When I was learning how to treat children in my residency at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, I learned how to fill a tooth. That was in 1991. In my 30 years of treating children, I learned when and why I SHOULD NOT to do a filling.

Through my years, I have learned that some type of treatment has a very low clinical success rate. In other words, it doesnt work! Wouldnt you like to know that before you give the go-ahead? I certainly would if I were the parent.

Some treatment is not necessary at all, but some treatment is vitally necessary. That is the information that you need in order to make an informed decision. With my personal help and guidance, we can make the appropriate determination about what type of treatment is right for YOUR CHILD and only your child.

In our office Ipromise no revolving door of dentists because its just me and I like it that way!. I alone treat every child in the office- I treat them the same way I treat my own children, utilizing the most conservative approach possible, because quite frankly, they are baby teeth and they are gonna fall out!

Dr. Rich Shulman grew up in Plainview NY, not far from wherehis office is now located. He always wanted to be a childrens dentist. After graduating from Plainview Kennedy in 1983, he attendedSUNY Albany, wherein 1987 he graduatedwith a BS degree in Biologyand a minor in Chemistry.Dr. Rich continued on to get his dental degree at New Jersey Dental School in 1991. Hereceived his specialty certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx in 1993, and was asked to continue there as a part time faculty member. He maintained his teaching position, and private practice in Plainview NY untilthe timedemands of private practice no longer allowed.

Dr Rich now lives in Northern Westchester, in the town of Waccabuc with his wife, two daughters and two sons. He cuts his own grass, does his own electrical work, plumbing , woodworking, andeverything else a dentist shouldnt do with his hands. (He also has much less hair now than in this photo but lets keep that between us.)

There is nothing more important to a persons self-esteem than a smile he or she can be proud of showing. At our office, thats our focus and our mission to give each and every patient a healthy, great looking smile in a comfortable and fun environment. Every patient is different, but when selecting the treatment plan for your child, my goal is always to do for him or her what I would do for my own.

Parents often ask me, Does my child really need braces? Believe it or not, my answer to them is usually no. They do not need braces, but the benefits of having straight teeth and a healthy smile throughout a lifetime are immeasurable and should make it a priority. Our child and adolescent patients love the process choosing colors and watching the transformation of their smile, all with a great deal less discomfort and a much more gentle touch than with the braces of years ago. And we take great satisfaction in seeing them grow up before our eyes, and then with one look in the mirror once their braces are removed, a new broader and brighter smile than ever before emerges. That feeling is truly priceless.

Orthodontics is not just for kids anymore! With the advent of Invisalign technology, more and more adults are choosing to improve their smile at our office. We have many parents who are in treatment along with their children, and who are loving the transformation as well. As an Invisalign patient myself, I know first hand what a great experience it is, and no matter what age you are, a new smile will improve the way you feel about yourself. Well use a team approach with your general dentist to select an appropriate course of treatment for you.

After following the technology for many years, we are now proud to announce that we have incorporated the Itero Dental Scanner into our orthodontic practice. We feel the time is right, as the technology has matured and now we are comfortable treating our orthodontic patients in this manner. This device allows us to do impression free orthodontics with the use of photographic and computer assisted imagery. No more goopy, messy, impressions!
