Dr. J. Douglas Thran attended Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania where he was a two-time All American swimmer, captain of the varsity swim team and earned a BS in Biology. He completed his dental education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, graduating as a member of the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society with a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.

Upon graduation, Dr. Thran entered the United States Navy as a Dental Officer and Lieutenant,and was elected president of the Great Lakes Dental Society.Leaving the Navy, he entered the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied post doctoral Orthodontics; earned a certificate in Orthodontics and received an award for Outstanding Clinical Design on his research project.

Shortly after completing his specialty training in Orthodontics, heopened his practice in Clarks Summit, Pa.while remaining in the United States Navy Reserve for severaladditional yearswhere he attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After several more years of intense preparation and study hesuccessfully completedtreatment of complex orthodontic cases and presentedthem totheBoard. The American Board of Orthodontics granted him membership as a Diplomate to the AmericanBoard of Orthodontics.
