The Charles Evans Center (CEC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)* that provides integrated healthcare services at its Bethpage, Hauppauge and now Glen Cove locations. We provide care with excellence and compassion to historically underserved community members with limited incomes including those with autism, learning and developmental disabilities, and behavioral health concerns.

We focus on preventative healthcare to ensure healthy lifestyles and to minimize trips to hospital emergency rooms. CEC services are available to all community members and accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care, and private insurance plans.

CEC recently merged with the Melillo Center for Mental Health in Glen Cove, a health center with over 40 years of experience serving the community in the heart of Glen Cove. Renamed CEC at Glen Cove, the Center will continue to provide supports that include mental health clinic, outpatient chemical dependency outpatient services, assertive community treatment (ACT), supervised community residences, supported housing and respite housing.

The Charles Evans Center is licensed by the NYS Department of Health, the NYS Office of Mental Health and the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports and is supported by Nassau County Department of Human Services.

Anne Emmerson serves as Chairperson of the Charles Evans Center (CEC) and is an ex officio member of the Finance and Audit, Human Resources, and Quality Assurance and Compliance committees. Anne represents CEC on the Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc. (ACLD) Incident Review Committee. She also serves on the ACLD BOT and is currently a member of the ACLD Quality Services Committee. Anne is retired from her position as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Nassau Community College.

Peter A. Egan serves on the CEC Human Resources Committee. He is a Partner at Nixon Peabody, LLP. An experienced business attorney specializing in healthcare law and advising healthcare clients, Peters practice includes mergers and acquisitions and other complex business transactions, as well as regulatory and tax analysis, with a focus on the healthcare industry. Prior experience includes the position of Partner at Garfunkel Wild, P.C. and Senior Tax Consultant at Ernst & Young, LLP. He also serves as a member of the Development Board for the Hagedorn Little Village School, Jack Joel Center for Special Children.

Ronald M. Tauss serves as Chairperson of the CEC Finance and Audit Committee. Since 2004, Ronald is the driver coordinator for Wantagh FISH, a volunteer medical transportation service for senior citizens. He was a member of the Island Trees UFSD Board of Education from 1981-2004 where he served as a parent advocate and liaison to the Office of Special Education. During his tenure on the Island Trees board, he served various terms as president and vice president. Ronald is retired from Equitable Life where he managed health care applications systems development and project implementation.

Stefania Medvedik is a Registered Dietitian, Registered Nurse, and Certified Diabetes Educator who provides medical nutrition therapy to a diverse clientele, with an emphasis on community outreach and diabetes education. Stefania owns Simnutrition, a nutrition counseling and consulting firm based in Smithtown, New York. As part of her advocacy work, Stefania speaks at local and state conferences and is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Long Island Dietetic Association.Stefania serves on CECs Quality Assurance and Compliance Committee.

Robert C. Goldsmith serves on the Finance and Audit Committee. Bob is the former Executive Director of ACLD. Through Bobs vision and tireless effort, CEC opened its doors as a federally qualified health center on May 19, 2015. He is a passionate advocate and educator for people with developmental disabilities and special needs with more than 30 years of experience serving in the non-profit and business sectors. Prior to joining ACLD in June 2014, Bob was Associate Executive Director of AHRC Nassau. Before joining AHRC Nassau, he was Chief Operating Officer and Associate Executive Officer of AHRC New York City. Bob served as a member of the Board of Directors for AHRC NYC Chapter for 19 years and was one of the founding members of the AHRC New York City Foundation.

Nancy loves her coffee, dining out, Scratch-Off Games and going to Dollar Tree. She has a pet cat named Levi. Nancy volunteers at the Animal Lovers League animal shelter in Glen Cove. She loves watching sports in her spare time. Her favorite teams are the Mets and the Jets. Nancy also enjoys spending time with her family. She has lived in her Hicksville apartment since 1987.

Iris Rosenthal joined the CEC Board of Directors in 2017. Iris works part time at ACLD and provides office housekeeping services. She lives in East Meadow and enjoys interacting with her friends. Some of her favorite pastimes include visiting her brother and his family, shopping, spending time at the library, and taking continuing education courses at the local community college. Iris uses the services of CEC.

Robin Salsberg serves on the CEC Human Resources (HR) Committee. Robins portfolio includes strategic HR leadership in an extensive range of healthcare environments. She is an experienced human resources executive specializing in corporate-wide employee development initiatives, growth strategies and cost challenges.

Prior to her present position, Robin served as the Human Resources Director for the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, a 1000 employee non-profit international humanitarian aid rescue/relief organization. She and her team supported the employment needs of a culturally diverse global team stationed in 70-countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, the Former Soviet Union, Israel, Latin America and the United States.

Robin was at Winthrop-University Hospital for 17 years where she served in a number of capacities including Director of Training and Organizational Development and Director of Professional Development and Community Outreach. During her tenure at Winthrop, her responsibilities spanned organizational development, management coaching, recruiting, and career development for an organization with over 4,500 staff. Robin has also served as a lay leader on boards of academic institutions and non-profit agencies throughout Long Island.

Ellen Spiegel serves as Chairperson of the CEC Quality Assurance and Compliance Committee. She serves on the ACLD BOT and was President from 1991-1997. Ellen currently serves on the ACLD Trustee and Leadership Development Committee and the ACLD Human Resources Committee. Ellen is retired from her position as a math teacher in the Wantagh School District. Ellen has a son who resides in an ACLD community residence and uses the services of CEC.

Marianne B. Barbera joined the CEC Board of Directors in 2019 and serves on the CEC Quality Assurance and Compliance Committee. Marianne recently retired as a mathematics teacher in the Valley Stream North Junior/Senior High School. She holds a number of educational licenses and certifications and has extensive teaching, administrative, and professional development experience. To recognize her dedication and commitment to students and the teaching profession, she is the recipient of the Valley Stream PTSA Outstanding Educator Lifetime Award. Marianne is a vigorous advocate for people with Down syndrome, autism, and developmental disabilities. She is deeply involved in the research of early onset Alzheimers disease in people with Down syndrome. Marianne is the sister and guardian of a CEC patient.
