He graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1975 with Thesis Honors. He was a Clinical Instructor at the dental school for six years and has lectured and written on topics of interest to dental professionals.
Dr. Volland is a past president of the Eighth District and Niagara County Dental Societies and served as President of the New York State Dental Association - a constituency of the American Dental Association comprised of nearly 13,000 dentists state-wide.
He has been a member of several committees of the American Dental Association dealing with dental technology and dental insurance. Dr. Volland served in the House of Delegates of the American Dental Association for 15 years. Currently, he chairs EDPAC, the dental political action committee in New York and continues to serve on a number of boards and committees of state and national Dental Organizations. In Lockport, he sits on the Board of Directors of The Dale Association, a non-profit organization providing elder care and mental health services in Niagara County.
Dr. Volland is a fellow in the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Academy of Dentists International, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He was honored as the Commencement speaker at the School of Dental Medicine in 2005.
