Dr. Witek received both an undergraduate and graduate degreein Bacteriologyfromthe University of Wisconsin-Madison. After working in a research laboratory at Brigham & Young Hospital, he attended Marquette University School of Dentistry and graduated at the top of his class in 1998.

After earning his dental degree in general dentistry, Dr. Witekundertook an intensive two-year orthodontic residency program at the University of Nebraska Dental School, where he earned aMaster of Science degree and specialization in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedicsin 2000.

There are many types of braces available, including traditional metalbraces, Invisalign, etc. etc. There is not a 'one-size-fits-all' answer to this question. Some types of braces are better suited for certain cases. Dr. Witek will recommend the best option for you after reviewing your individual case.

The length of time a patient will wear braces will vary based on your individual situation. Some teeth simply move more slowly than others! Most of our patients who have a full set of braces (both upper and lower teeth) wear braces for 1-2 years.

You should be able to eat all the healthy foods that you regularly enjoy once you have braces. We recommend that you avoid sticky and chewy foods (e.g., taffy, caramel, chewing gum), hard foods (jaw breaker candy, ice cubes) or any foods that could possibly get stuck in your braces (corn on the cob, popcorn, etc.). We will give additional information about foods to avoid when you get your braces.

Wearing braces will not keep you from doing any of the fun sports or musical activities that you usually do, but there may be a short adjustment period while you are getting used to the new equipment in your mouth. If you play any kind of contact sport, a mouth guard is recommended; this is a good practice even if you don't have braces!

If a wire is poking you after your visit, apply a piece of wax over the tip of the wire to ease the discomfort. If it continues to irritate your mouth, contact our office and we will schedule a time to clip the wire.

We understand that orthodontic treatment is an investment of time and money. We have payment plans available to make treatment affordable for you. You should also check your insurance coverage - many carriers offer partial coverage for braces.
