Ive been privileged to see the difference in peoples feelings about themselves and the growth of confidence that a great smile brings for over 28 years here in Chico. It's easy to be passionate about orthodontics when its this satisfying for both me and my patients.

In 1999, Dr. Bruno became the first Chico orthodontist since the 1970s to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists. After presenting his case records for review by the ABO board in Saint Louis, he was honored by being asked to display his presentations at the meeting of the American Association of Orthodontists in San Diego the following year.

The path to that point started in the 1980s as a general dentist in northeastern California. Dr. B traveled for continuing education and learned simple orthodontic techniques to help his patients because the closest orthodontist was more than 100 miles away. He developed a passion for the challenges and rewards associated with orthodontics and chose to leave general dentistry in 1988 and enter the orthodontic residency program at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, graduating in 1990 after being awarded the Frederick West Leadership Award by his peers. He began his specialty practice in Chico and moved into his current location in 1991. Now he loves teaming with his patients and their dentists to develop solutions for the simplest or most complex problems. Dr. Brunos experience in family and restorative dentistry is invaluable in working with your dentist.

Dr. B was raised and educated in Santa Rosa, California. He and his wife Sarah have lived in Chico the past 25 years. They have three grown children: Ben, who lives in Chandler, Arizona: Robert and Kate, both of Chico.The family is rounded out by Slim, a rescued Border Collie mix adopted from a local animal shelter. Dr. Brunos hobbies include fly-fishing, back packing, and cooking.

Dr. B is an avid conservationist and believes in sharing that knowledge and passion with others. Hes a supporter and frequent volunteer at Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs, which is a local program to help young people become interested in outdoor recreation. Hes a past president of the Chico Area Fly Fishers, which is actively involved in conservation efforts throughout northern California. For many years he coached girls youth basketball teams.

Sarah is a History of Art graduate of the University of California and has a teaching credential from CSUC. While living in rural Modoc County, she opened the area's first bookstore and also participated in developing the counties first GATE program.

Corie has over 20 years in dentistry and orthodontics. She is a Registered Dental Assistant from Orland and is a graduate of the Butte College ROP program. Corie can work in both the administrative and clinical areas of the office but spends most of her time in the business area where her knowledge of dental procedures allows her to make the most of your time when scheduling.

Susan has been an orthodontic assistant with Chico Orthodontics for over 20 years. Her experience in orthodontics dates back longer than she will allow us to say (but Jimmy Carter was president). Susan is not only your orthodontic assistant but is our laboratory technician and will probably make the retainers to preserve that great smile you worked to earn.

Kate is our newest member. She is both a Registered Dental Assistant and a Certified Orthodontic Assistant. Her experience in dentistry and orthodontics dates to 2010. Kate brings the party every day and will make your orthodontic experience more fun than you could imagine.

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.

Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can now choose clear or metal brackets and, in some cases, the color of your appliance. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Today, any age is a great age to wear braces!

Treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A big factor in a successful treatment is you! The more involved and diligent you are, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker treatment time.
