Your first visit to our office will be a free exam for you or your child. Dr. Gilmore will carefully examine the teeth for a wide range of possible orthodontic problems, such as crowding, cross-bite, gaps, etc. Once he has a clear picture of the most likely course of treatment, well sit down with you to discuss what type of treatment is necessary, how long it will take, and estimate how much it will cost. Youll understand everything you need to know in order to decide whether to proceed with treatment or not.
After your complimentary exam, if you decide to proceed with treatment, records are then made to determine the best course of treatment. Complete diagnostic records typically include a medical/dental history, clinical examination, study models of the teeth, photos of the patients face and teeth, and X-rays. This information is used to develop a custom treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.
The cost of your orthodontic treatment may vary depending on your individual needs and treatment plan. During your visit, well discuss the cost of your treatment as well as available payment options and plans so that you are able to make the best choice for you and your smile. We will work with you to create a payment plan that fits your budget and you will know what to expect before beginning treatment.
Dr. Gilmore was born and raised in Canton, Ohio, and is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He completed a military career by serving in the Navy for nearly 30 years, first as a nuclear engineer, and then as a dentist and orthodontist. He lives in Scripps Ranch with his wife of 30 years, Teryn. They have two grown children and a beautiful black lab named Millie. Sarah graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and Tufts University. She works as an Occupational Therapist. Following in Dr. Gilmores footsteps, Sawyer is also a graduate of the Naval Academy and is a Navy helicopter pilot. When not in the office, Dr. Gilmore enjoys spending much of his time outdoors with his family, especially skiing, snowboarding, camping and hiking. He also regularly participates in fitness activities like swimming, biking and running.
Changing people’s lives and smiles is what makes me passionate about orthodontics. It is the perfect combination of art and science, enabling me to use both to create beautiful smiles. Meeting so many wonderful and unique people is what makes every day truly exciting and rewarding
I am grew up in Chicago and have had the privilege to live around the world. We settled here in California in 2012, and my husband and I spend our time enjoying our 4 boys and life in beautiful San Diego.
I am a San Diego transplant from Annapolis Maryland, and a NAVY Spouse of 28 years. I have been blessed to live overseas and travel the world with our kids, and with our big, furry, and playful 120lb Alaskan Malamute, Jack!
I love spending time with my amazing husband and our two furry babies, Moose and Wolfe! We are originally from Boston and love hanging out with our friends, going to the beach, and trying out new things.
I am a Registered Dental Assistant and love assisting Dr. Gilmore with all of our amazing patients. My favorite part of working at Gilmore Orthodontics is seeing the progress everyone makes in creating their own perfect smile.
I am originally from Western New York and have lived in San Diego for 14 years. My free time is dedicated to having adventures with my loving husband and two boys. We love going to the beach, BBQs with friends and enjoying San Diego.

I am so glad our dentist referred us to Dr Gilmore for orthodontics! I feel so at ease sending my kids here. Dr Gilmore is honest, gentle, always opts for the least invasive procedures and has a rock star staff. They clearly explain everything they are doing to both parent and child. The office is set up in a way that parents can see everything without having to be right next to their child. Bonus- they are also right next to Trader Joe's and don't mind at all if you run an errand or two while they work on your kid! Anytime I have called with a question or issue, even if it's outside normal business hours, I receive a call back almost immediately. Everyone in the office knows all the patients by name. Even billing is so simple and transparent. There are no surprise fees from this office and their prices are very fair. It's just so easy and stress free. This is the only office I would recommend for anyone seeking orthodontic care.

I honestly can't say enough good things about Gilmore Orthodontics. Friendly staff, great quality care, super fun for the kids (they celebrate the patients when braces come off), easy to schedule with and very knowledgeable. They had my son write a thank you note to me when his braces came off. Great personal touches and quality care.

Both of my daughters are in treatment with Dr. Gilmore and we couldn't be happier. All of our appointments have been great. He really took his time during the consultation to listen to our concerns and to answer all of our questions. His assistants are wonderful too. My girls actually look forward to going to their appointments. Beautiful office, great staff and so far a great experience for our family. Highly recommend this office!!!

These guys are pros. Total professionals. Love the orthodontist Dr. Gilmore, super sweet man and very good with kids. Payment plans are totally reasonable, and they are very efficient, clean, and practice solid Covid procedures. Did not try to upsell me unnecessarily. These guys are the best.

Dr. Gilmore and his team are the best! I went in for an Invisalign consultation to ask about correcting my smile. I had braces as a teenager but my teeth had shifted over the years. They answered my questions, told me my next steps, made me feel comfortable, and helped with insurance changes. Treatment and retainer checks were a breeze and I always felt like they really cared about me and how I felt about my smile. They even celebrate with you when you finish your treatment! Highly recommend!

Excellent orthodontist with great plans. We had consultations with 2 other orthodontists before deciding on this one. All three places showed how our child had a severe overbite, and front 2 teeth were sticking forwards. The other 2 wanted to put full braces on entire top and bottom rows of teeth, and explained a 2-phase process that would be around $6000. This dentist explained we only needed braces on the top front 4, and quoted us 1/4 the price of the other places. In about a year, our child was done with braces, with beautiful looking teeth, now just in a retainer. We are all so happy.
