Our history is rich, beginning in 1952 when Dr. Bays (Dr. Becky Carlon's father and Dr. Christen Carlon's grandfather) opened his doors as a dentist in Albany. By the summer of 1979, Dr. Becky Carlon joined her father in his well-established practice to continue the tradition of providing state-of-the-art careand conservative treatment plans that garnishedan impeccable reputation for the practice. In the summer of 2015, the newest addition to Carlon Dentistry arrived: Dr. Christen Carlon (Dr. Becky's daughter). Settled in the picturesque and historic avenues of Albany with deep roots in the community, Carlon Dentistry continues its 60+ year history of trustworthy and honest care.
Dr. Becky Carlon, known by most of her patients as Dr. Becky, is an Albany native. She attended Deerfield High School and Emory College. She graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1976, being the only female in her class of 106. She was then appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery of Vanderbilt University Medical School, serving as the medical centers hospital dentist for 3 years.She had the experience of treating medically compromised patients in a hospital setting with different complications. In 1979, she joined her father, Dr William K. Bays, in private practice here in Albany. In addition to treating patients in the practice, Dr. Becky has served as the supervising dentist in the dental hygiene program, and taught clinical students at the dental school in Augusta as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry.
Also an Albany native, Christen spent her childhood dancing and cheering on the Knights at Deerfield Windsor. After early acceptance, she attended Emory University, becoming an active leader on campus through her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. At Emory, she took many graduate level biology courses, inaddition to studying abroad in Australia. Following graduation in May 2011, she immediately movedto Augusta to begin dental school at The Dental College of Georgia (formerly Medical College of Georgia). There, again, her outstanding skill and leadership were apparent.Not only did she complete an honors curriculum in the specialized field of endodontics, but she also completed esthetic cases side by side with Dr. Chiche, a world renowned esthetic prosthodontist and chairman of the Department of Esthetics at the Dental College of Georgia. Dr. Chiche selected one of her cases to present on his world wide lecture circuit. In addition, she mentored younger dental students and volunteered at the Augusts VA hospital, taking care of veterans' oral health.
Since 1952, we have seen dental trends come and go. Our rich history allows us to be able to discern the facts from the fads. We have the knowledge, education and experience to provide world-class results with only the best treatments and state-of-the-art care.
Dr. Becky earned her fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2000, in recognition of 500 hours of rigorous continuing education and examination. She also has completed the necessary education and has been approved by the Georgia Board of Dentistry to administer injectables, including Botox and fillers.
Dr. Becky served on the Georgia Board of Dentistry from 2004 to 2014. The Board consists of 9 dentists appointed by the governor, and issues and oversees the licenses of all the dentists and dental hygienists in Georgia. The goal of the board is to maintain high ethical and clinical standards in the profession of dentistry in the state, thereby providing protection for the citizens of Georgia. She served on the board for 10 years, and was President of the board from 2010 to 2011. She continues to serve as an examiner for dentists seeking Georgia licensure.
Dr. Becky brings an extensive background of education and achievements to the practice of dentistry. She considers it an honor and a privilege to give every patient the very best care, and finds joy and satisfaction in getting to know her patients as individuals and as friends.
Upon receiving her degree, Dr. Carlon knew there was only one place she wanted to be: back in her hometown practicing side by side with her greatest mentor, her mother. In private practice, Dr. Carlon has expanded her knowledge and training in esthetic dentistry specializing in minimal preparation veneers where the health of the patient's teeth is a priority while ensuring outstanding results. Dr. Carlon knows the aim of any esthetic procedure is to mimic a natural and youthful beauty.
During her time in Albany, she has been inducted into several prestigious societies such as the Women of Distinction: Honors Edition and has been a recurring member of Americas Top Dentists. Additionally, Dr. Carlon is an active participant inlocal, state and national organized dentistry holding memberships in the Georgia Dental Association, American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. Continuing education has always been a high priority for Dr. Carlon; in addition to numerous other classes, she has completed challenging courses presented y the American Institute of Oral Biology in order to bring the latest scientific data to her patients providing them with evidence based dentistry.
Dr. Carlon has a passion for dentistry and has always striven to provide the most advanced technology available to ensure her patient's treatment is comfortable and even enjoyable. Outside of the office, Christen is an avid runner and loves escaping for the weekend down to the beach.
