As a child, I watched a friend of my family become a dental hygienist. I already admired her heart and her joy in life, so when I saw how satisfied she was in her career I decided this must be the path to my calling as well. Little did I know just how much was in store for me on my journey!When I entered college, and began my science/biology prerequisites for dental hygiene, one of my favorite professors pulled me aside and encouraged me to broaden my horizons beyond dental hygiene.
It had never occurred to me before then thatIcould bethe dentist! Maybe you can relate to having one of those eye-opening, life-changing moments, too. It seemed like those around me could see my potential, but for the first time I felt the fullness of the change I am here to create in the world.
Wow!That day a new world was opened to me as I began to see the possibilities for my gifts to help others in an even bigger way.Applying to dental schools (which are some of the most difficult to get into!) was a nerve-wracking process filled with a whole lot of waiting. When I was accepted into the University of Michigan Dental School, it hit me this is real!
While at the U of M Dental School, I became involved in the Scholars Program for Dental Leadership and had the privilege of participating in several outreach programs for the under-served both locally and in Guyana, South America. Every smile I was able to serve and transform became even more fuel for my passion to help support others in whole-life and whole-body health through oral care.
So many people have deep negative associations with dentistry, oral exams, and receiving dental work. Every time I am able to support someone through releasing their fears and creating a new experience in my work - I light up knowing that my patients are feeling truly seen, heard, and cared for.
Upon graduating from the University of Michigan Dental School, I made a year detour back to our hometown in California. But oh how I missed Michigan!When I discovered a dental practice available in Battle Creek, I went all-in to make the move and transition back to Michigan. I am so happy to call Michigan home again and raise my family here.I love exploring nature through the seasons with my children. Outside of work I love sharing the adventures of life withmy family, painting, reading, dancing, playing softball, and eating really great food!My dental philosophy is one that encompasses whole-life health and happiness: I believe that dentistry should improve the overall health of an individual and I am passionate about creating excellence in my family dentistry practice.

I love Dr. Cosner. She has gotten me into the office right away when I had a dental emergency and she is a natural dentist who doesn't push mercury fillings. She is always pleasant and doesn't mind answering questions about procedures.

I love this office! All of the staff is welcoming and friendly, and always answer my questions. Dr Cosner herself is fantastic with kids, very patient and compassionate. I love that she discusses everything and cares about treating the person as a whole. They truly go above and beyond to be friendly, accomodating, etc etc. My kids love going to the dentist! I also love that they are exploring more treatment options that help long term health and overall wellbeing. The only downside I would say is paying out of pocket and insurance reimburses. Sometimes that can be difficult. But some insurances are better than others and they are really up front with that cost and try to be as cost effective as possible. We drive over an hr to see them and are grateful for the care recieved!

I have been going to this office since I had teeth basically like 1985. They have always been amazing. Linda at the front desk, super kind and knowledgeable. Dr Cosner...it is kind of scary getting a new dentist. Several years ago when the previous dentist moved on, I had my reservations about Dr Cosner, but she is incredible. She has your best interest at heart. She has high standards for dentistry. She is so sweet with everyone but especially kids and those who are anxious about coming. Jan, you're a rock star. Super gentle hygienist. Kayla, if I remembered your name right. I can't say enough! You are very knowledgeable for being so young. You are so amazingly patient and considerate and gentle. You made our visit so pleasant. I was so scared my daughter was going to never come back but instead she has vowed only you and Dr Cosner can touch her. Now they have Sara at the desk and she so sweet and helpful as well. I am so glad she joined your team.

I don't want to sound too dramatic, but I had nothing but problems with dentists before coming here. I first came in for an emergency visit when I needed a tooth pulled because I hadn't received any dental treatment in years. I avoided dentists because no work I'd had done ever improved anything. Instead it just accelerated the degradation of my teeth. As an example, in the span of about a year the tooth I had pulled had previously been filled, then refilled 3 times, then root canaled and capped by a previous dentist because it never stopped hurting when it had never hurt before the initial filling. In fact, every composite filling I'd ever had done started or continued hurting, and most of them broke-sometimes within days. Not only that, I had never in my life been numb for a dental procedure. I don't know if the others thought I just had a low pain tolerance or something, but that deep, burning ache when they drill or pull is not "pressure." I honestly feel my teeth would be in better condition if I'd never gone to any of the other dentists I have, because a cavity would probably have taken years to remove the amount of tissue I lost each time I had a filling that then failed. I have spent nearly 15 years almost always having some kind of ache, pain with chewing, or sensitivity. But here, when my tooth was pulled, I was numb for the first time for any dental procedure. It was an entirely different experience from any of the others. Dr. Cosner took the time to give me several shots and try them at different angles before feeling confident I was numbed. Previously, the only relief I'd found from broken composites and hot/cold sensitivity was in the few amalgam fillings I'd received, probably because they are less brittle. For that reason it was discouraging for me to find out this office doesn't provide them, but I decided to at least try one of their composites. I got that only a few days ago but it already seems like a huge improvement over the others. For one thing, there is almost no temperature sensitivity despite it being a large repair. Two, and probably the most important, I do not feel it hitting on a high spot when I bite. I think those high contact points on my previous composites were the main reason for my issues in the past, so I feel optimistic that this one will hold. For the first time since I was a teenager I feel like I may actually be able to get my teeth back to where they need to be.

Great experience! The staff and Dr. Javana were fantastic. It's a breath of fresh air to know you're in good hands. Dr.Javana even took the time to explain to my eleven year old daughter what she was doing and why. Thank you so much!

I came to Dr Cosner & team highly recommended by my primary physician and I have not been disappointed! Her professionalism and time taken to gain keen insight into my overall health concerns and goals instilled confidence and trust. I came away uderstanding the how and why of my treatment options + practical ways to improve my smile from the inside out...all leading up to a most satisfying experience. If you can get in to see Dr Cosner it's well worth the wait!

She has treated me on several occasions for crowns and replacement of old mercury fillings that have cracked without too much pain or anxiety on my part. She goes in and gets out rather quickly, so I can get back to work. I feel safe in their hands no matter what.
