Dr. Richard Brown obtained his doctorate degree in dentistry from Tufts University and completed his pediatric dentistry residency at St. Christophers Hospital for Children. He has been in private practice since 1991. Dr. Brown maintains professional memberships with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Society, the Luzerne Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Permanent teeth will begin to grow around age 6, and with the exception of wisdom teeth, are all present between ages 12 and 14. The next teeth to grow in are the 12-year molars and finally the wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth typically begin breaking through from age 17 and on. The total number of permanent teeth is 32, though few people have room for all 32 teeth, which is why wisdom teeth are usually removed.

Your front teeth are called incisors. The sharp fang-like teeth are canines. The next side teeth are referred to as pre-molars or bicuspids, and the back teeth are molars. Your permanent teeth are the ones you keep for life, so it is important that they are brushed and flossed regularly and that periodic check-ups by a dentist are followed.

I cannot believe this man is still in business. When I was a child, I had cavities and wasn't the best at taking care of my teeth. Being there, he treated me AWFUL and I still remember it two decades later! He held me down, he yelled at me, told me my mom couldn't hear me scream so stop doing it. I would NEVER take my child to a dentist like him.

I would give 0 stars if I could !! Dr. Brown is the worst pediatric dentist out there !! I took my son in to have a baby tooth pulled that was cracked. My son was scared and crying. Dr. Brown came into the room and decided to use a scare tactic to get my son to stop crying. He verbally abused him and told him he was a horrible little boy and to stop crying. And tried hold him back in the chair ! This man should not be allowed around little children. We will never go back to this place !!

I'm not sure I would even give the office one star. After multiple testimonies from friends and others in the area saying they had bad experiences with this office, I tried to give the benefit of the doubt since they have changed ownership and are working toward becoming a Sprout Dental location. However, the same staff remains. Upon entering the office, the receptionist checked us in under the wrong name, not verifying address or telephone or birthdate or insurance to ensure she had the right patient. Another member of the office came out of the hallway right up to me and told me a random copay amount for the day, further confusing me and the whole situation, only to find out she was talking to the wrong patient (and also not the one they incorrectly checked in). They would not allow me back with my daughter, though myself and my daughter requested it. We gave the office a shot because it is much closer and my daughter needed a crown put back on, so we couldn't wait too long. After the work was finished, the assistant walked her out and told me to watch what she was eating because it could happen again, and that's why this happened- I assured her that wasn't why, because my daughter has a medical condition that causes her to throw up anytime she has the things listed, and because I was with her when it fell out, while reading bed time stories. Our home office told us last year when another came off, that because she is petite, the smallest crowns are still a little big for her so it would likely happen again and to be watchful for it. This assistant gave intense push back insisting my daughter was sneaking lollipops and candy which caused this, and that I wouldn't even know if she did. It was extremely discouraging, terribly disorganized, and it was NOT a welcoming environment. Three other moms in the lobby at the time made remarks along the same lines. I would NOT recommend using this office and would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your family's dental care.

Horrible! Growing up I was always terrified of the dentist. My parents brought me here after a recommendation. I wish they never did. I was scared and crying and the Doctor told me if I didn't stop he would send my mom out of the room and put me to sleep and clean my teeth that way. I would never take my own child here or recommend them to anyone!!!

Dr. Brown is awfully mean, unprofessional, careless, and quite simply mistreats his patients. My teeth became misaligned from wearing their retainers for years, and instead of helping re-adjust the retainer or kindly consoling me, he prevented me from sharing my concerns by aggressively cutting me off, talking over me, and dismissing me by walking out of the room while I was trying to talk with him. He doesn't care about his patients' needs. He did nothing to the retainer, even though my teeth are misaligned from using them. The retainer must have been worn down and bent out of the original conformation, but he didn't care to look twice. He's also the type of doctor to tell you to get immediate surgery to remove your wisdom teeth without caring to share a detailed explanation even when asked. My brother had to go to another dentist/orthodontist because of how he mistreated him and my father...and now I should do the same. Terrible doctor. I feel bad for his kind staff and the way he treats them too... I'm surprised he hasn't been taken to court.

Horrible experience after being referred here by Dr. Frederick's due to my childs fears and that my child needed to be sedated in order to perform any work. Front staff was friendly and efficient. The dentist himself was very aggresive with my child. I made it very clear prior to scheduling the appointment that my child is petrified and very unwilling to cooperate. The Dentist did not even try in the slightest way to make my child feel comfortable or calm. He aggressively demanded that she stop crying and open her mouth. He talked down to her and told her she is acting badly for her age. This is not the way to conduct any type of visit or procedure with a child, especially if they need extra attention. After the visit he told me there is no way to help her and that no dentist would take her. I feel this was the most unprofessional dentist I have ever encountered. DEFINITELY NOT child friendly!

My boys have been seen since they were 3 years old. We have never had a bad experience. My son is 19 and has never had a cavity. My younger is 16 with no cavities. My favorite part is they do orthodontic work as well. So we didn't have to see a new dentist for braces. The staff couldn't be more helpful. They always answer our questions and get us answers. My son broke his bracket once and Dr. Brown made time to see him the same day!

Extremely rude and impatient with children. My daughter had fillings previously and was fine. She came back for one more and he must've hit a nerve with the needle or something. Her cheek swole up and was red instantly. She kept saying her cheek hurt and was ignored. Then Dr. Brown put a bite block in and tried drilling her tooth and she started screaming. He yelled at her (a 7 year old) and told her if she kept it up he would make Mom (me, who hadn't interfered at all yet) leave the room. At that point, I stood up and grabbed her. I've had the experience myself where the injections didn't numb the tooth that was being worked on and my dentist just gave me more anesthesia. He decided to make her a sedation appointment and as he explained to me what the paperwork said (as if I can't read it myself) he yelled at her to stop crying so he can explain this to Mom. He and his assistant continued to insist that she couldn't feel anything...the same child that he's given fillings to before and she didn't behave this way. So clearly, it's not fear, it's pain! Now she's terrified of the dentist. Now 4 days later, her cheek is still swollen and she still has pain in her cheek to the point that she winces and pulls away when I brush her teeth on that side.

Found staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. Daughter enjoyed herself during the exam and cleaning. Nice waiting room with toys. Update, I didn't keep this dentist for more than a year. My daughter had her first cavity and was extremely anxious. The Dr threatened to have her held down while he drilled it, extremely rude and scary experience for my daughter. We also had to have the filling redone within a year. The Dr doesn't belong working with children.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The office and staff are rude. My son has been going to the dentist every 6 months since he was 2 he is now 6. Unfortunately our family dentist does not doing fillings or extensive dental work on young children so when my son developed more cavities that I would like to admit we decided to go to this office. Because I am a Travel Register Nurse on assignment a little over an hour away from home my husband had to take our son to his appointments. The first time going to that office they acted like my husband was an unfit parent because our 6 year old son had cavities. Now this is already horrifying and we feel like we dropped the ball and they feed on that. Ok we let it go because my son needed the work done. My husband takes my son to get his caps and fillings... Dr Brown never discusses what type of caps he is going to be using or whether or not there were options..this man put metal caps where you can visibly see when my son smiles. I am horrified and in fact enraged. I honestly know many children who develop quite a few cavities because they are CHILDREN and do not have metal caps where you can see them smile. Being a Registered Nurse I am quite confused as to why the options were never discussed with my husband. In any other procedure this must be discussed. Yes this is a baby teeth but you do not treat people like this. This is disgusting and if you do not want to practice anymore I suggest you retire.
