Welcome to our virtual office. We have set up this website as an introduction to our office, to tell you a little about periodontal disease, share our philosophy of conservative periodontal treatment, and encourage you to take care of your periodontal problems.
A smile is the first impression that communicates your happiness and confidence. If you want to keep (or improve) that winning smile, you'll want to take care of its foundation - your periodontal health.
Perhaps you were recently advised that you have periodontal disease, or you've noticed some of the warning signs yourself (bleeding gums, bad breath, shifting or loose teeth). Or, you have missing teeth and would like to know about dental implants. Most people are a little nervous when they hear they need to see a Periodontist. We're sure you have many questions. We want to help ease your concerns by helping you understand what periodontal disease is and how it is treated. Although surgery is sometimes necessary, we specialize in many types of conservative, nonsurgical treatments. Many of our patients do not need surgery.
Nowadays, patients want to be more educated about their medical and dental conditions. The first step is for you to start gathering information. We've made that easy for you. By clicking on the tabs in the top brown bar above, you will learn about Dr. Leon and her excellent staff, what periodontal disease is, how it is related to other medical issues, how it is treated, and the importance of ongoing care (periodontal maintenance).
Dr. Leon then attended Syracuse University. After just 3 years of college, she was accepted to Fairleigh Dickinson Dental School. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson Dental School in 1981. This was followed by a General Practice Residency at Waterbury Hospital in Connecticut, further improving her skills while treating the less-fortunate.
After working as a general dentist for a few years, Dr. Leon returned to dental school for another advanced degree She chose Periodontics because it is literally the 'foundation' of dentistry. She attended New Jersey Dental School and completed the Post-Graduate Specialty Program in Periodontics in 1985.
Dr. Leon became Board-Certified in 1989. This is also known as being a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. It is a long and difficult process. Part of the process involved extensive written and oral testing by world-famous Periodontists (some of whom have written chapters in our textbooks). Dr. Leon also had to present and discuss several patients that she's treated. Currently, less than 50% of Periodontists have gone the extra steps to become Board-Certified, so she is very proud of this accomplishment.
Some of Dr. Leon's hobbies and interests include photography, skiing, biking, scuba diving, travel, and her family. All of the photos on this website were taken by Dr. Leon, and she enjoys displaying her photography in the office.
