The disparities and similarities between the practice of a family dentist and a general dentist are often confused, partly because some of the services that both of them provide to patients also overlap.
General dentists may cater specifically to a certain age group whereas family dentists treat patients of all ages, including toddlers, children and teenagers. The treatment for every age group is different and varies quite a bit. They both can practice preventative and curative care and often do. A family dentist may be great for you if you have children but you may prefer to go to a general dentist. It is really a matter of how much you seem to click with your doctor and what your decision would ultimately be based upon their personalities and expertise. It is extremely important that you get along with your dentist so that you can feel comfortable going as much as twice a year.
