All of this is possible due to Charles H. Henderson, a prominent Troy banker, businessman and former Alabama governor who died in 1937. He provided that his estate be placed in trust and the interest from investments used to finance education facilities as well as the children's health center, opened in 1979, that now bears his name. He stipulated that facilities, personnel and services should meet the highest standards so that every child within the service area of the Child Health Center would have a better chance at a healthy, happy life.

His strong commitment to excellence underlies the programs and services of the Charles Henderson Child Health Center. The mission of the Charles Henderson Child Health Center is to provide care to children from birth to age 19, regardless of ability to pay.
