Smiley Family Dentistry has a long history as a trusted dental office in Grand Rapids, dating back to 1948.

Dr. Christopher Smiley is a native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Forest Hills Northern High School. He holds a bachelors degree in Biology from the University of Michigan, and in 1986 earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Following graduation, along with his wife (Dr. Colette Smiley), he joined in practice with his father, Dr. Harold Smiley, who founded this practice in 1948.

Dr. Smiley is a published author in professional journals and has lectured nationally on evidence-based dentistry, patient-centered care, dental quality measurement, management of periodontal disease, and practice management and dental benefit plans. Dr. Smiley has been recognized for his continuing contributions to the dental profession, receiving the 2020 Evidence-Based Dentistry Practice Award from the American Dental Association and the American Association for Dental Research.

Dr. Stephanie Benton is originally from Wyoming, Michigan, and graduated from Rogers High School in 2000. She holds a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Sciences from Western Michigan University and graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in the top ten percent of her class with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2008.

Stephanie joined Smiley Family Dentistry upon graduation and greatly enjoys family practice. Creating personal relationships with her patients is a top priority. Dr. Benton focuses on restorative care and is a certified provider of Invisalign and SureSmile clear aligner systems. She enjoys providing cosmetic care, including BioClear bonding to shape teeth and smiles, and she has pursued additional training through the Kois Center in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Austin Goodyke is a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School and Hope College, where he earned a degree in Exercise Science and was captain of the mens baseball team. He then attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, graduating in the top ten percent of his class with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery.

While in dental school, Dr. Goodyke founded and was president ofThe Global Initiatives in Oral Health Care Club and piloted an annual trip for dental students to provide dental care in a remote Guatemalan village. He further served at Bay Cliff Health Camp providing free dental care to special needs children and volunteers his skills with the West Michigan Dental Foundation and at area safety-net clinics.

Dr. Goodyke also received numerous recognitions as a dental student, including awards in the delivery of comprehensive care, periodontics, and endodontics by the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He also received a scholarship from the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation for his commitment to leadership and community service.

Austin is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, West Michigan District Dental Society, Kent County Dental Society, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honors Society.
