Dr. John Burkett completed his undergraduate work at the University of Maryland College Park in 1985 before moving on to study dentistry at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland at Baltimore, and earned his doctorate in dental surgery in 1989. After working as an associate dentist in Elkton, Maryland for three years, Dr. Burkett and his wife opened Burkett & Burkett, DDS, PA in 1992. He works hard to stay abreast of the latest advances in dental care and participates in regular continuing education seminars and symposiums. It is because of his dedication to improvement and growth in a variety of technologies, treatments, and procedures that our dental patients receive the most modern, efficient, and effective general and restorative dental care available.

Dr. Burkett is active in his community as a member of the Salisbury Rotary Club since 1993, where he has served as President, Secretary, Seargent at Arms, and on its board of directors. He is a four time Paul Harris Fellow, and was awarded the rotarian of the year award in 1998. He is also past president of the Eastern Shore Dental Society, and has served also in its house of delegates, and as trustee to the Maryland State Dental Association.

John contributes to huminatarian causes, both here in Salisbury and abroad. A fluent spanish speaker, Dr. Burkett travels yearly to remote areas of developing countries in Central America to provide free dental care to the indigenous population, and was awarded theInternational Humanitarian Award by the American Dental Association. In addition, in 2011 Rotary International inducted him as a Guatemala Literacy Fellow, which promotes literacy in that country as a means of escaping poverty.

Dr. Burkett is a member of the American Dental Association, the American College of Prosthodontists, and the Academy of Osseointegration. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her twin daughters, and showing off her artistic talents by designing and decorating elaborate cakes. However, her greatest passion is horseback riding and dressage on her beloved horse Gia.
