (his favorite soccer team is Manchester United). After undergrad, he began his first career as an engineer and spent eight years working on various contracts supporting the Army and the Missile Defense Agency.

In 2012, shortly after serving on a dental mission trip in Haiti, Dr. Henninger decided to change careers. I saw a profession where I could meet a need for others and get to interact with people on a personal level every day! He has since been on two additional trips out of the country as well as serving in his local community, and he plans to continue this type of service work throughout his dental career.

Dr. Henninger and his wife Julie have two sons, Jacob and Charlie. They enjoy spending time outside with family and love to take advantage of the many trails in greenways in North Alabama. They are members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison, AL.

Dr. Henninger is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Alabama Dental Association (ALDA), Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID). He was awarded the 2019 AGD Senior Dental Award during in his final year at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. An award given to the student exhibiting the greatest interest, knowledge, and proficientcy in the field of general dentistry. Since graduating dental school, Dr. Henninger regularly attends continuing education courses and is working toward a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. He is passionate about learning and utilizing the latest technology in dentistry.

Dr. Allen was born in Mobile, AL, the hometown of both his parents. He is an alumni of Mississippi State University, received a bachelors degree in chemistry from Mississippi College, and DMD from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

The Navy Reserve has given him the opportunity to volunteer to serve in 9 different countries and many stateside locations caring for our sailors, marines, and coast guard, He also was asked to work alongside the Army for an IRT. In addition to Reserve duties he has participated in many mission trips. These events have covered 5 continents and over 30 countries, providing dental assistance to less fortunate people in the world. Dr Allen 's motto since graduating from Dental School has been 'Dentistry is My Ministry'. Dr Allen served as deacon in FBC Jackson where he taught Bible Drill, Sunday School to 5th graders and high school seniors for over 25 years.

I am native of Muscle Shoals, AL. I have returned back to North Alabama to serve and join the team that offers the highest caliber of dental care in the area. It is a joy to be back in the place I call home. I have one sister who lives in New York with my brother-in-law and niece. I graduated from Auburn University in 2016 with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences with honors and a minor in Spanish. I then attended UAB School of Dentistry, where I graduated in 2020 with my degree in dental medicine. I have spent many years abroad in medical missions (including Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Guatemala), and I hope to use my skill and knowledge to serve underserved populations in the future. I am a member of the American Student Dental Association, American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, and American Academy of General Dentistry. My goal is to provide a fun and inviting atmosphere with my team, for all ages, from the second you park to the moment we complete your treatment. Dr. Park was born and raised in South Korea, where she dreamed of moving to America. At age 15 she moved to America and lived with host families in Oregon and Colorado where she received great support and love from her community.She chose the dental field so that she could provide for others with the same care that she grew up with.

Dr. Park quickly became a special part of our dental family. She loves getting to know her patients, and her patients love her energy. Her laugh is infectious, and her positive mindset drives everything she does. Our team is inspired by her one-of-a-kind, fun-loving energy, which spreads happiness to everyone she meets.

She prides herself in always learning and growing her skills by taking many extra courses. After work, she loves outdoor activities, photography, playing the piano, and making videos with her husband!

Dr. Krina Patel grew up near Valdosta, GA. She graduated high school early at the age of 16! She then attended Valdosta State University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry.. After finishing her undergraduate education, she attended Midwestern University in Chicago where she received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine Degree.

Dr. Patel is educated in comprehensive dentistry and during her clinical rotations she was able to broaden her pediatric knowledge. She currently works primarily at our childrens office, SRD on 5th.She is fluent is 3 languages, including English, Hindi, and Gujurati. She also has a fondness for coffee and loves a friendly competition. She loves her work, and always volunteers for the on call shifts, but during her free time, she likes working out, reading, and traveling!

Dr. Daniel Petersen grew up in Madison, AL where he graduated from Bob Jones High School in 2006. Immediately after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69). He served for six years working with both missile systems and radars. After his enlistment ended, he attended the University of Alabama. He graduated in 2015 with his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology (summa cum laude). He then attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry where he graduated with his Doctorate in Dental Medicine in 2020. After graduation, Dr. Petersen desired to gain more advanced dental training while simultaneously giving back to the men and women who have served this country. With this in mind, he was honored with the opportunity to serve our veterans at the Birmingham VA Medical Center, and earned an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency certificate.

Dr. Petersen resides within the Shoals community. When not working, he enjoys spending time with both his family and friends. He loves working out, and is completely fascinated on how nutrition combined with exercise can change a persons body composition. Dr. Petersen has big aspirations to earn his private pilots license, and travel the world. As a Navy veteran, he is also obsessed with any sport or hobby that involves the water. Likewise, his chocolate lab, named Brody, is equally in love with the water.

Dr. Petersens PRIMARY GOAL is to earn the trust of each one of his patients while simultaneously delivering smiles that they are proud to display. He is dedicated to delivering a positive experience for each patient, and strives to have each one feel as if they are part of the Singing River Dentistry family.

He has been trained and is highly proficient in dental implant placement, complex tooth extractions, endodontics (root canals), periodontics (gum and bone health), and prosthodontics (crowns, bridges, and dentures). As a firm believer in life-long learning, he stays up-to-date with the latest dental techniques by regularly attending continuing education courses, and implementing those new techniques into his dental practice. Dr. Petersen is a member of the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Marikit Magkalas, known by her patients as Dr. Kit was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree from Centro Escolar University in 2008. She practiced pediatric dentistry in the Philippines for 7 years before movingto the United States. In order to practice dentistry in the U.S. she received her second Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 2020.

In her spare time she likes to cook, but also loves to try new restaurants on the weekends. She loves to travel whenever possible, especially on holidays. She also has a beloved cat named Mrs. Meowgi, who she says is basically like a daughter to her.
