Dr.AustinStarr was born and raised in Logansport, IN where he has fond childhood memories. He was brought up with a multitude of interests including a passion for excellence, overcoming adversity and always having fun. In 2004 he came to Bloomington, IN where his life would be changed forever. Starr walked on to the Indiana University Football team as a placekicker and had the great fortune of developing alongside the best coaches and teammates in the country.
He graduated with Highest Distinction in 2008 and earned many accolades on and off the field during his college career. Starr proudly credits Indiana Universitys athletic personnel and academic departments with providing incomparable support and instilling the strong qualities and characteristics he emulates today.
After training for the NFL in 2009 he continued his journey to the IU School of Dentistry where his personality and passion for excellence motivated him to graduate in the top ten of his class with High Honors in 2014. Dr. Starrs desire to positively impact patients on a profound level while collaborating with medical and dental professionals lead to his pursuit of additional training past dental school.
He stayed in the Big Tentocomplete his 4-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at The Ohio State University in 2018. During this time Dr.Starrwent through rigorous training to gain specialized experience and expertise to treat a wide range of oral and facial anomalies. He has the most up-to-date surgical skill and knowledge to provide you with the highest quality of care and improve your quality of life.
The charm of Bloomington and his first-class experience at IU drew him back to serve the community who gave so much love and support. Dr.Starrand his family areexcitedto be back in Bloomington and serve in a community they will forever call home!

I visited Dr. Starr today to have a couple of teeth pulled. I am terrified of dentists because of past experiences but I was pleasantly surprised. Dr. Starr was awesome and put me at ease. He was so patient and understanding. His staff were all friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back to him if I ever need any further procedures. He even called me at home this evening to make sure I was doing okay. Much appreciated

About 13 days ago I woke up with an intense pain in my jaw. It was a Friday and I waited it out for the whole weekend waiting on my regular dentist to open. On Monday morning, my dentist said they could not see me (for almost 2 weeks) and to go to the ER. I did this, in the absolute most excruciating pain I've ever felt. They did little but gave me some pain medication that would last only 3 days...not nearly long enough to get into my regular dentist's office. Later that day I called Dr. Starr's office with little hope as it seemed no one wanted or was able to help me. To my surprise, they were able to get me in within 2 days. They took my pain seriously and were very kind throughout the entire process. Not only did they see me, but they completed a wisdom tooth extraction for me on the SAME DAY! After what seemed like a never ending and tortuous pain for days on end, I left their office feeling an immense amount of relief. The next day, Dr. Starr called me to check in and ensure that I was healing well. During the procedure they sedated me so any fear or anxiety I had about the emergency surgery was instantly alleviated. When I woke up, they gave me very clear instructions on how to help myself heal over the next couple of weeks. Today is 1 week since the surgery and I am feeling almost 100%! I would absolutely recommend Dr. Starr's office to anyone who might be in dental pain and not sure where to turn. Even if you have anxiety (like me) about visiting a dentist, this office went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, and to help me. I will definitely be visiting Dr. Starr in the future!

Dr. Starr has established a great practice and has been able to offer very prompt and quality service for my needed surgeries. While I hope to be done with my oral surgery needs, I have 3 kids that will likely need wisdom teeth removed in the coming years.

5-24-22 - UPDATED Dr. Starr contacted me personally after my review and after several conversations I feel as though the issue has been resolved. I would give this place negative stars if it was available. If you go to Dr. Starr's office expect to pay twice what other local offices are charging, disrespect when you question their billing practices, and a doctor that will call your other medical provider to complain about your billing inquiry. When I asked for a detailed billing statement I was told that they already provided that information to me and they would not provide another copy. I have never been treated so poorly by a medical staff in my life

A routine x-ray at my dentist showed a growth within the roof of my mouth, which required a consultation with an oral surgeon. My insane, overly anxious brain immediately started fearing cancer. I made the trip to see Dr. Starr and am very glad that I did. They were able to capture a more detailed image of the issue, and Dr. Starr helped alleviate my anxiety by his explaining that it was most likely a cyst or a benign tumor. He explained that since it was growing near my sinus cavity, it should be removed and biopsied, and went over the procedure in detail, further assuaging my anxiety. Dr. Starr exuded confidence in his abilities, which is definitely what I want from a doctor who is going to cut into the roof of my mouth. Since I have a totally unfounded, illogical fear of general anesthesia, Dr. Starr agreed to let me go with local numbing, which worked very well. He made incredibly quick work of the cyst removal, making sure I was comfortable and explaining what he was doing along the way. Aside from the expected and normal discomfort from the shots, the procedure was pain free. My recovery time was also much quicker than anticipated. I only experienced mild discomfort, which was easily managed with Ibuprofen. Aside from Dr. Starr's skill as a surgeon, I am equally impressed and thankful for his great communication and investment in his patient's well-being. He made a point to call with my good biopsy results after hours on a Friday night. Again, even though Dr. Starr made me confident at the time of my surgery that the growth removed was most likely benign, I greatly appreciated his letting me know the definitive results when he did.

Just had 9 teeth pulled. Him and his staff couldn't have made me anymore at ease. I have over 23 years of military dentist and it has left me with high Anxiety. I can tell you he really cares about you and followed up that evening with me, to answer any questions I might of had. Best dentist I have been to in my 55 years

I haven't been to a dentist in over 10 years after a traumatic experience and I finally couldn't handle any more pain so I wanted dentures so I didn't have to go through the pain anymore. My insurance wouldn't pull all of my teeth but they did approve most of them. When I was referred to Dr. Starr I was shaking, sweating, and freaking out like ok here we go again. I was so wrong he took his time to talk to me about everything and through the process. I have never felt more comfortable. I told him I wanted to be asleep, I didn't want to feel any pain, and I didn't want to know what was happening! He went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and I didn't really wake up til I got to my husbands car. I slept most of the way home. Ice has been my best friend and I am so thankful that I was referred to an amazing oral surgeon who actually listened and did what I asked without the judgment from other dentists who wonder why you had such bad teeth and want to know why you didn't go to a dentist sooner! By far my best experience and would recommend anyone who truly wants a great experience or who has terrible anxiety Dr.Starr is for you!

Dr. Starr and his entire team made me feel at such ease and so comfortable! I had to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth out and from the second I had my consultation everyone was so friendly and very thorough explaining what was going to be done. Dr. Starr treats you like a friend and is very welcoming (and funny!) I thought it was especially cool that they can put plasma in extraction sites that speeds up the healing process. I had never heard of that before!! I felt back to normal within 3 days. Dr. Starr also called me in the evening after my appointment just to see how I was feeling. I thought that was SO kind. I could not recommend Dr. Starr and his entire staff enough. I am so glad I decided to use him.

It felt like everything that could go wrong went wrong it started when my car broke down and I live far away. When I called the office the kindest voice answered she reassured me they understood and they would just see me when I made it that was so relieving when I got to meet Dr. Starr he didn't treat me like a mouth dull of issues or like fool who was just too dumb to brush. Dr starr treated me like a man who had a issue that the two of us were going to fix. He was amazing and concerned and for once I didn't feel.like my situation was hopeless I could go on and on about his professionalism and his resolve but his assistant. Well she was the real STAR. It was as if an old friend was in the office she really took care of me and made me feel better and for thar and how I feel now I can never repay her for her help

No one, and I mean no one comes to this place without having a need. In my particular situation, I was in substantial amount of pain and had to have a tooth removed. I don't have insurance and the rate was significantly less than I expected but would have paid more.. it occurred over a holiday weekend, follow up call was late in the evening by Dr. Starr, overall great experience. In for my 3rd time visit today and I wouldn't be going anywhere else. As a reader of this review, you may wonder why 3 visits? It's because I had to save up some money to have necessary work done. Delightful service and great staff. My wife also had her wisdom teeth removed here for a reasonable cost without insurance. Hopefully no more visits after today but if I ever do, I'll be back!

Too freakin' bad I can only rate 5 stars, because Dr. Starr deserves 1 million! I have severe anxiety, Asperger's, sensory processing disorder, OCD, the list goes on. So you can imagine how terrified I was. After I was done, I couldn't even believe I was scared to begin with! Dr. Starr took wonderful care of me, made me giggle and smile right before I went under, and did an absolutely PHENOMENAL job extracting my teeth. He was even sweet enough to call me and ask me how I was doing hours after my surgery. My experience at this establishment literally couldn't have been any better. At all. If you have anxiety and similar issues like me, this is the go-to oral surgeon. Even if you don't, I would still recommend this place. Dr. Starr is THE BEST oral surgeon in Bloomington, and he will be the ONLY surgeon I will ever recommend to anyone ever again. Today I crawled outta my shell and did something I thought I'd never have the guts to do. I put all of my trust into this team and it was the best decision I have ever made, because now soon I will be able to love my smile even more. Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart and every last fiber of my being... Thank you. Seriously... Thank you. Dr. Starr, 10/10, would go again and would recommend to anyone in the whole world.

I had two teeth that were in horrible condition I was sent to see Dr. Austin Starr I was nervous but he very fast put that to ease and lightened the mode by telling a joke I felt no pain and still today feel little to no pain my visit to his office was EXCELLENT he made sure I was comfortable before he started I would recommend him to anyone!! Dr. Starr and his staff are absolutely amazing; made me feel right at home. I have always had an irrational fear of the dentist until I met this man. He was very professional and thorough about what was going to happen at my appointment, and he made sure to explain anything I didn't have prior knowledge on. They went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and relaxed; Even asked if I would like a blanket, or if I would like the music changed/turned up. I had 4 teeth removed; 2 molars and 2 wisdom. I only have pain in one tooth which was the wisdom tooth that was sideways in my gums. My pain after 6 hours is about a 2/10. I would definitely go back again if needed, and I will be recommending him to my friends and family. Once I got home, he took time out of his day to call me and see how I was doing(very appreciative). I LOVE YOU DR. STARR. Thank you and your assistant today for being so kind.

They are the Greatest bunch of people you would ever want to meet. The staff treated me like they had known me for years. I didn't have any pain or bruising. My surgery was a week ago Tuesday. I came home and felt fine,. That evening Dr. Starr called to see how I was doing he talked to me at least 20 minutes. I wish that they done other dentistry work besides surgeries,but I am happy they were there for me. Their the Best .THANK YOU Dr. STARR & STAFF

Dr. Starr was very personable and explained the whole process very well. He called up several hours after the operation to see how everything was going and answer any questions.
