As an orthodontist, I have the opportunity to make a lasting, wonderful change in the life of each patient I treat. I love watching every person transform, from visit to visit, as their teeth gently move into a healthier, more attractive position.

Every patient, regardless of their age, gains confidence during treatment; as their self-esteem grows they begin to share more and more of their personality. Watching a person go from feeling uncomfortable with their teeth and hiding their smile to someone who feels good about themselves, who smiles widely and unselfconsciously, is an incredible experience. I am fortunate as I see that happen every day!

Ive been practicing for over 20 years and can honestly say I love what I do. I value the relationships that grow with patients and am happy to be part of their lives during this exciting time. Its fulfilling to know the smiles that we accomplish, by working together, will be carried forth and shared for years to come!

As an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association, I have access to a wide range of post-graduate education. Each year I complete many continuing education courses and attend meetings, lectures, and seminars. I also avidly read orthodontic and dental journals and other publications.

After growing up in Long Island, Ive lived in Orchard Park for the last 20 years since finishing my orthodontic training. My husband Scott, a physician, grew up in Orchard Park and were raising our two sons, Joshua and Ryan, here. Jack, our dog, rounds out our family.

Outside the office, Im usually found spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy playing tennis and golf, and I love to read. Helping others is important to me, so I volunteer with Hospice, as well.

Ive worked in the field since 1972, as a dental and orthodontic assistant, as well as the front desk, and this is the most wonderful office Ive been in. Dr. Zuccala is considerate and professional and the team is thoughtful, caring, and loves creating smiles! I coordinate our schedule, handle the phones, schedule recalls and missed visits, and arrange payment plans.

Outside the practice, I enjoy reading, crossword puzzles, painting, archery, and camping. Most important, though, is time with my two children, five grandchildren, one great-grandson, and my wonderful husband.

Patient sucked her thumb as a young child. She started treatment at age 13. She had braces and a special appliance called a crib to retrain the tongue, for 28 months. Now she can bite the lettuce out of a sandwich.

This adult patient, age 25, required braces and jaw surgery to correct his severe overbite, with treatment taking two years. His problem could have been corrected without surgery if he had been treated before he was a teenager.

This patient 's lateral incisors were congenitally missing. She had braces for 20 months to move the teeth into their correct positions, then the missing teeth were replaced with bonded 'Maryland' bridges.

Patient's underbite was causing her jaw joint discomfort and excessive wear patterns on her teeth. After about 30 months of treatment starting at age 32, she now finds smiling and chewing much easier.

At age ten, patient had a big overjet with the top teeth protruding beyond the bottom. She had two phases of treatment. The first helped her jaws to grow more harmoniously and the second aligned her teeth and bite. At age 13, she was proudly displaying her new smile.

Sometimes braces are not needed to get noticeable improvements in tooth alignment. This patient was first seen at age seven for crowding of the lower permanent teeth. A procedure was performed to reduce the width of the adjacent baby teeth and the permanent incisors aligned on their own in nine months.

Patient's parents were concerned about both aesthetics and the health of the erupting permanent teeth when they brought him to the orthodontist at age eight. The lower front teeth were crowded and touching the palate, and the upper front teeth were extremely displaced from their normal positions. After 12 months of Phase-One treatment with an expander and partial braces, patient's appearance and dental function were vastly improved.
