Dr. John Schmid opened Contemporary Cosmetic Dentistry in 2001 after spending nearly a decade in a busy, insurance-driven dental practice. With the goal of offering individual attention to each of his patients, Dr. Schmid has created a patient-focused, personalized practice that is centered around providing exceptional services intended to address all of your smile's needs.
Dr. Schmid received his Bachelor of Science degree from Angelo State University in Angelo, Texas. Remaining in the Lone Star State, Dr. Schmid continued his education, receiving his Doctorate in Dental Science (DDS) from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. From there, he went on to study Advanced Anterior Aesthetics, Comprehensive Aesthetic Reconstruction, Neuromuscular Occlusion, Full Mouth Reconstruction, and Neuromuscular Coronoplasty at the world-renowned Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.
His extensive training and years of experience allow Dr. Schmid to address cosmetic dental problems in addition to providing general dentistry services, customized TMJ treatments, adult orthodontics, dental implants and more, making Contemporary Cosmetic Dentistry a one-stop-shop for all of your dental needs.
Dr. Schmid has lived in Austin for 15 years and is proud to be raising his children Molly, Lola, and Joaquin in our lovely city. Dr. Schmid strongly believes in community involvement and, in the spirit of Austin, has volunteered at the Manos de Cristo Dental Clinic, a full-service dental clinic that serves the needs of the underprivileged members of our city.

I couldn't love coming to the dentist more! The front office ladies are always so kind and organized. They have a caring smart dental assistant. Dr Schmid is as good as it gets in every way!

I've been going here for years. Dr. Schmid is awesome, as is all of the staff. They have seen me for dental emergencies and even given my Dr. Schmid's mobile number for emergency follow-up. They point is, they care and go out of their way for their patients.

From my first call with this office, I felt empathy, patience, and care while speaking to Bobbi about my dental needs. Upon meeting Dr. Schmid, I immediately felt at ease. Not easy for me as I have an aversion to dentists and experience anxiety. Dr. Schmid was and is always very soothing, attentive, and reassuring, not overbearing and salesy. He has replaced 5 veneers, did 1 implant, and 1 onlay and is now doing my regular dental work and cleanings. I could not be happier with the service, patient care, and stunning results. Oddly, even when their busy I feel like I am the only patient. Now when talking about my dentist I start off by saying that I finally found the perfect dentist and office. I highly recommend Dr. Schmid and his entire team. And I love the music selection.

Dr. Schmid is amazing! I highly recommend him to anyone looking to transform their smile with beautiful, natural-looking cosmetic dentistry. I originally went to Dr. Schmid 15 years ago... not too long after he was out of dental school. He was my family's dentist and I was super impressed with his innovative, dental skills and superior patient compassion and care. I was very apprehensive about having extensive cosmetic dentistry done on my upper teeth, but trusted Dr. Schmid with the job. Throughout the entire process, he was extremely engaged, gave me options, and helped me understand what to expect. Bobbi was a dream to work with as well. Her flexibility and desire to please made traveling to/from Austin for appointments easy and one less thing to worry about. Bobbi's sunny personality and compassion made each visit a pleasure! Any time I called the office, Bobbi took time with me and didn't make me feel rushed. My overall experience was incredible! I love my new smile and it's so natural that, although people notice that something is different, they don't realize it's my cosmetic dentistry...which is exactly what i wanted! My fiancee went to this dentist a few days ago for brand new TMJ pain. She hadn't been able to eat soft foods, talk or smile. We decided that $200 would be well spent to get some relief and a treatment plan. In the end he just checked her bite and told her to go to a chiropractor. She felt robbed and held back tears as she walked out because she felt helpless. If someone came to me for a consult and I couldn't do anything for them I wouldn't charge them or I would at least heavily reduce the cost. $200 down the drain.

I went in for a dental cleaning, and they were extremely professional, and thorough. They also inquired about any sensitivity before starting, and happily offered to number my gums, so that I wouldn't feel any pain.

Very grateful to have found Dr Schmid. They do very high quality work here, the office runs super smoothly, and they provide an exceptional level of pain management and patient management. As someone with both gingivitis as well as severe dentophobia, I really appreciate their patient-focused care.

It doesn't get better than Dr.Schmid and his practice. I've been to 4-5 dentist over my life. I never felt great about what I was being told by other doctors. What the cavity I was being told I had really a cavity?If the dentist wanted to sell it to you they could how would you know. That has never been the case here at John's practice. Thank you for your honesty, friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere and truly caring!

After seeing the very detailed information about TMJ disorder on the website I was hopeful that I would receive quality care and my concerns would be taken into consideration. The consultation did not feel thorough at all. Basically, I paid $200 to get told I need to come back for a $600+ night guard and to see a specific chiropractor for posture. I've been seeing a chiropractor for my TMD and posture for over three years. At least put the $200 towards the night guard or offer a more thorough consultation. Unfortunately, I won't be returning and will continue looking relief elsewhere.

Jack has been my dentist for a good long time now. It truly has been a pleasure to visit him and his staff each time since the beginning. When I worked out of town in Maryland and Virginia, I can truthfully say that seeing the calendar showing that soon I would need to plan a trip to return to Austin for an appointment was something I happily anticipated. Local news and fishing stories were a part of it too. It has been many years now. Consider that I speak with the authority of experience when I heartily recommend Jack and his staff to every possible client.

I first visited Dr Schmid for cosmetic dentistry 12 years ago. Dr Schmid was so great I quickly made him my general dentists as did my husband and kids.
