Dr. Donald Cox completed his undergraduate training at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He then continued his specialization by earning his degree in Dentistry and securing his Oral and Maxillofacial residency at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis.
Upon completion of his training, Dr. Don Cox entered the United States Navy and was stationed at the Washington Navy Yard and the National Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland where he served until his discharge. In addition to his honorable discharge, Dr. Cox received a Letter of Appreciation from the Navy for his service.
He earned his board certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1973. While the vast majority of his surgical procedures are performed in his office, he is on staff at Summit Medical Center for more complicated surgeries.
Even as a busy Nashville oral surgeon, Dr. Cox is still an avid sports fan. He supports his alma mater, the University of Tennessee (the Vols), as well as the Tennessee Titans. He has served as the oral surgeon for both the Titans and the Nashville Predators.
Dr. Cox and his wife Beth have four children and six grandchildren. All of their children have followed in Dr. Cox's footsteps by pursuing professional careers in the healthcare industry. Sons, William Cox and Andrew Cox are both dentists, daughter Allison Strnad is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist, and Rachel Jones has a degree in psychology and is applying to graduate school to study forensic psychology.
