Dr. Aliza Hanif is originally from Doral, Florida. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Sciences and Religion, with a focus on pre-health. Upon graduation, she returned to Florida to work in the nonprofit sector. While working, she became passionate about entrepreneurship which led her to pursue a Masters in Management at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. After working in various industries as a marketer, she decided to pursue a career in dentistry as she felt that she can make a larger impact within her community. She made her to return to the New England area and earned her doctorate from the University of New England-College of Dental Medicine in 2021. During her time in dental school, she was an active participant in her community as a CUP AHEC Scholar, admissions interviewer, student board member for the Maine AHEC Advisory Committee, and collaborated with faculty as well as students to improve marketing for the college's Oral Health Center. She also received the Interprofessional Team Immersion Honors Distinction.
Dr. Hanif believes in evidence-based, comprehensive dentistry. She enjoys connecting with individuals from all walks of life and brings that demeanor to each patient encounter. She strives to provide a comfortable environment and focuses on tailoring each treatment plan to each patient's specific needs.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Hanif is an avid golfer. In high school, she became the first golfer in Miami-Dade to win four major tournaments in one season. Her talents carried her through college, where she led her team to the Division III National Championships in 2008. Her continued love for the sport led her to turn professional, where she competed on a mini-tour in South Florida. Apart from golf, she enjoys spending time with her parents in Miami, cooking, hiking, running, and playing tennis from time to time. She also enjoys learning new languages, as she speaks proficient French.
Carlen is our Practice Director. Carlen grew up in the dental field, tagging along with her parents to dental offices and dental conferences since she was a child. She began working as a part-time assistant for her father, Dr. Michael Bufo, in high school. In college, Carlen pursued her love for animals and studied veterinary science. She competed on the Mount Ida College Equestrian Team and traveled to Montana to work with horses. Carlen graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science. She was a member of the Alpha Chi National Honors Society, representing the top 10% of her class. After college, she began her career in veterinary medicine, then was quickly recruited by Dr. Bufo to join the family business!
Carlen has attended courses at LVI (Las Vegas Institute in Nevada) and is a member of AADOM (American Association of Dental Office Management) and the Southern Maine AADOM Chapter. Carlen enjoys learning new things and is on an 'endless journey' to improve and evolve her father 's practices. Her favorite part of her position is creating a positive impact in the lives of her team. When she is not working, you can find Carlen somewhere with her family, probably outdoors! She has a big love for the state of Maine and enjoys spending her free time either in the water or on a hike. Carlen lives by Little Sebago Lake in Windham with her husband and son, Golden Retriever Sam, and cat Ares.
Shauna graduated from the University of New England in 2011 with an Associates Degree and again in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Shauna joined our team in 2013 and has enjoyed growing with her work family here at Windham Dental. Shauna is a member of the Casco Bay Study Club where she continues to expand her knowledge and insight in the ever-growing dental profession.
Shauna lives in New Gloucester with her boyfriend and beloved bunny, Bun Bun! She enjoys shopping, baking, spending time with her family and exploring with her friends. Shauna is incredibly talented in her work and passionate about her patients oral health. She has the unique ability to make anyone smile with her infectious laugh and bubbly personality - making her visits with her patients not just enjoyable, but fun!
Angela started her dental career in 2001 as a dental assistant. She graduated from the University of New England in 2007 with her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene and has been working in our office ever since. Angela is from Harrison where she lives with her husband and two children. She spends her spare time hunting, fishing, swimming, and anything else the Great Maine Outdoors has to offer. Angela 's down-to-earth and friendly nature comes across to all of her patients and makes them feel at ease during their visits. The strong relationships she has developed with them over the years show what a great hygienist she truly is! Kim is proud and passionate about her career as a dental assistant for over 20 years. She has worked in both orthodontic and pediatric dental practices. She takes great pride in her work and is dedicated to helping people to improve their smile. Putting her skills & education in practice, Kim most enjoys building long lasting relationships with her patients. Kim loves the great outdoors including boating, gardening and making things beautiful with family and friends.
Amanda enjoys camping and spending time outdoors throughout the state of Maine with her husband and 3 children. New to the dental profession, Amanda's favorite part of working in the dentistry is interacting with patients one on one.
Julia is one of our hygienists here at Windham Dental Associates. She has grown up right here in Windham and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of New England. Julia's upbeat, happy attitude always gives the patients a smile as they leave her chair. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time at her camp on Sebago Lake with friends and family. In the winter months, you can find Julia curled up reading a book or out on the slopes! Make sure you say hi if you see her in the office!
