Dr. Ellen is a board certified pediatric dentist and mother of three. She truly cares about children, and shes committed to providing exceptional oral health care in an environment where they feel safe. That means answering their questions, teaching them about oral hygiene and just simply taking the time to make her patients in Poway feel supported.

Dr. Johnson is the founder and owner of San Diego Dental Anesthesia. He is a dual board-certified dental anesthesiologist serving over 60 pediatric specialists in greater San Diego. Dr. Johnson lives with his wife and children in San Diego, California, where he was born and raised. Hes an active member of the community and enjoys serving on the Board of Directors for the San Diego County Dental Society. He also serves as faculty, part-time, at Lutheran Medical Center where he lectures to pediatric residents about emergency management and in-office general anesthesia for children.
Dr. Johnson earned his post-doctoral degree in dental anesthesiology and his doctorate in dental surgery from Loma Linda University. In the fourth year of his doctoral program, he was awarded Excellence in the Field of Dental Anesthesia by the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA), graduating from his dental anesthesia residency academically ranked first in his class. His bachelors degree in chemistry is from the University of San Diego.
Dr. Chenard is a board certified orthodontist who has been practicing in San Diego since 2006. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at UCSD and earned his dental degree at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He completed his orthodontics residency and TMJ fellowship at the University of Rochester thereafter.
Dr. Chenard provides top-notch orthodontic treatment to children and adults in a comfortable, caring, and professional manner. His expertise includes Invisalign, clear braces, self-ligating braces, and traditional braces. In addition to orthodontics, Dr. Chenard also specializes in TMJ disorders (TMJ pain and teeth grinding) and dentofacial orthopedics which involves the guidance of facial growth and development. He is an active member of American Association of Orthodontists, California Association of Orthdontists, and Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.
In his free time, Dr. Chenard enjoys traveling, fishing, mountain biking, camping, freediving, and surfing. He also participates in the UCSD Flying Samaritans dental group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free health care for underserved populations in Mexico. Dr. Chenard has participated in dental mission trips to Mexico, Costa Rica, and Nepal.
As a native of Southern California, Dr. Ellen is proud to serve the community in and around Poway, CA, and enjoys educating at local community events, schools and churches about effective oral hygiene. She also helps out with her daughters Girl Scout troop. In 2017, she and her staff participated in Chelseas Run, a memorial run that raises money and awareness to encourage safety and positivity for todays youth community.

Dr. Ellen has always had a special way with children. She grew up in Orange County, CA, and, as a teenager, spent her spare time tutoring younger kids. So its no surprise that, when she decided to pursue a career in dentistry, she was drawn to serving younger patients.
After completing her DDS, Dr. Ellen founded Northern Virginia Pediatric Dentistry, and word spread quickly about the exemplary care that she providedearning her the #1 ranking on Dr. Oogle reviews for pediatric dentistry in her area. She attributes the success, in part, to her ability to build rapport with kids.
During my undergrad, I majored in biology and minored in studio art at the University of California at Irvine. The family enjoys attending the kids sporting events (soccer and softball), getting involved with their church, arts and crafts, and helping out with their daughters Girl Scout troop. In addition, Dr. Ellen teaches Sunday school, is an active leader in the Womens Ministry, and enjoys practicing yoga.

Very impressed! The entire staff was very welcoming, the cleanings were gentle and the space is kid-friendly including TVs to watch movies during your cleanings. My son needed a small filling and they squeezed us in so we didn't need to make another appointment and come back. Love that!

First time dentist experience for my 4 year old toddler (I know, shame on us but that's not what this is about) was very pleasant. All staff were very friendly yet noticably busy the entire time. Joan, our dental tech, very gentle and efficient with our toddler - he didn't cry, choke/gag, or complain one bit. Dr. Im was very detailed with her examination and explanations to us about his conditions. Toddler has issues with his teeth because of his parents and Dr. Im was very professional, assertive and supportive on how we proceed with toddler's long term care. We also brought our 18m baby. Both kids in, cleaned, examined, and out in under 1 hour for appointments made after school time.

Great with kids. Did a 2 yr and 2.5 yr cleanings and they were great with my little one. Despite crying, when we left, she had fun! They have Disney+ at every chair which is great for calming down the kids.

Both of my two daughters like Dr. Ellen very much. My three-year-old daughter started to love to brush her teeth twice daily after her first cleaning visit with Dr. Ellen. And Dr. Ellen did an excellent tongue tie surgery for my three-year-old daughter with minor pains. It's very fast and professional. It's recommended to all my friends who have kids.

Quick and painless. The hygienist made it a great experience and the TV was a good distraction. Dr. Ellen did a thorough examination and took the time to explain what would occur in the next 6 months up to the next appointment.

Love this dentist office! Everyone is so sweet and caring. My son has a gag reflex when he has X-rays done. They take the time to make sure his comfortable between x-rays. They also go over everything if they notice anything and if there is an issue they try's and get him in right away!!!! Best dentist office ever!!!

After taking my kids to other dentists who gives excessive yet unnecessary treatment plans, I am so happy to have found Dr Ellen. She truly understands the concerns on parents' mind, and takes care of the problems in a conservative yet effective way. Dr Ellen and her office try their best to accommodate emergency visits. We are happy clients for 8 years now.

I am SO glad I found this incredible dentist/ortho office for my children!! I have never in my life met people who were so amazing with kids and with parents. I would have given anything to have an experience at Dr. Ellen's as a child. My twin daughters got their braces off recently, after having gotten them under Dr. Chenard (who I highly recommend) and we are so pleased with the results. I found out Dr. Chenard will do Ortho for adults as well and instantly booked a consult. I will be getting my Invisalign in 2023 which I'm so excited for I cannot recommend this business enough, truly - don't think twice just call and book. These people are gifts from God in the way they work with kids. I truly recommend them to anyone I know. We will be lifelong customers of Dr. Ellen's business!
