Although all dentists, including your family dentist, receive training in dental school in endodontic (root canal) treatment, a patient may be referred to an endodontic (root canal) specialist. Endodontists are dentists that have received at least an additional two years of advanced specialty training in the art of Endodontics, commonly known as 'Root Canal'.
In a root canal specialist's office we have surgical operating microscopes. Surgical operating microscopes allow for greater visualization with magnification and fiber optic light sources. This increased visualization is critical for finding tiny infected root canals or diagnosing the extent of a fracture.
We also have 3D digital CBCT (Cone Bean Computed Tomography) technology. This CBCT technology derived from innovative medical imaging technology allows an endodontist to have a digitally reconstructed 3D representation of the tooth and jaw bone. This greatly enhances the endodontist's ability to diagnose and treat your tooth. Traditional 2D digital radiography is still used and has an important place in treatment.
There are many reasons for a referral. Endodontists perform routine as well as difficult and very complex endodontic procedures, including endodontic retreatment, surgery and endodontic regeneration. Endodontists are also experienced in determining some causes of oral facial pain.
By choosing to save your tooth with root canal treatment, you are taking a big step towards better oral health. We know today that better oral health leads to better overall health. A properly restored tooth that has had root canal treatment can last as long as any other tooth. You need to only continue to practice good overall oral hygiene to preserve it. That means twice daily brushing and flossing, regular check ups with your dentist and cleanings.
Our office team receives annual OSHA updates and training. We adhere to the strictest levels of infection control to protect you. Each team member has acquired the Dental Assisting National Board certification in both Infection Control and Radiation Health and Safety. As members of the American Dental Assisting Association, updated coursework is completed annually.
You may also notice that in lieu of soap and water we use waterless antimicrobial hand gels. We have adopted this recommendation in our practice simply because the CDC has determined that hand gels kill more microorganisms than traditional hand washing.

Dr. Wong is an angel on earth. I had an urgent visit for a root canal with I called and the office was able to accommodate me within two hours, and a root canal was performed within a half an hour of my arrival. The pain I was in was indescribable, and agonizing. I am so appreciative of Dr. Wong and her team for relieving my pain so quickly, she walked me through the process every step of the way, and ensured that I was feeling optimal comfort throughout the whole procedure. I CANNOT thank her enough, I will always return to Dr. Wong for ANY endodontic care that I may need.

Just had a root canal with Dr Wong. Despite pre-conceived notions about "root canals" I must say it was a very pleasant experience. The whole staff is professional welcoming and efficient. I cannot give them a high enough recommendation. As Tina Turner sang; "Simply The Best"!

I have had 2 root canals done with Dr. Wong. I just had one finished today and I can not say enough good things about the practice and her. She is so soft spoken, sweet and thorough. I felt so safe and calm with her. I have a huge fear of pain from dental work so this is a big thing for me. Both root canals were done professionally and with no pain. The entire staff is very calming and has great bedside manner as well. Melanie, the receptionist, is very nice and super helpful. If you need any work done I highly recommend Dr. Wong.

Saw Dr. Wong today for root canal the worse experience in my life. As a child I developed extreme fear due to old fashioned dentists and buying hurt by them. This office worries more about credit cards on file than patients. Not once was I asked if I have any hears .... Dr. Wong treated me with no respect nor care of me being deadly afraid. At some point I just left. It took me years to get over my fear of dentist, and she destroyed that in 10 min. Please do not believe that they specialize in patients with fear, nor do they care.

I had a root canal exactly 3 days ago, performed by Dr. Wong. And I have had zero pain since! I had more pain before the procedure itself than anything that happened while I was getting the root canal or after. I cannot recommend Dr. Wong and all of the staff at Fairfield Endodontics enough! There is no where else to go!

Dr. Wong is the BEST - I was nervous as I had never had a root canal. Dr. Wong explained everything she was doing as she worked. I had no discomfort during the procedure and what was more important was that I had NO pain after the procedure. The office even called the next day to see how I was doing. I would never go to anyone else. She is simply OUTSTANDING.

Dr. Wong charged me a few hundred dollars only for her to put on a temporary filling so I could have my tooth pulled. Her receptionist needs to take a course on how to talk to people. Very rude and extremely unprofessional. She's not the first face I would want to see walking into an office only because she has no couth!

I had to get an emergency root canal. Dr. Wong was recommended to me through a friend. I was scared to go because I was in so much pain. She took me right away as an emergency patient and I am so glad she did. She is the very best!! She is intelligent, professional, skillful and compassionate. She makes sure you are comfortable. When I saw my dentist for a follow-up, she told me that she also goes to Dr. Wong because she is the best! So, what better recommendation can you get than that?! I know why she only has a few reviews, it's because we are all busy and forget to do them and time goes by and we just leave it be. But I had to do this because root canals are a big deal and you need to know who to go to. Go to Dr. Irene Wong in Stamford, CT. You will be glad you did.
