In addition to graduating from the highly respectedIndiana UniversitySchool of Dentistry, OSOs Dr. Coates and Dr. DeWitt have each completed a rigorous oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program. These programs consist of 4-6 years of hospital based surgical and medical training in disciplines such as general surgery, head and neck surgery, plastic surgery, internal medicine, anesthesiology, pathology, and, of course, oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Both Dr. Coates and Dr. DeWitt are certified as Diplomates of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS)for successfully completing both a written exam and a rigorous oral examination after residency. This board certification demonstrates their commitment to deliver the highest level of care totheir patients.
Highly recognized among their colleagues in the medical field, Dr. Coates and Dr. DeWitt maintain full privileges at Franciscan Alliance Hospitals, and are on call with the emergency departments for the treatment of maxillofacial trauma and infections.
Dr. Jason A. DeWitt grew up in Tipton, Indiana. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology-Chemistry from Manchester University. He then received his masters degree in Physiology from Ball State University graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. In 2003, he was awarded his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.)from Indiana University School of Dentistry.
During dental school, he was awarded the AAOMS Student Award for his outstanding achievement and performance. He completed his four-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2007 at Indiana University School of Medicine with surgical rotations at Riley, Methodist, University and Wishard (now Eskenazi Health) Hospitals.
Dr. DeWitt is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. DeWitt lives in West Lafayette with his wonderful wife and his four children.
