For over 38 years, Dr. Dirk DeKoch has practiced dentistry in the Alamo Heights area, with a focus on family, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry. Dr. DeKochgraduated from Texas A&M University and subsequently earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistryin 1980.
Dr. Dirk DeKoch has been selected for inclusion on the Super Dentists list as published in Texas Monthly magazine, and on numerous occasions, he has been recognized by his peers for exceptional commitment to oral health. He has been the recipient of manyother local and statewide recognitions.
Dr. DeKoch served over 22 years as a Director and volunteer at the San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic. Furthermore, he served as a dental consultant to the Alamo Heights School District for many years in an advisory capacity and by partnering with the school nurses to provide dental screenings on all K through 5th grade students. He has been involved in the San Antonio District Dental Society, serving as a member of the Board of Directors, and has earned the Presidents Award for Outstanding Service. Dr. DeKoch has been a guest lecturer at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistry.
Outside the dental office, Dr. Dirk DeKoch has continued to be actively involved with Texas A&M University through over a decade of service on the External Advisory and Development Council of the College of Science, a group selected by the Dean of the College to provide assistance, advice, and support from Aggies who are influential leaders in their scientific fields. After being invited to join this prestigious Council in 2004, Dr. DeKoch was honored to serve a two-year term as the Chairman of the EADC in 2009 and 2010.
Dr. DeKoch is an Elder at First Presbyterian Church San Antonio. He and his wife, Susan, have three grown children (two in dentistry, one in real estate), as well as a daughter-in-law (another dentist!) and a son-in-law (also in real estate). He and Susan also have two absolutely perfect grandsons as well as a perfectly adorable granddaughter. When he needs to recharge his batteries, he enjoys travel, hunting, and golf, but he is admittedly better at the first two than the last!

This was a GREAT "New Patient" visit. My long time dentist retired a couple of years ago, and I've been dragging my feet to find a dentist on my health insurance plan. This is a very busy, very efficient, very professional office. I was impressed with their set up for x-rays, and the hygienist was wonderful. She did a thorough cleaning and it was relatively pain free, particularly considering how long it had been since I saw a hygienist. When I met Dr Dirk DeKoch he checked my teeth, was reassuring about what shape my teeth are in, and cautioned me about what to look out for WRT mouth and throat cancer. I expect to use this practice for the rest of my life. Blessings to them all! October 12,2022. Routine six month check up and cleaning. Can I give this practice, office, hygienist and dentist TEN stars? Love them.

New client/patient of Dr. DeKoch and Alamo Heights Dental. Office run by father, son, and daughter dentists. I've had serious dental problems. Last time I went to a dentist was over 10 years ago. Been having painful toothaches so had to confront my phobia once and for all for dentists due to terrible experiences in my younger days. Had two appointments this week for Xrays, cleaning, assessment. Second appointment, tooth extraction, several cavity fillings completed today. Painless, quick extraction, cavity fills, and follow up instructions. First rate dentist, first rate office staff. All in all it was quite a pleasant experience. My teeth and gums are happy now. LOL Highly recommend Dr. DeKoch and Alamo Heights Dental to anyone. Phil

Dr. DeKoch is extremely skilled and knows what he is doing. The facility is brand new and they have all the best technology. The staff are very professional. I feel so lucky to be a patient there.

Update 12/23/20 - I think I have said what I have have to say already about Dr. DeKoch, but I had to take the time again to express my gratitude for the phenomenal service I receive every time I visit this practice. If someone has figured out how to do 6 star reviews on here, please let me know! Original review - Alright, I don't know why they didn't just relocate their business in GMaps and bring all the old reviews with them, but anyway, I believe most of the staff came over to this new location so I recommend you look at old reviews for service. I personally love Dr. DeKoch Sr. He is by far the most professional and pleasant medical professional I've worked with in my 12 years in San Antonio, same goes for Krista my dental hygienist. Now for the new location... holy cow... I used to like their old location because of its cozy homey feeling, like going to my grand parents back in the day. I wasn't too sure about upgrading the look but jeez, they went above and beyond! You can see the pictures to get an idea, but top notch! I mean, the freaking chairs have some form of shiatsu massage! Lol it's crazy, come check it out! Update 8/2/18 - Still loving this place and team! If only I could find a comparable general practitioner...

Outstanding practice. Extremely professional and relaxed environment that made you feel welcome. Dr. Susie DeKoch gave me 3 crowns that I had been hesitating getting. Wow, she gave me my money maker back. The confidence I have now when I smile is priceless. Well done, Ill be coming back here as long as Im standing. Great staff and Dr's.

I have been a patient of Dr. DeKoch for many years and he has undoubtedly one of the best bedside manners I have ever had. He is patient and is truly concerned about his patients well being. I would also like to comment about Diane whom I believe is the office manager. She is one of the sweetest people I have ever known, also concerned about the patient well being. There is also, Dr. DeKoch assistant Cindy makes you feel very at ease and happy to see me while I am waiting to see the Dr.

The services I received there were good. The problem is that they did not check to see if they took my insurance. After services were rendered, they checked with my insurance and revealed to me my $305.00 for cleaning and x-rays because they told me my insurance was not accepted. They should be able to see that they do not take the insurance being presented to them before services are rendered and not hit the customer with an unexpected $305.00 bill. I called asking for a possible discount and they tell me that they had actually already given me a discount of $300.00? Really, essentially it cost $605.00 for x-rays and cleaning? Hmmm, does not make sense! Update (9/25/18): I received a call from Dr. DeKoch's office after posting the previous review. I did not post the review to get a call from them, but I was pleased with the fact that they followed-up. To clarify, I did not get a discount of $300.00 as I had initially understood. The total price was $305.00 for the services rendered (x-rays, cleaning, exam). I still have to pay that amount, but ultimately, I should of checked with my insurance as well and ensured that Dr. DeKoch was covered. I suppose I expected for them to do it for me since most doctors do, but some I now know don't. All in all, Dr. Dirk and Dr. Susie are great doctors and they are not to be blamed for this less than ideal and probably rare transaction. They will take good care of you. My kids whom have a different insurance still go to the DeKoch's for dental services.

While waiting for lab to come back today, she let me sit in the dental chair because dr dirk had grandparents day. She stayed so busy stocking rooms staying busy while dr was gone. People make the place. Secondly the building is brand new and styled so personally with lumber from ancestors homestead. Gorgeous place. I am in capable hands and feel like I have known them. 110 Chichester sat 78218 easy to get to plenty of parking and the staff make this experience above and beyond pleasurable. Not the word usually associated with a dental visit!

I work at a dental coinic on ft sam and i have seen a lot of weird things on and off post. The doctors and hygienists here are homest and kind. I can read xrays and I know when im being told i need something I don't. This dentist chooses treatment you really need and does it well. I cant recommend them enough.
