Dr. Alvin Jenkins is an Ashe county native. If you ask him he will tell you he is a country dentist and he enjoys being just that. Since graduating from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Dentistry and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1976, he has continuously practiced right here in his hometown of West Jefferson. He set a goal to build an exceptional facility to allow himself and staff to provide a very high quality of dental services to the people of Ashe County and our region, and he will tell you that he will tell you that he is blessed by having accomplished that goal and having a dedicated, caring group of coworkers with whom to enjoy it.
Dr. Jenkins has always enjoyed building his practice with cutting-edge advances in the profession and has devoted hundreds of hours into continuing education courses. He enjoys very much participating in continuing education, from SHATKIN F.I.R.S.T. mini implant course to sedation dentistry, and sharing ideas with other dentists from the United States.
Dr. Jenkins was the first dentist to adopt the CEREC CAD/CAM technology in Ashe County in the 1990s when there were only 500 Siemens CEREC systems in the United States. He also removed mercury, amalgam fillings from the practice over 15 years ago. He was one of the first dentists to recognize technological trends that have been and continues to change dentistry for the better.
Additionally, Dr. Jenkins was the first dentist in our area to incorporate lasers into the practice and continues to use laser dentistry and the latest 3D scanning technology from 3M Corporation. He is working to eliminate gooey impression material totally.
Through his direction, Mountain Town Dental continues to seek out the most effective and beneficial products, techniques, and materials to better serve our clients in protecting their dental and general health, all of which are designed to be effective and keep patients costs down.
Dr. Jenkins is especially proud of his staff. They are well trained, very professional, highly experienced, and very caring. He believes that they make our practice special. He is very excited about the future of dentistry and takes pride in being in the profession.
Dr. Jenkins is a member of the Smethport United Methodist Church and has served in a variety of roles in the church including teaching Sunday school, Pastor Parrish Relations, Parsonage Committee, and trustee. It is the same church in which he wed his wife, Carolyn, in 1971. Dr. Jenkins daughter, Emily, is also a dentist and practices at Mountain Town Dental alongside him.
When Dr. Jenkins is not working he loves to be fishing and has even built two beautiful wooden Mackenzie River Drift boats. He particularly loves fly fishing and was told by one of his close friends, you sure can cast pretty not to catch many fish. He says he cant argue with the statement. To him, it is about being outdoors and enjoying Gods creations; a fish is just a bonus.

Dr. Peyton Absher is a native of Ashe County. She attended North Carolina State University and graduated as Valedictorian with an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences in 2016. She then attended East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine where she graduated with honors with her Doctorate of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Absher is an active member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. She is Invisalign certified and has clinical experience including oral surgery, partial and complete dentures, crowns, and fillings. She has also received training in pediatric dentistry and is passionate about treating children of all ages.
In her free time, she enjoys time with her husband, Ryan and their dog, Remi. She loves spending time outdoors and kayaking the New River. Dr. Absher is dedicated to providing exceptional care and values forming lifelong relationships with her patients.
Cierra is one of the first faces you will see when you walk into our office. She has been working with us as our financial coordinator since October 2020. She discusses financial options with patients, files insurance, and helps with scheduling.
Raven graduated from Ashe County High School in 2008. She has been a dental assistant for over 8 years and has had her phlebotomy certification since 2014. As lead assistant and treatment plan coordinator, she gives our patients a clear view of needed and desired treatment. She enjoys caring for patients and helping them make their dream smile a reality!
In her spare time, Raven enjoys helping motivate others in their fitness journey and playing with her two daughters. She is also the vice president of the Ashe County Beekeepers Association, and she enjoys gardening.
Cindy started dental assisting in 1979. She joined our team in 2012. She assists our dentists during procedures, maintains sterilization, and ensures materials are stocked and ordered. Cindy has a special appreciation for the advanced technology used in our office. She enjoys being able to use her phlebotomy certification, obtained 5 years ago, by assisting in placement of L-PRF grafting.
Cindy loves being outside, whether shes working in the garden, hiking, or drinking coffee on the porch with friends and family. She enjoys going to church, singing, and being involved in charitable events.
She has been married to her husband, Lanny for 48 years. They are blessed with two children; Charity and Lance, four grandsons; Dakin, Kai, Imri, and Cohen and a granddaughter, Ella.In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, working inthe yard, reading, traveling, and relaxing at the beach.
Erin began working at Mountain Town Dental in 2013 after graduating from Wilkes Community College with her certificate in dental assisting. Erin assists the doctors with patient care and makes sure treatment rooms are sterilized, stocked, and ready to go. She loves helping patients!
Sommer graduated from Wilkes Community College in 2017 with her certification in dental assisting. Shortly after graduation, she started working at Mountain Town Dental. Sommer assists Dr. Stopper in treating patient with Obstructive Sleep Apnea using dental devices.
Staci joined our team in July 2020 after completing the Accelerated Dental Assisting Academy. Patient experience is her priority, and she works hard to ensure they feel at ease during procedures. Staci finds satisfaction in helping patients realize their dream of a beautiful, healthy smile and renewed sense of confidence. She also loves assisting with our pediatric patients.
Kinsey is our newest dental assistant. She joined our practice in May 2021. Kinsey has wanted to work in dentistry since she was a little girl. She graduated from the Accelerated Dental Assisting Academy in March 2021 as a dental assistant.
Theresa enjoys meeting new people and helping them attain good dental health. She is a detail-oriented and compassionate dental hygienist who has over 30 years of experience providing gentle yet thorough care.Theresa takes great pride in her work making peoples smiles healthier and brighter!
Theresa is married with two children, Mabry and Bennett. The family raises horses and goats, and has several dogs and outdoor cats. Theresa enjoys carriage driving her horses, watching her children play soccer, and being active in Veterans Service Groups.
Kelsey graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College with an Associates degree in Dental Hygiene in 2008. She has been with Mountain Town Dental ever since! Kelsey is committed to ensuring that each patient is comfortable and offers the highest level of care. She enjoys using the newest procedures and technology to help patients achieve happy, healthy smiles.
Marie is a graduate of Forsyth Technical Community College. She earned her associates degree in Dental Hygiene in 2011. Marie strives to provide optimal dental care for each of her patients, so they may achieve a lifetime of dental health.
Micala graduated first in her class from East Tennessee State University in 2017, with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. She loves making her patients feel at ease and involved with their dental care.
