Longbefore he ever earned the title of Doctor of Dentistry or the intricacies of periodontal techniques, Kevin Purviance knew the work was, literally, in his blood.As a boy, he walked down the stairs of his familys Glastonbury house to ask his father for permission to go fishing or visit friends. His dads family dental practice was on the houses first floor. And the boy, eventually, would come to experience the same rewards as his father: the satisfaction of solving the problems of others.
When Kevin Purviance graduated from UConns School of Dentistry, it was his father, Dr. David Purviance, who placed the ceremonial hood over him. The younger Purviance would go on to specialize in periodontal work, a field that had fascinated him since he did research work during his school years as an intern in Buffalo.
As Kevin explains (most of his patients call him that, rather than the more formal form of address that his father was accustomed to), I thought I would be like my dad -- open a general practice. That was the logical route -- I could stepright into his practice. But some of the research I was doing at UConn got me interested in periodontal disease. And once I Saw first hand how the effects of dental health impacted your over all health I was hooked on periodontal disease. started treating patients as a student there I knew this is the work I would enjoy most because thats where I could help people the most.
The idea of service to people was reinforced during his dental training when he went to Peru with fellow students. They spent time in the Amazon River basin, taking the boat daily upriver, stopping at villages to treat patients, many of whom had never seen a dentist. He remembers in a particular a little boy, about four years old. He was crying when he came in, and sitting with his mother. By the time Kevin finished with him, he felt he had learned how to win over even the most reluctant of patients.

I'm not one to usually write reviews, but I've had such a pleasant experience in the years I've been visiting the Purviance office that I wanted to share my compliments. I'm a 30 year old male who's been using their services for 5 years. I first saw Dr. Purviance for periodontal surgery and immediately felt at home. He's a personable guy who clearly knows what he's talking about and did good work on my gums. It was the little things that made a difference, like finding a blanket for me when I said I was cold and letting me bring my own music to lighten my nerves during surgery. I saw him for a second follow-up and had the same great experience. At the time I didn't have a primary dentist and learned that they offered regular cleanings, so I started seeing them bi-yearly. It was through those visits that I had the pleasure of getting to know the staff, and can honestly say that every single person is a kind soul and pleasure to interact with, from reception to accounting to the hygienists (ask for Pam!). I also felt a deeper clean after my appointments than I remember from my previous dentist. While I can't promise their pricing is competitive because I never shopped around, I'm very happy with the service I receive for the price I pay. As I move away from the area I'm genuinely upset that I have to find a new provider. I highly recommend Dr. Purviance to anyone looking for periodontal work or general cleanings!

Had a wonderful experience with Dr. Purviance. He's a caring and considerate doc, checks in several times how you're doing during the procedure. I had no pain. Has all the latest technology. He's very skilled at what he does, Has a great personality and a sense of humor too! Office staff are all kind caring people as well. Highly recommend him!

He is an amazing doctor, he listens to his patients and answers all the questions patiently. He keeps asking how the patient feels during the operation, and constantly gives inspiration during the surgery. Office staff are friendly, polite and helpful and gives the patient sufficient information.
