We are a health-focused, patient-centered dental practice. We are also holistically and biologically inclined in regards to the care that we offer. Holistic because we believe that the health of the mouth and our overall health cannot be separated. Biologic because we continually strive to find new and better ways to help individuals get and stay healthy, always seeking materials and techniques that are as biocompatible as possible while at the same time providing for durability, longevity, and conservatism. If patients are going to choose the foods they eat based on their nutritional value vs only those foods that they can chew, the chewing system is of critical importance.

We are health-focused because we work with an established model of health. We know that a healthy mouth has no infection or inflammation in the gum and bone tissue around the teeth, no cracks holes or openings in the teeth that can allow bacteria to enter the tooth, and a stable chewing system where the teeth, joints, muscles and bone work in harmony together. We work with our patients to the degree that they want to get healthy and help them achieve their goals. The great news is you dont have to be perfect. We just need to be moving toward wellness and stop the mouth from breaking down. Unlike traditional medicine, where symptoms are treated with little regard to the cause, we are focused on the cause of the problem as much as repairing it. This way when something is fixed it does not begin to break down again.

We are patient-centered because we put the patient in the middle and build the practice around them. We ask ourselves, what kind of practice would we like our families to come to and receive care, knowing what we know today? What has worked best is to put the patient first, team second, and the doctor third. The doctor cannot win unless the patient and team win first. This creates the triple win.

Since 2008, Dr. Bechtel has helped patients make the best decisions in their pursuit to become healthy, based on their goals and values. Utilizing the safest dental techniques and biocompatible materials, Dr. Bechtel works with each individual patient to improve overall well-being through sound oral health.

Our mission is to serve each patient and team member with Honesty, Integrity, Respect, and Compassion. We are dedicated to empowering our patients to take control of theirdental health, stop managing symptoms and prevent chronic illness in the mouth. We offer care that is Holistic and Biologic so as to connect the health of the mouth with the rest of the body through the use of materials and techniques that are minimally invasive and as biocompatible as possible.

I believe that each individual is divinely inspired and is therefore of infinite worth and hasunlimited potential. That being said, I also believe thathealth is of infinite value and it is achoice. My mission is to serve each one of our patients withHonesty, Integrity, Respect andCompassion. We are dedicated to empowering our patients to take control of their dentalhealth, stop managing symptoms and prevent chronic disease inthe mouth. Our goal is to offer excellence in Holistic and Biologic Care a low volume, private care environment that ischaracterized by individual relationships between myself, themembers of my team, and thepatient. These relationships are built on trust and shared goals. Holistic because the health of the mouth and the health of the body are connected and forever joined. They cannot be separated. Biologic, in that we continue to seek and find better ways to help individuals get and stay healthy utilizing materials and techniques that are biocompatible and provide longevity, durability, and are as minimally invasive as possible. I believe when givenaccurate information and the right support in a nurturing environment, people will makechoices that have a positive impact on their oral health.Through exploring the wants and the needs of the patient, wewill help co-discover and co-create a unique Master Plan, specific for that patient, whichwill MINIMIZE the amount ofdentistry the patient will need throughout their lifetime. Every person has the freedom tochoose the type of care that is going to be best for them. Preservation of the chewing system is critical if we are going to be able to choose the foods we eat based on their nutritional importance versus only choosing foods based on our ability to eat them. We want to help our patientsreach their goals!

Dental Health Coaching: A partnership in managing health, not disease. A dentist that listens to what you want for yourself and why, guides you to understand the benefits of health and supports your desire for change to get the results you want.

Integrity: To be honest, truthful, straightforward, and just and fair. Doing the right thing when no one else is watching, but knowing that God is watching and knowing you want to honor and love him with your decisions.

I became a dentist because I have always wanted to help others. Nothing makes me feel internally better, than when I can help someone else. It adds meaning to my life. As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a doctor. My standard answer as a child, when someone would ask me what I want to do when I grow up, was to be a doctor. When I was a kid I really loved working with my hands and I got into building models. I would love to build, and still have, all the model airplanes, and ships and tanks that I built. Something about that precision work really appealed to me. Dentistry allowed me to combine those two passions of mine into the perfect calling for me. I find it very gratifying to help get someone out of pain, or make a big change in someones appearance that allows them to smile again. I view all of my patients as my family and friends and my goal is to help all of them get to the level of oral health that they want.

As a dentist I want to do work that is meaningful, have fun, and earn a living fulfilling my passion. I believe strongly in continuing education because I think there is more I can learn and do to better help and serve my patients. Typically, I average more than 80 hours of continuing education a year.

My wife Stephanie and I have been married for 18 years and have two wonderful children, Josh and Elizabeth. My personal hobbies and interests include spending time with my family, boating, reading, traveling, biking, hiking, camping, fishing, cooking, and gardening. I am proud to have been born and raised in beautiful Grand Rapids Michigan.

Dr. Jonathan Bechtel has already become my favorite dentist after only one visit. And I have had many dentists over my 62 years of life! He is helping me to achieve my dream of amalgam filling removal, using the SMART method. He has been approved and certified by the IAOMT. He is a biological, holistic dentist who is sincerely interested in the total health and well being of his patients. God has been preparing me for this proactive dental plan for years and I cannot wait to get started!

The staff in the office are very nice. The office is clean and comfortable. The staff clearly let you know what insurance will cover and explain any procedures before they initiate them. At my last visit I had a cleaning with the hygienist. The hygienist used a new cleaning process where a cleaning solution was sprayed on my teeth with fairly high pressure. It was a horrible experience. A large amount of water was continually pooled at the back of my throat and the cleaning chemical was constantly splashing off my teeth onto my face. It got in my eyes and nose and was streaking down my neck. I felt like I was drowning the entire time. I had to ask to stop several times to catch my breath. The hygienist was patient and cleaned my last few teeth the old way. Still, the episode was so horrible, I had a nightmare about it. I also ended up with a rash on my face from the cleaning solution.

After a couple of years here I left in tears. In retrospect the writing was on the walls. There were too many times to count where I waited 30+ minutes after my appointment was scheduled. My husband went for a tooth extraction. They numbed him up and left him sitting in the chair for over an hour! I brought it up to staff and they were always understanding and apologetic, but could not really do much. I often felt like I was advocating for myself and like my concerns were just frusturating to the doctor. After a year of monthly visits to create a new partial I left in tears, without a new partial, unable to wear my old partial because new notches were cut into my teeth for the new partial that did not fit. Atleast I was not charged for the failure - I guess I can say that was good. I left there in a worse position than when I had come.

I saw a new dentist today and had an awesome experience. Dr. Jonathan Bechtel on Jolly Road provided excellent care and gave a detailed explanation regarding my dental needs. He examined me thoroughly for any problems that needed attention. He and his staff were professional, caring, and knowledgeable. They use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques. The hygienist was thorough and gentle. She also provided information on how to keep my pearly whites clean and healthy. I highly recommend Dr. Bechtel and his team.

I just received my first bill from Dr Bechtel's office which contained two billing errors. The new Billing Manager was not willing to work directly with my insurance company regarding a billing discrepancy. As a result, I had to call the insurance company myself (two consecutive days) and ended up paying money to Dr Bechtel's office that I do not owe. Now I have to figure out how to upload the claim the Billing Manager e-mailed to me into the insurance company's website because the Billing Manager was not willing to re-send it directly to the insurance company. The insurance company would not allow me to forward the e-mail to them. I have canceled my scheduled appointments with Dr Bechtel and will have to find a dentist office that is willing to work directly with my insurance company. This is definitely MY LOSS, because Dr Bechtel is a 5-Star dentist. _________________ I showed up a few minutes early for my visit today and had an opportunity to hear other patients in the reception area talk about their wonderful experiences with Dr Bechtel. I was referred by a friend who had nothing but wonderful things to say. Dr. Bechtel is warm, friendly, patient, professional and caring. He goes WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND to provide excellent dental care. EVERYONE on his staff is the same way. One of the men in the lobby had tears running down his cheeks into his face mask as he described the time his daughter fell and broke her tooth. He didn't have dental insurance and he didn't have a dentist. A friend of this patient called Dr Bechtel, who made himself available on a Saturday (when his office was closed) to help complete strangers. I am looking for a new apartment, and the first thing I look at is how far I will have to travel to get to Dr Bechtel's office.

I don't really like dentist visits although I believe 6 month cleanings are really important. And.... this staff is so excellent, there are no worries about that part of the visit. In a 1-10 rating they are totally off the charts with their expertise and kind treatment of their patients

I had root scaling and planing today. The office checked with my insurance and were able to do everything in one appointment, rather than two. I really appreciated that, as I'm going on vacation and didn't want to have to wait a long time to be able to get in for a second appointment.
