Dr. Harter is highly focused on providing the latest in non-invasive treatment protocols for treating children and adults for sleep disordered breathing, sleep apnea(ADHD/ADD in children) TMJ disorders, Chronic pain and headaches. He continually attends educational programs to learn the best techniques to deliver treatments that solve the problem by getting to the core issue at hand. He is a member of the TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre International, Academy of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry, and the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain.
Dr. Thomas Harter is passionate about treating TMJ, sleep therapy and chronic pain conditions. Having experienced all three conditions himself, he has now dedicated his life and career to helping his patients overcome them.
Dr. Thomas Harter, DMD, received his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1990 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He completed a general practice residency in 1991 from Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. In 2012 and 2013, Dr. Harter completed seven residencies in TMJ, sleep and chronic pain. In addition, he continues in specialized courses for these treatments, accumulating hundreds of hours perfecting treatment protocol.
Before opening his own practice, Dr. Thomas Harter, DMD, served the US Navy at Camp Lejeune North Carolina from 1991-1994 and was honored to hold the position of Dental Officer in charge of the Fleet patrolling the Mediterranean Ocean, taking care of over 2,500 Navy personnel. Since 2012, Dr. Harter then practiced general dentistry in the private sector and has focused on TMJ, sleep disordered breathing and chronic pain solutions for his patients.
Dr. Harter relocated to North Central Florida to be closer to family. He hopes to start a family soon and enjoy all the beauty that Florida provides. Most importantly, Dr. Harter looks forward to providing his patients with the care that allows them to reach their maximum potential.

Dr Harter and his staff were awesome! He has a passion for his trade and stays on top of newer technology / techniques to ensure the best treatment for his patients. The support staff on his team were welcoming and informative from scheduling as a new patient all the way through the visit and scheduling a follow-up. I felt comfortable throughout the whole initial visit. They do not accept insurance, but I feel it helped to eliminate the confusion of in or out of network coverages with the insurances. They broke down the cost per procedure before they performed anything and made sure I approved of the treatment plan and costs associated. Dr Harter spent more time with me than many dentists I've been to previously and explained his plan of care in detail. For me, everything went smoothly and I would definitely highly recommend Dr. Harter and his staff!

Dr. Harter's skill as a dentist is unsurpassed, but what really differentiates him from other dentists I've visited in the past is he cares about your health. My wife and I found Dr Harter after she had very bad experiences with other denist who just kept recommending her to others in the denistry circle. Finally, we found Dr Harter who helped eliminate most of her pain. He also capped a tooth for me when others were recommending an extraction and an implant (which would have been several $K's). Several years later, we still consider Dr Harter the only denist we will see and don't care if he accepts insurance. It pays to see the best. His entire staff is wonderful, caring and accommodating. We look forward to seeing them all. They have become our extended family.

If you go for TMJ they will insist on a sleep therapy add on. Doesnt help but it makes them money. Insurance will NOT pay for TMJ

My first visit, I was greeted by an incredibly friendly and personable staff. Dr. Harter is very knowledgeable and truly invested in his patient's dental health. I highly recommend this place I'm a picky on service business owner myself these guys did a great job took honest care and attention to detail wasn't insane on the price did things in a comfortable professional manner even had tvs to look at something other than a picture of a flower

Dr. Harter and his incredible team are a breath of fresh air. They are truly the definition of caring! Dr. Harter is very passionate about not just your teeth and gums but your overall well being. He is also very gentle, which is important to those of us suffering from TMJ pain. I have met very few doctors who are willing to take the time to explain every detail of of their plan for your care. Dr. Harter is one of those rare doctors. He isn't satisfied with just telling you his plan for you. He wants you to understand why his plan will work for you. I have never had a doctor who was concerned with addressing the root of my health problems. Dr. Harter considered the body as a whole when forming a diagnosis and treatment plan. And he takes the time to explain everything to you and help you help yourself to heal. I'm sleeping better, not in chronic pain, and no more headaches. I'm so grateful for him and his wonderful staff! If you're looking to make an investment in yourself, this is the one!

Update 2/1/22 The cap is still in place with no issues. Update 9/3/2021 The cap is still in place and no problems have come up. I like my own work! Update 6/8/21 I am still enjoying the work I did myself, I've been to yet another dentist and told him my story- he stated I hope you got it clean before cementing it on, he did inspect it and had little to say. After reinstalling the cap my bite did feel a bit different for 2-3 days. Now after a month has gone by there is no different feeling than there was a month before this all happened. I do have some deep pockets and I am going to a periodontist to see what I need to do next. It makes sad that we have to pay for failed work that is done by Practicing Doctors. I wonder would they pay me to practice on their car? UPDATE 5/4/21 Dr had re-cemented a gold cap that came off, a couple days went buy and the cap came off again. I was sure he had did a good job. I dared to do the work myself with a lot of thought and research before hand. After going to my regular place for dental work 2 times to have the cap put back on and then to Dr Harter. So far so good, my work has lasted longer than the a fore mentioned. I had been going to a franchise dental office for a few years. When it came time to need actual dental work they failed. I needed a gold cap put back on, I did some research, had an appointment in another shop with poor results. I had made two other appointments before I talked to Dr Harter's receptionist. Dr was overhearing our conversation and gave her the ok to make my appointment. I was asking a lot of questions and was requesting an unusual task. Dr Harter accepted , did a very good job, and I went home happier than most of us after dental work. I believe he is a knowledgeable dentist, that is able to remember times past, has stayed current in the knowledge of the profession . He has the knowledge, talent and ability to do what you need done.
