Periodonticsand Implant DentistryTo become a Periodontist, one must begin by attaining a bachelors degree before entering dental school, which typically requires 4 years of college. Once they graduate, they must pass a Dental Admissions Test.Most dental school programs consist of 4 years in the classroom and laboratory, with the last two involving actual treatment of patients in clinics. Once this is completed and a dental degree attained, a graduate program in periodontics follows. In addition to a dental degree, entrants must first pass the National Board Exam.

Dr. Anthony R. Pecora, D.D.S., M.S.Dr. Pecora has been practicing Periodontics in Bloomington-Normal for over 16 years. Prior to moving to Bloomington, he practiced General Dentistry for 10 years in the Chicago suburb of Oakbrook Terrace. As an undergrad Dr. Pecora studied at Loyola University where he received his Bachelors of Science. Upon graduation he went on to study and student teach at Loyola Dental School were he also received a certificate of outstanding performance in the field of Microbiology. After gradating and practicing General Dentistry for some time, he decided a specialty in Periodontics was his true passion.

For his specialty he went on to study at Northwestern Dental School, where he also worked as an Assistant Professor following graduating. Dr. Pecora decided to set up his Periodontal practice in Bloomington-Normal, but his education didn't end there; He has since received a certificate from the Misch International Implant Institute, along with being a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology.
