Malibu and San Francisco area Family and Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Bob Perkins, was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Glendale, California. He completed his undergraduate and dental training at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Dr. Perkins is also an alumnus of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). LVI is, perhaps, the pre-eminent post graduate dental institution in the country today. It offers advanced training in cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, TMD disorders, as well as many other disciplines of dentistry. It is the Julliard or The Sorbonne of dental institutions.
Bob started a dental practice in Malibu in 2008 after owning and operating a successful dental practice in Glendale for 17 years. Bob has completed over 1000 hours of dental continuing education, many of those hours have been devoted to orthodontics, orthopedics, orthotropics, and TMD (refer to our headings on the home page for more detailed information). Bob has shifted his practice in recent years to have a greater emphasis on a broader approach to facial esthetics, one that strives to create a balanced face, gorgeous teeth, proper airway, and a life free of facial and neck pain. He has devoted more than 20 years to the passionate pursuit of combining art, science, and technology with personalized care.

I keep my eye on the reviews of this dentist after spending a lot of money on him, received no help from chronic TMJ, filed down all my bottom veneers that are now exposed, and this was done in Phase 1! When I put up a poor review he contacted me, asked me why I put up a poor review and would I take it down. When I said no he offered half my money back. I took it down. have continued to watch his reviews and find he just happens to have all five stars. I have been to many TMJ professionals and he is not one. This is my third posting and I will continue to post until some realistic reviews are posted. A few other dentists have told me to stay away from him and they never refer to him. I am still paying to have teeth fixed that he ground down and some he ruined with his "magic" acrylic.

Dr Perkins has a special understanding of structure of face and jaw along with teeth. It makes all the difference . He's like an artist to me. I want to add he and his team are so kind and listen to everything you might want to share or ask. They take pride in what they do , and was a pleasure with the whole experience. Thank you

Dr. Perkins and his staff have always been very personable and professional. Dr. Perkins has helped me tremendously with my TMJ/Jaw issues, he uses the state of the art technology. His work is impeccable.

Came to Dr. Perkins with some needed, overdue dental work. Couple broken teeth in back. 30 yr old partial bridge in front. He's gone above and beyond with his time and follow-up. 1 renewed smile later (looking handsome as ever) my experience here has been positive and appreciated.

Dr Bob Perkins is an amazing person and he graciously shares his knowledge of his TMJ improvement process and the importance of having the jaw in the right place and in my case the teeth in the right place as well. I can tell just by the first interaction with him he is a patient to patient detailed provider who works uniquely with each patient. I'm excited to continue my journey of conquering TMJ and facial pain and issues with Dr. Perkins !

I recommend Dr Perkins all the time because he's the best dentist I've ever had. You can tell he cares and loves what he does. When I first saw his hygienist, I told her I had very sensitive teeth and she asked me to trust her and I did. She was gentle with her cleaning technique and has never hurt me. My husband and I schedule our appointments together and afterwards we take a nice walk on the beach and have lunch. I don't care where you live, they are worth the drive and taking a day off work if you need too. They are that good!

I am a very anxious nervous dental patient. From the moment I called to the moment I had dental work i felt comfortable and in a safe environment. I had two Extensive extractions and I never felt any pain. I would highly recommend Dr. Perkins to my friends and family.

I've been dealing with TMJ issues my entire life, having constant tightness in my jaw, neck pain, headaches, jaw clicking, and ear pressure. Last year I started treatment with a "famous" TMJ doctor that modified my lower bite by pushing it backward, which ended up worsening my symptoms. Before making any permanent changes to my teeth which would cost an insane amount of money with this previous doctor, I decided to look for a second opinion and that was when I find Dr. Perkins. I'm extremely glad I followed my gut and looked for another TMJ expert! Dr. Perkins is attentive, knowledgeable, and truly willing to help his patients. He was able to give me a proper diagnosis, he realized my jaw was too far back and needed to come forward. My treatment had 2 phases. Initially, he made a temporary change with a fixed orthotic (acrylic that is bonded to the lower back teeth in such a way that creates a new "bite" position). Phase two started after 1 month, and it was a permanent change on the teeth, but he emphasized he would only make this permanent modification once I was rid of my symptoms. One of the biggest differentiators for me was his holistic approach. Dr. Perkins understands the strong correlation between TMJ and BREATHING. He not only fixed my jaw but he also educated me about the importance of striving to become a nose breather in order to avoid TMJ and sleep apnea issues. I'm a chronic mouth breather due to my year-round allergies, and that caused my bite (and jaws) to be more retruded over the years. Dr. Perkins also gave me a sleep appliance that helps me sleep without overworking my jaw muscles and clenching/grinding my teeth during the night. We also discussed other ways to open the upper airway such as using mouth strips and nose strips when I sleep, Flonase nasal spray, air purifiers and he recommended other professionals to assist with the airway issues. Treatment is not cheap, but it's worth it. I sleep much better which ends up giving me more energy during the day, my jaw is balanced, and my symptoms have been alleviated thanks to Dr. Perkins!
