Dr. Hogan is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, attending Muhlenburg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania and receiving his degree in dentistry from Temple Dental School. After graduation in 1974, he joined the United States Army and did a one-year general dentistry internship at Martin Army Hospital, Fort Benning, Georgia. After six years as a general dentist in Muenchweiler, Germany and Fort Ord, California, Dr. Hogan became a specialist in periodontics, receiving his training at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Hogan then served as staff periodontist at Fort Riley, Kansas 1984-87; Fort Clayton, Panama 1987-89 and then at Fort Jackson, South Carolina 1989-95. One of his duties as staff periodontist while at Fort Riley and Fort Jackson was teaching periodontics to the one-year general practice. After 21 years of practicing dentistry in the military, Dr. Hogan helped found his present office in 1995, Midlands Perio/Endo Center.
Dr. Hogan is Board Certified by the American Board of Periodontology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology and Columbia, South Carolina Rotary. Excellence in patient care, wonderful communication skills, close coordination with referring dentists and dental specialists have all contributed to Dr Hogan's success.
When not practicing Periodontics, you can usually find him participating in his church. He is also a regular on medical mission trips, having traveled to Nicaragua, Kenya, and Liberia. Dr. Hogan has four children: hygienist, a kindergarten teacher, a web designer, and a lawyer.

Had an appointment for months. Confirmed it the day before. The day of they called and told me I had to come earlier because they scheduled me during the dentists lunch hour. When I told them I was working they told me I would have to leave work earlier than I already was. I told them to throw my file in the trash.

Dr. Hogan took great care in determining what to do as the best course of treatment. He was explaining everything and made sure I understood what was going on. His staff was excellent in helping through the procedure and made sure I understood everything as well. It was a great experience overall.

I have been going to Dr. Hogan's office for years, to have my teeth cleaned there regularly. They have the best dental hygienist in Columbia. My first procedure with Dr. Hogan was about 20 years ago and I was impressed not only by his expertise but by his genuine concern and care for my well being and satisfaction. I've been going back for routine cleaning, and more recently, I've been back for additional procedures and thrilled to see that his office has expanded and that the kind doctor hasn't changed - he's still the person I want to entrust with my serious dental care. I'm also happy to see that his high standards for client care extend to all staff, from the front desk employees to those in accounting, and his dental assistants! The office has been making great precautions through this time of COVID. They have been awesome!
