Dr. King Kims journey to oral surgery and facial cosmetic surgery has spanned the United States and enabled him to travel the world to provide complete specialized surgical care to many communities. He earned a Bachelor of Psychology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he also began his study of medicine. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh where he achieved a D.M.D degree. In search of continuing his pursuit in the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Kim earned a certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Nova Southeastern University/Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While in South Florida for his residency, Dr. Kim trained at Memorial Regional Hospital, Baptist Hospital, South Miami Hospital, Broward General Medical Center and Doctors Hospital in South Miami. During his residency, Dr. Kim instilled a passion for facial cosmetic surgery. This led him to complete a fellowship in Facial Cosmetic Surgery at Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi.
Dr. Kim is the only doctor in Brevard County to be board certified by both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and the American Society of Cosmetic Physicians. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Kim is also a Board Examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and co-authored a textbook entitled: Cosmetic Surgery for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with his mentor Dr. John Griffin. Dr. Kim has also published numerous journal articles and other textbook chapters within his specialty, and has lectured nationally and internationally.
He has volunteered services in underserved communities in the United States, Central America, and South America. He volunteers once a month here in Brevard County for Brevard Health Alliance and Space Coast Volunteers. He maintains a position as adjunct clinical professor at Nova Southeastern University/Broward General Medical Centers Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, where he lectures and is involved with teaching facial cosmetic surgery to the residents. Today, Dr. Kim passionately practices facial cosmetic surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Melbourne and Suntree/Rockledge locations of Sunrise Facial and Oral Surgery.
Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with his wife, Amber, and their two sons. He loves to participate in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, scuba diving, snow skiing, golfing, riding motorcycles, playing piano, and teach his kids skiing and golfing
Dr. Rick Schmid grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where he attended Michigan State University and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology before achieving his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Originally, he had planned on becoming an orthodontist, but was intrigued by the excitement exuded by the surgical residents already enrolled in the anesthesia, oral and maxillofacial programs. The intellectual challenge beckoned him to pursue the specialty where he quickly found passion, and his aptitude for the program enabled him to excel in the specialty. After practicing general dentistry for four years Dr. Schmid went on to earn certificates in oral and maxillofacial surgery at both the Detroit Macomb Hospital Association and the Childrens Hospital of Michigan programs.
Since 1983 Dr. Schmid has been practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery in Melbourne, Florida. He is one of only two surgeons in Brevard County that has earned Board Certification as a Diplomate of both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. For 18 years he served as Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Holmes Regional Medical Center, and has served as former president of the Brevard County Dental Society.
Being an expert in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery drives Dr. Schmid to be on the forefront of oral surgical technology. His experience in emergency room facial trauma and complex oral surgery has provided him with distinction in Brevard County as a highly sought-after surgeon. His goal is to treat patients who have very few remaining treatment options, and assure that their quality of life is restored.
Dr. Schmid and his wife Donna have raised five children and recently welcomed their fourth grandchild into the world. In their spare time they enjoy skiing, and spending vacation time together in Dr. Schmids home state of Michigan.

Everyone was very professional. Nurse was sweet & went over everything re: what to be done & where. Dr Kim was fantastic started there was not enough novacaine. Immediately gave more. Had the tooth out within 5 minutes & out the door. Never had that quick of extraction. He is good. In fact great. I would refer any one to him for teeth extraction. Thank you Dr Kim & office staff.

Dr Schmid extracted 1 tooth and inserted 2 dental implants at the same appointment. One implant was inserted into an existing bone graft & on the 2nd implant, he added a bone graft with the implant. Dr Schmid is extremely professional, and puts you at ease immediately. I felt he was extremely knowledgable in this field. His staff also is very kind & caring. As worried as I was to having implants, I was extremely satisfied . I would highly recommend Dr. Schmid & his staff if needing dental implants,

The nurses and doctor did wonderfully not only during the surgery but also keeping me comfortable before hand to calm my nerves. They were informative during the consultation and post surgery to make sure I knew how to take care of myself moving forward.

Not impressed on patient -doctor relationship. Duration of meeting was more important than understanding. Made recommendations without reading medical history. I would not recommend due to attitude of understanding patients concerns.

Not thrilled with my tooth extraction experience with Dr Schmid. Called later that day when bleeding didn't stop and had to leave voicemail. Call was returned about 45 min later. No follow up the next day. Dentist kept running back to other patients. Wouldn't use him again.

I was referred to Dr. Kim to handle some very challenging extractions. I told him the only thing I asked is to not feel any pain. I was completely pleased with the quality of a doctor that he is along with the wonderful staff at that practice. Other than pressure I felt nothing with only a local. Great talent and organization. This doctor was amazing! The building is clean the Doctor is not over a video call. All of the staff were very empathetic, professional, caring, and knowledgeable. They are not money hungry, they actually care for their patients! I have seen several oral surgeons in the past few months to treat me for an impacted wisdom tooth and this place tops them all!!!! If I could give them more than five stars I would. The doctor knows just what to say during surgery and how to make you comfortable. He explained everything he was doing and what to expect step by step. He offered pain medicine, special mouth wash and wished me well before I left. The staff even called the next day to check in me. The staff also emailed me a doctor's note for work so I didn't have to drive back to the office, how thoughtful. Highly recommend this oral surgeon office!!!
