Dr. James Butler, also known as Jimbob, grew up in Huntington, West Virginia. He attended Marshall University, receiving his bachelors degree in Biological Sciences. Upon completion of his degree, he attended West Virginia University School of Dentistry and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery. While at Marshall University, he married Lynn Morris. The Butlers returned to Huntington because of their love for the area and purchased a dental practice on 3rd Avenue. The building on 29th Street that houses the current practice was constructed in 2004. Dr. Butlers wife, Lynn, is the owner of Setzers World of Camping, also located in Huntington. They have been blessed with three children: Eric, Amy, and Julie. Eric was a Yeager Scholar at Marshall University, has his Ph.D. in philosophy from Villanova, and is currently attending the University of Indiana Law School. Amy is a Marshall University graduate and the finance manager at Setzers World of Camping. Julie is a nurse practitioner for Dr. Pinson. Dr. Butler and Lynn also have a very active grandson, Asa, who may be the youngest Marshall fan ever; that is, until their granddaughter is born this fall!

Dr. Butler is a member of several dental organizations including: American Dental Association, West Virginia Dental Association, Huntington Dental Society, and Huntington Continuing Education Study Club. He received an Associate Fellowship within the World Clinical Laser Institute.

Dr. Butler also acts as the team dentist for Marshall athletes. When not treating patients, he can usually be found on the golf course. He is a member of the Big Green Board and the Big Green Executive Committee. He attends many Herd sporting events throughout the year. His love for Marshall University is shown throughout the dental office with the numerous items of memorabilia he has collected.

Efficient, friendly, thorough, and quick service, but not so quick that I felt like they didn't care. The hygienist was very personable, and so was Dr. Roberson. So glad I made the switch to them!

Great team of dental professionals. Low/no pain dentistry and easy to work with. Great for the community. Can be tough to get an appointment due to lack of Friday hours.

My family and I have been going to Dr. Jim Butler since he took over the business some 30 years ago. Our experience has always been positive and the treatment we receive has been first class. I have recommended them to my friends and family. The atmosphere has always been pleasant and friendly.

My family has been going to this dental office for 16 years. They were recommended by my brother when we moved to town. They are polite and friendly. Our dental hygienist, Sharon, is the greatest. We love her! The dentists are knowledgeable, caring, and fun guys.

Nice office and staff. Only had cleanings so far but it's been a good experience. Friendly staff and easy to have a casual conversation with them while they work.

I am appalled by how I'm treated out by this place as a new customer I went in for my first visit today I could not get there early cuz they claim that they're having problems with their paperwork system I filled out my paperwork online and supposedly they did not get my paperwork so also I was confirmed by someone that my appointment was at 2:45 they square that it was at 2:30 so I would not be seen and the fact of the paperwork matter is I asked them if I supposedly been on time at 2:30 which I thought my appointment was at 2:45 well if my paperwork didn't was that mean I'm going to not be seen because my paperwork wasn't filled out because their computer system is faulty anyway so I don't recommend going here at all horrible horrible and when I spoke to this office manager she acted like it was no big deal so not even concerned with the new patient

BEWARE...BE INFORMED! I called to make an appointment as a new patient. I went on line, as requested by this office, to save the so-called-TWO hours early arrival if I did NOT fill out their on-line forms (according to the receptionist) This was NOT true. Anyone with a H.S. education could do it under 20 minutes...but being a team player, I did as she asked. I also did the follow-up call she requested to "make sure we got it" [quote unquote] and she stated it did arrive. I arrived early and didn't mind the wait since it was pouring rain with more coming, plus I had reading to catch up on. As my appointment time approached a dental tech came out and informed me, that for me to get a cleaning and an exam they insist that I take a series of ANITBIOTICS!!!! "Why?" I asked. "Because you had a hip replacement back in early 2016." She replied. (It's now 2022). She also asked if she could call the surgeon from back then to ask if HE was okay with me getting my teeth cleaned? I could not believe what I was hearing. Did I miss something? I grabbed my phone after giving her permission to call a surgeon from 2016 to see if this "prerequisite policy" was listed on their web site. NO it was NOT! When the tech returned after my long wait, she said the Dr. from 2016 didn't call them back (duh). She ask if they could do the x-rays anyway? I answered her question with a question: "Since your office confirmed a few days ago that they did indeed receive my medical history, did it not seem like common courtesy to you, for our community and fellow man, to make a simple courtesy call and save me from coming out in down pour and wasting 45 minutes?" She just said a curt: "Sorry, but we can still do the x-rays, if you like?" I declined. I'm not sure what their hidden agenda is?... but they need to find another way besides their over-use of antibiotics through a ridiculous excuse that it was because I had a joint replacement 6 (almost 7) years ago so they needed to give me pills to take for several days before my teeth can be cleaned. I'm a super clean person who takes pride in my dental health and KNOW that it couldn't be an issue...(I'm sure they see people who they wish could gargle in bleach. I am not one of those). I felt very "strong armed" when they don't have their Ludacris policy published on their site (wonder why?).. nor did they call after receiving my medical history when they had ample time in which to do so. Wonder what the drug company perks are for them in this fiasco? The reason they even got 2 stars on this review is: The nice fish aquarium and having they're acting abilities down pat...even though they are 1000 ft. deep and 2 inches wide with their concern for the community.

Dr. Butler and the staff are great. He is very kind and straight forward. I've not personally been a patient of Dr. Hoke, but I've heard good things about her as well.
