TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.

During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.

In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.

Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.

Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

I do not recommend root canal by Dr. Lewis. Between too much Novocain which gave me severe heart palpitations and three visits for the same tooth; and the fact that he should've referred me to a specialist since after all that he put me through, I now need to have another surgery to correct his work, I feel that I was taken advantage of. He does have good bedside manners. But quite frankly he lines up the root canal patients. And tries to go in between patients in a three hour time frame. As the result the patient ends up getting more and more Novocain. Then he runs out of time; and reschedules the patient for another day. This is how I was scheduled three times for a root canal on the same tooth. I paid a hefty amount of money. And now have to have surgery by a specialist to correct his work.

I had a dental emergency. I lost my front tooth. I explained to the doctor that I had a neuro disease involving my nerve endings. He pulled my tooth and that was all I wanted him to do, but he pressured me to do additional work saying it I shouldn't wait even though he said he was familiar with RSD. Through pressure and fear I allowed him to do additional procedures. It was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. It caused my mouth nerve endings to be in so much pain I couldn't stand it. I spoke with another dentist who said I should only have had the tooth pulled and waited until my mouth nerve endings were healed. I believe he just used pure greed to make more money. Even now eight days later I can barely drink even water without extreme pain. It also costs me a lot more money than other practices would charge. I am not saying this out of revenge I forgive him but I wouldn't want anyone else, even a dog, to go through what I have been through as a result of pressure and fear mongering. If you are pressured to do additional procedures and you aren't sure just say no!

I would like to share my experience with Coast Dental, Dr.Ben Lewis and the Staff ! Dr.Ben Lewis and his staff is just wonderful people. I find this office to be very personable, pleasant, clean. They do great work ! Prices are reasonable too. It's hard enough, for some people to go to a dentist. I'm so glad I found a dentist and his staff where I can be quite comfortable and trust his work ! Thank-you for reading, Very Happy Patient !

I would never recommend this office to anyone. They are unorganized and rude. I have never had to try so hard to pay my bill. I called their office multiple times and no one ever called me back. I finally got a hold of someone and got them to correct their billing error and when it was all reprocessed I requested printed records before I paid my final balance to make sure it matched my insurance companies. They then proceeded to tell me that they never made an error, funny though that my bill now had a difference of $200 without me making payments. Also that they would not send me my records and then sent my account to collections. I do not avoid paying my bills or even pay them late and for them to do that and try to damage my credit out of spite due to their own negligence was over and beyond inappropriate.
