Dr. Coates is a native to Utah. He graduated from Bingham High in 1988 continuing his education at the University of Utah, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in June 1995. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Creighton University in May 1999. After finishing his schooling he and his wife moved home to Utah where he was a Resident Dentist at the University of Utah for a year before starting his own family dentist practice.
Dr. Coates joined the Utah Army National Guard in August of 2001 as a Dentist and has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is able to do humanitarian missions through the National Guard every year and takes pride in serving people and his Country.
Dr. Coates, his wife and 3 children reside in South Jordan and call this area of the Salt Lake Valley home. He enjoys the outdoors, fishing, biking, running and most of all University of Utah Football.
Julie graduated with honors from Salt Lake Community College in 2002 with an Associates Degree in Applied Science. She has worked in the family dentist office of Dr. David Coates as a dental hygienist since that time. Julie is experienced in many aspects of the dental field including general, orthodontic and periodontal dentistry. She is certified in CPR/BLS training and continues to further her knowledge and keep up with advancements in the dental hygiene field by attending yearly CE courses. Julie enjoys her work as a dental hygienist and makes it her goal to help each of her patients have a positive experience in her dental chair (YES!!! It IS possible!). Outside of work, Julie enjoys physical fitness, reading, and family time with her husband and three kids. She is a proud Utah native and loves exploring the diverse landscapes of Utah while hiking, canyoneering, driving, and boating.

I've been with Dr Coates for at least 10 years. He and his staff are amazing. I didn't smile much, now my teeth are something to smile about. 1SG(R) Yardley.

When my dentist who I've gone to my whole life retired I was forced to find somewhere else to go. I've tried numerous other dentists since then and was always disappointed. I couldn't be happier with Dr. Coates and his staff. If you are looking for a professional dentist who does quality work and staff that is friendly and professional, this is the place to go! If I could give them a higher rating I would.

Dr. Coates is so awesome! He fixed my two front teeth, and they look so good. The staff is so friendly and nice. They worked with me well and were able to fit me in before my wedding! I would highly recommend this office to anyone that needs dental work done!

Unethical business-avoid! My late husband and I were forced to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2012 because of him being hospitalized repeatedly while waiting for a liver transplant that never came. Despite having good medical insurance, the copays alone were several hundred thousand dollars. He passed away in 2013. Despite receiving legal notice of the bankruptcy, David J. Coates DDS refuses to remove a lien from my home. Both my attorney and I have contacted this business and its attorney on several occasions and they refuse to take any action to make this right. Now I can't sell my home or get a home equity loan because of David J. Coates DDS illegal lack of action. Boycott this immoral and unethical dentist!

I have been coming to Dr. Coats for years now and there is not another dentist I would trust with my teeth. The staff is super friendly and always makes me feel welcome.

I called because of severe tooth pain they understood my concern and was able to get me in asap I got in at 5 and they recomended. Me to an endodonist and got me on antibiotics and additional medication to get through till I got in to get my tooth fixed in dealinng with little pain now thanks to them ill be able to survive until my appointment thanks dr coats best dentist ive had :)

I've been searching for a good dentist that I feel confident taking my family to. Trying a new dentist is a very scary thing. I found Dr Coates from my insurance provider list and took a chance on him based off of his positive google reviews. I am very pleased with his services. Dr Coates is a great dentist. I am very impressed with his knowledge and experience. I really like how Dr Coates listened to all of my concerns and had very satisfactory answers. His Hygienist does an excellent job and she is very knowledgeable. Very impressed. I am referring all of my family members to Dr. Coates. His staff is very warm and welcoming. Thanks guys for helping me to feel confident going to the dentist again.
