Dr. Backus is a native of the Toledo area. He is a 1977 graduateof St. Johns Jesuit High School, attended The University of Toledo and graduated from The College of Pharmacy in 1983. He attended The Ohio State University for Dentistry. After graduation in 1986 he proudly served in the United States Air Force and United States Public Health Service in Alaska. After 23 years of private practice, Dr. Backus decided to persue a formal Dental Anesthesiology residency program at Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. Graduating in 2011, he earned a certificate in Advanced Specialty Education in Dental Anesthesiology. Dr. Backus received his Board Certification in Anesthesia in 2018. He is a Diplomate of both the American Dental Board of Anesthesia and the National Dental Board of Anesthesia. Bringing Anesthesia services to a requesting doctor and providing quality Anesthesia care while the Doctor completes dentistry is a service that less than 350 Dentist Anesthesiologist in the United States can offer. Also, Dr. Backus provides a wide variety of anesthesia and dentistry in his own office. Dr. Backus is a member of local and National Dental/Anesthesia organizations and is considered a lifelong learner by his peers.

The Dr. here was super nice and a great dentist, but unfortunately to get to him you have to go through the front desk lady, who was very rude, and extremely hard to deal with, she didn't submit our claims correctly at all, one she never even submitted before trying to collect money. Be careful going here and make sure u have a full itemized statement before you pay a dime!

Dr.Backus took care of my little one today in Butte, MT at Butte Pediatric Dentistry. He first came out and gave a very warm welcome and was super informative about the entire process of what to expect and whatnot to except. He carefully went by each step on the consent to treat and had his staff come out very often to keep us updated on how are little one was doing. After everything was over he reassured that we acknowledged the after care process and gave us their phone number to call if we had any questions or concerns. They even called a little later on to check on our little one! I am so happy we got to have such a great experience with such an awesome anesthesiologist!

I dont understand 1 star, that person obviously, no one would meet her needs. Just returned from there. Great cleaning from Amy, Friendly, caring and very personable. Dr. Backus was forthright and pleasant, best dentist in town. Receptionist Donna could not have more gracious. Good job. Ernie Molnar

Did not help us one bit. Never called us back. Never billed for X-ray or exam. That's just weird. Didn't want to deal with husband's needs. I have worked for many dentists. I know this type! Don't trust him or his wife at all!

Fantastic experience. Amy and Donna are wonderful to interact with and great at taking care of teeth. Dr. Backus is also great. Everyone takes the needed time to do a great job. They are also very friendly and kind. I have been going there at least 6 years. I actually look forward to going to the dentist, because the people who work there are so pleasant, even if they have to do something a bit uncomfortable to your mouth. As a woman of color I have always felt very nicely treated and welcome.
