The thought of a root canal may make you fearful or uneasy if you arent familiar with the procedure. There are common misconceptions that endodontic treatments such as root canals, cause pain and/or illness and should be avoided at all costs. The exact opposite is true. The pain, inconvenience and cost of avoiding endodontic treatment in favor of tooth extraction or a wait-and-see approach can be easily avoided. The longer you postpone treatment the more you risk the chance to save your tooth. Take the time to read the information on our website to find out what endodontists do to save teeth with minimal time and discomfort. Then address any remaining concerns or questions with your dentist or endodontist.

Decades ago that may have been the case, but with modern technology and anesthetics you wont experience any more pain than if you went to have a cavity filled. The pain from a severe toothache, often caused by damaged tissues in the tooth, can be easily remedied when an endodontist removes the damaged tissue through root canal treatment. In addition, endodontists are experts in pain management, and most cases can be treated quickly and comfortably.

Information you may find on the Internet or elsewhere, claiming that if you receive a root canal treatment youre more likely to become ill or contract a disease in the future simply isnt true. This false claim was based on long-debunked and poorly designed research conducted nearly a century ago, long before modern medicine understood the causes of many diseases. There is no valid, scientific evidence linking root canal treatment to disease elsewhere in the body.

Saving your natural teeth, if possible, is always the best option. Nothing artificial can replace the look or function of a natural tooth so its important to always consider root canal treatment as an option. Endodontic treatment has a high success rate and many root canal-treated teeth last a lifetime. Replacing an extracted tooth with a bridge or implant requires more time in treatment and may result in further procedures to neighboring teeth and supporting tissue.

Absolutely wonderful experience - and who would ever say that about a root canal?! I was super anxious going in (had never had one before) ... Dr. Gutentag and Kristen put me at ease, we're very patient and handled my anxiety with care. The best part: I felt no pain whatsoever, and actually left with a smile on my face. I highly recommend this practice!

My son was in excruciating pain for over a week. His own dentist misdiagnosed him, not once, but twice! First he said the xray didn't show anything, the pain was from grinding his teeth. Then went back and said it was his wisdom tooth. Had the wisdom tooth removed and the pain was only more intensified. Went back again and was treated like he was crazy! That's when we found Dr. Gutentag!! Thank God for this man. He fit him in last minute before Memorial Day weekend. He knew immediately that it was the molar in front of the wisdom tooth. He said immediately he knew he needed a root canal and would not let him leave his office in any pain. He was so compassionate, and sympathetic. He showed my son so much patience and empathy. It literally brown me to tears. He took his time and explained every detail of what he was doing. This man is a Godsend!! I am so grateful that when everyone else was turning us away and making him feel like he was crazy, this man took the time to listen and fix the problem. Then he called that night, and the next two mornings to make sure he wasn't in pain anymore. Words cannot express my gratitude!! His office staff was amazing as well! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!

Dr. Gutentag is a hero. I am a fellow dentist and he got me in as an emergency within 10 minutes of my call. I had bitten into a sandwich and broke a living tooth exposing my nerve. Now I know what real pain is. Thank you so much again. You are the best.

Dr. Gutentag was awesome! He didn't decide to do a root canal on my tooth right away. Instead he tried a temporary filling to see if that would help subside my tooth pain. It definitely did help but I ultimately needed a root canal. I appreciate that he at least tried a more conservative approach before performing a root canal right off the bat. The root canal was painless. As others have stated, he is super thorough and explains every single thing he's doing and why. I think that's so important as a patient! His staff was also super nice and professional. Very clean office and COVID precautions were taken seriously.

Dr. Gutentag is one of the best doctors of any kind I have ever been lucky enough to receive care from. He is thorough, keeps you informed every step of what he does, explains the whys of treatment which I appreciate a lot. The followup was exceptional after the treatment. My experience with root canals dates back 30+ years, and it was very painful. This experience was drastically better, partly due to the technological advances, but I think also due to Dr. Gutentag's exceptional care. I would not hesitate to undergo this treatment again if needed. What a gift he is.

The most amazing dental experience I've ever had! From the kind staff to the quickness they fit me in. Dr Gutentag was so amazing. He was kind and patient with me I was very apprehensive and was feeling serious pain in a root canal that was done by someone else in another dental practice. He was so thorough and found it to be a simple fix. I was so relieved I didn't need a new root canal or extraction which is what I was told from a different dentist. I'm so glad I got a second opinion and went to him. I would HIGHLY recommend this practice. I truly felt like he cared about my well being and made sure I didn't leave until I was comfortable and feeling no pain.

I had a very good experience with Dr Gutentag. I went here because I was in excruciating pain for 3 nights and the dr where I was scheduled for a root canal couldn't get me in sooner. I would have to wait 5 more days. I called this office and they quickly fit me in as an emergency. He was so kind. He took his time and explained everything he was doing. He kept asking if I was in any pain, if I was comfortable. I really appreciated his concern with my comfort. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or to return here if I needed to. I had a pain free night. He called me that evening to check on me. His office staff called this morning to check on me. Thank you Dr. Gutentag and staff!!

I had such a great experience with Dr. Gutentag. I recently moved to the area and had been having a lot of tooth pain. The dentist I found and saw recommended me to Dr. Gutentag for a root canal. It's important to note that I am absolutely terrified of the dentist, but I ended up having fun while there! I know that sounds crazy, but Dr. Gutentag was very understanding of my anxiety with dentists and did everything he could do to make me feel completely comfortable and relaxed. I didn't feel any pain during the procedure and only minor discomfort the day of. The office called me a few hours after I had left the office, but I missed their call, so they called me the next day just to check in with how I was feeling. The next time you need a root canal, and you're as freaked out by the dentist as I was, see if Dr. Gutentag has availability!
