New dental technologies are regularly being introduced, and many of these advancements have greatly improved our ability to care for your oral health. At Barner Family Dental Care, we believe in keeping up with these new tools so that you know youre receiving completely modern care. Our dental care technology includes:
Digital panorex, digital X-rays, and DIAGNOdent are all excellent tools for assessing the state of your oral health. With the help of these various technologies, we can find the warning signs of future problems before they become obvious, and we can also use the digital images produced by these technologies to help you understand your treatment planning and our recommendations for your dental care. DIAGNOdent is one of several laser technologies used in our Smithfield dental office, and this small hand-held piece can show us where cavities may be developing.
Lasers have the power to lessen the negative effects of various procedures while improving the chances of comfortable and successful dental care. We use the VersaWave hard and soft tissue laser, giving us the versatility to treat teeth, bone, and gums. The VersaWave dental laser can be used to perform cavity preparations, decay removal, enamel etching for dental restorations and debridement. We can also use the VersaWave dental laser to cut, shave, and contour bone, and perform various gum therapies, including biopsies, gingivectomies, and abscess incision. What does this mean for your care? When we use a dental laser to perform these treatments and others, you benefit from greater precision, less discomfort, and improved healing. There is little to no bleeding with procedures performed using the dental laser, and the heat from the VersaWave increases sterilization.
At Barner Family Dental Care in Smithfield, RI, we see a lot of anxious patients. Why? Weve designed our office to be as comforting and relaxing as possible. We offer nitrous oxide for sedation dentistry, and our dentists use special techniques to make injections far more comfortable.
Dr. Gregory Barner earned his BS from the University of Rhode Island, graduating summa cum laude, before completing his dental studies at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston. From 2009-2011, he performed all phases of dentistry on patients at New England Medical Hospital, then began practicing privately in June of 2011. He has advanced training in treating soft tissues.. Hes also a member of the American Dental Association and a Diplomat with the American and International Dental Implant Association. Besides providing care to patients here, in the US, he has also participated in medical mission trips to Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
Before studying at SUNY Buffalos School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Philip Barner earned his BA from the University of Vermont. He then went into private practice in 1977. Currently, hes a member of the American Dental Association, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, and the Rhode Island Dental Association, of which he is a past president. Following his graduation from dental school, Dr. Barner completed his post-graduate studies in advanced restorative and esthetic dentistry at SUNY Buffalo and the University of Minnesota. He loves creating beautiful smiles, aided by a talented team of professionals.

Since Dr Barner retired and left his son in charge this place is going down hill fast. Most dentists come see you after a cleaning. We (whole family) have not seen a Dr there for the past couple of cleanings to come check on our teeth or even say hi. They just clean and send you on your way. We were directly told that he was going through a really bad divorce and has not been around in a while. This has been for 2 years now. Even the (very nice) staff laughs about it.

I was a patient of Dr. Philip Barnet for over 25 years and he was incredible at his job and very personable. Unfortunately, he retired and his son took over the practice. He didn't show up for quite a few visits, basically never came to the office. And I feel as though he was more interested in the dollars and what he could do to make money than what was best for my teeth. My wife also had a filling fall out and instead of just replacing, he drilled away a majority of the tooth and then said, "yeah I think your going to need a crown." My entire family has since left to another practice. It's really a shame because his father was a phenomenal dentist with a great business. His son Greg ran it into the ground.

I am 76 years old and have been blessed for most of my adult life with having Dr. Philip Barner...and now having Dr. Greg Barner...for my dental care ...and I have required quite a bit of care over the years! My smile is a bright one I can never be ashamed to send your way, thanks to them and their hygienists and nurse assistants. Also...you will never find a more accommodating office staff....so patient, kind, welcoming, personable and knowledgeable regarding my dental plans over the years. My mouth has been "in good hands", and I am most grateful.

Myself, my wife and our two sons have been going to the practice for years. We love Dr. Barner and Dr. Greg. Sometimes we get some "attitude" from the office when we call. My wife can recall several times trying to schedule an appointment and getting static from the office like it was an inconvenience for them. It's part of the job.

I never had a reason to go to another dentist! I am a long time patient of Dr. Phil Barner D.D.S. for over 45 years, that says a lot! He takes away all your fears and assures you a comfortable experience. From numbing to finish, he's the best! Phil Sr. taught his son well..... Dr. Greg walks in his father's "footsteps". Both are highly professional and well versed in modern dentistry and advanced technology. I've had root canals, crowns, bonding, cavities, extractions and implants. They do it all! My wife and I are fortunate to have the benefits of a staff filled with talent, skills, integrity and their caring. First and foremost Dr. Barner's office is top notch. Let me start off by saying I have not been to the dentist in over a year. This was due to circumstances beyond my control. I was a little apprehensive when I went to Dr.Barner's office. Any uneasiness I had went away when I met Michele and Jaime. They were both gracious, kind and welcoming. Thank you Dr. Barner and staff. If you are looking for a dentist, give team Barner's office a visit.
